I am not the typical lap band patient. My body mass index was 34.5 at the beginning of this process however I do have other health concerns that necessitated losing weight. The most common reaction of people who I tell about the surgery is "You don't need that!" I think we all need to be more accepting of others weight issues. I have struggled for more than 15 years to keep my weight as low as I have with diets and medications. If I eat the way my body tells me to I can gain 10-15 lbs a month with no problem. The main reason I elected to have surgery is because I am tired of being hungry.
