What foods can't you eat?
MizKelly replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hamburger gives me issues. In the beginning eggs didn't like me but I can eat them now. Dry meat is a no no, has to be moist or I don't eat it. As much as I love bread it doesn't love me back.... -

Did you tell anyone you were having surgery?
MizKelly replied to losethemess's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Who did you guys tell? I have told everyone close to me (family & friends) and they have given me nothing but support!! I love when I reach mini goals because I send out a text letting them know and I get such positive responses back and it's a great feeling knowing they are behind me 100% and are proud of me. What are you regrets about not telling? I haven't kept this from anyone..I did think about keeping it from my mom and then surprising her the next time I went home to visit her but I just couldn't keep it from her, I wanted to be able to share each goal I had set for myself with her. What are your regrets about telling? I have none... What's the purpose of telling? The support. It's been wonderful!! Should I wait for results then tell? That is a personal choice. I love the fact that I am able to share the little results with everyone. Are you able to eat in front of people without having to explain your eating habits? What do you say to explain them? Yes and if they ask I tell them...I have nothing to hide.....I am proud of what I did!! -
Is constipation a problem for anyone else?
MizKelly replied to ningha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would talk with your doctor and see what he suggest taking. My doctor had me adding a TBS (a day) of benefiber to my liquids and that really helped with the constipation and still does when my body is low in Fiber. HTH -

When can you eat regular food after fill?
MizKelly replied to Itsforlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no restrictions with my fills but if your doctor does then I would follow what he says to do. -
How important are the rules really?

I give - ending six week post-op diet four days early...
MizKelly replied to Katy517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think that is true at all....My doctor has a very large staff and they are all there 24/7 if you need them. I find that statement very hard to believe. -
I give - ending six week post-op diet four days early...
MizKelly replied to Katy517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say don't do it! You have come this far what is a few more days? There are reasons your doctor has you doing this. I know it's hard...Believe me, I've been in your shoes..... I did 100% Clear Liquids 4 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op and I followed my doctors orders to a T! When I decided to get banded I decided I was going to do this the right way and follow all the rules and guidelines my doctor/dietitian had for me. Yes, it was hard and I got sick of everything but looking back now it was so worth it. If you just can't do it then I would call your doctor and ask. A few more days isn't going to kill you. Good Luck -

My pre-op diet was 4 weeks long (and 2weeks post-op) so I knew I had to find a variety of Protein drinks so I wouldn't get burned out on just one or two different ones to get through the whole 6 weeks. These are the ones I found that I liked.. RDT51~ Vanilla was the best and had 51gr of protein Oh Yeah!~ strawberry and Vanilla were yummy and 32gr of protein Pure Protein ~ Cookies and Cream & Banana and Cream, mmm and have 35gr of protein Carnation Instant Breakfast has a pre-made sugar-free drink in chocolate As far as powder goes I LOVE the EAS 100% Whey protein powder in either Vanilla or Chocolate. I make a lot of fruit smoothies with the vanilla. Also I use flavored egg white powder by Jay Robb. It's high in protein and you can use it to make a Protein Drink and it comes in strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Yummo!! HTH!!

What foods can you not tolerate w/band?
MizKelly replied to leroyspuds's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hamburger does not like me! Breads, pastas, rice...anything that can swell in your pouch I really try to stay away from or I take one tiny bite and that's it. I love potatoes, so far the instant mashed potatoes work the best for me. You can get them in a variety box and they make 1/2 cup servings and I usually can eat about 1/3 of a cup very slowly. One tip my dietitian gave me was any time you eat meat make sure you have some kind of "sauce" (bbq, ketchup, mayo, etc..) for it because that helps it go down easier. eggs are another food that get stuck. Sometimes if I stand while I eat I have better luck with food going down rather than sitting. If I've been having issues... -
HELP ME! I'm on my pre op diet and making bad choices.
MizKelly replied to Quinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you serious??? Yes I do think you are doing THAT bad! There are reasons our doctors do pre-op diets. If your doctor wanted you to eat a salad every night then he would have told you to do so. If you can't even stick to a pre-op diet how in the heck are you going to stick to a life time of changes? Maybe you aren't ready be get banded? Doesn't seem like you are ready to make life changes just yet. This band is not going to do all the work for you it's just a tool to HELP you. You either need to get serious NOW or reschedule your surgery for when you are really ready to make changes. -

No BM for 13 days
MizKelly replied to reginemichel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through the same thing and it's because you aren't getting enough fiber. My doctor has me adding Benefiber to my drinks or food. I usually add 1 Tbs to my morning coffee everyday and that really seems to help. My doctor also recommended Milk of Magnesia (but just a little). I haven't had to use it yet but just keep it on had. -
I love my mother-in-law, but...
MizKelly replied to adagray's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could have your husband talk to her and he can let her know this is something you don't want to talk about every time you see or talk to her and YOU will bring it up when YOU feel like sharing something. -
Loving my carrots! 9 1/2 weeks post-op 50 lbs gone!

Dr. suddenly quits practice, did not notify me!
MizKelly replied to fhce13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I am surprised that nobody called to let you know. However there could be numerous reasons why your doctor left the practice that could be personal, legal, contract issues, etc...I would have let the receptionist know how upset you were because they are the ones that usually call to remind patients of their appointments and sounds like they failed to do their jobs. Since they gave you the number of the hospital that your doctor is associated with now, sounds like there must have been some problems with the practice he was with. My BIL was a doctor (until he died suddenly last fall) so I understand the "behind the scenes" of what doctors go through. I hope you get things worked out... -
I've been taking Topamax (100 mg at bed time) for a couple of years now for my migraines. This medication has been the best thing for me. Side effects don't last very long and you have to be faithful about taking it. It does take a week or so to get into your system. I had to start with 25 mg and work my way up to 100 mg.

wierd stomach sounds?
MizKelly replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL! I have that all the time and I like to say that I have a thunder storm going on in there. A lot of it is air. I asked my dietitian/nutritionist about it and she said I would experience it for a while. My hubby likes to rate my burbs!! -
pure protein cans?
MizKelly replied to mominkansas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really liked the pure protein. I had to do a total of 6 weeks liquids (4 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op). I had to find a variety of protein drinks so I wouldn't get burned out on them and pure protein was one I really liked but I couldn't drink it out of the can, had to drink all my shakes in a glass. Atkins was one I could NOT drink..Yuck! RDT51 was another good one to drink...It had 51 grams of protein and the vanilla was yummy! -
Isn't when and how much of your fills up to your doctor?? I can't believe your doctor hasn't had you schedule your appointment for your first fill. Yes, I know every doctor is different but that just seems really strange to me and I would never tell my doctor to just give me a little fill. I would talk with him about how things were going with what restriction I was or wasn't having and he would make the decision as to what my fill should be. After all they knows what's best, that's why we chose them. I had my first fill of 2cc's at my 2 week post-op appointment. Claricey, did you have a post-op appointment? What did your doctor say about when he would do a fill??

I'm not a big CL fan but I love the diet Snapple fruit punch! I really miss my sweet tea so I've been making my own with Splenda. I've also gotten a little burned out on all the SF Kool-Aids.

I found a valid use for soda pop...for me!
MizKelly replied to sistasassy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had a few "stuck" episodes, one that ended in the return of what I was eating and the others I was able to walk off (in a few minutes) with some pretty good burps a trucker would be jealous of. Since I don't drink with my meals I didn't have anything around me. Maybe next time I will take a swig of my husbands Coke if he's around and see if that helps the situation.
