What my Dr. trying to hide?
chickadee81 replied to shelley1057's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never used the protein shots, but heard from quite a few bandsters that they are too sweet and they mix them with water to dilute them some. I may be wrong on this, but I believe the Large Allergan band is 14cc's. And as for the gradual fill of your band, I think that all dr's do that. I'm not sure of the exact reason though, but what I do know is I am happy that my dr does it that way because I know that after each fill I have had it was like learning what to eat all over again. I don't think my body would have tolerated 1 huge fill and I can think of a few people that can only handle like 0.1 or 0.2 cc's at a time. Everybody is different though :grouphug:. Hope at least some of this helps you! -

The Archer Farms cinnamon cereal isn't bad...I just can't eat in the AM anymore so it's always protein shake for me :grouphug: -

I have to be a cheerleader for Bob---after all I did call him Brian once after someone else did. It's the least I can do lol. -
Happy Bandiversary!!! You have done awesome and are very inspirational. And Bob-very cool cake

Your body may be thinking you are "starving" and go into starvation mode. When that happens it holds on to every last bit of fat and calories that it can. Just like the prev poster said, once you are eating more and exercising you will lose more. I was so worried about this too at first. I did lose alot on my liquids, but then when I went to mushies I put on a quick 7lbs. I was sooooo  thinking "my god, I have to eat...I can't live on liquids forever, but I just gained 7 flipping pounds". Everyone on here and my dr assured me that it was normal and it would fall off quickly. i had my doubts, but they were right . Just give it more time, I know I had "buyers remorse" for a while and cried my eyes out for 2 weeks. Now if they want my band back, they have to rip it from my cold dead body :cursing:.

Am I the only one that thinks this is a diet?
chickadee81 replied to pickles123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and the 3 bite rule also helps to make you feel less like an outcast at things like birthdays and weddings . Take a bite, enjoy it and really taste it then do that like 2 more times. Again I do not do this all the time and if you did I am sure that yes you prob will gain weight, but it helps me feel like I am not on a diet and I am not deprived. Plus the Dr. said it was ok by him. -

chickadee81 replied to pickles123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pickles-I see your point that you have lost that much before, but just like you said yourself...how long did you keep that off? That's the difference. Losing that much with a defective port is awesome and just think...now that it's fixed you will start getting fills and get some restriction and it will feel less like a diet. I opt to keep my band a tad bit loose because yes I do eat the dreaded BREAD once in a great while. I just choose the whole wheat kind with lots of fiber (and hey TMI, but with the high protein I can use all the fiber i can get!) I know for me personally if I feel deprived, I snap and got way overboard with the bad food. So yes I don't always eat things that are what my surgeon would consider good. He also said that yes in a perfect world he would like me to never touch cake or cookies or ice cream or chips ever again, but he knows that that's really not realistic and said if I really want or feel like I need something, incorporate the extra calories (eat really good the rest of the day) and try to go by the 3 bite rule which really works well for me. I can take 3 bites and be satisfied and not feel deprived. Hope this makes sense and helps! -

Me-I've never been quiet and almost always say what's on my mind. And sarcasm is one of my most favorite things in the whole wide world . Hey-maybe that's why I was never in one of those "cliques" -

Ahhh...I just so get a kick out of people! And Leigha-you said what was on my mind. I too was never part of a "clique" so I feel so honored. An I LUV BOB (all in caps of course because Bob loves all caps hehehe) fan club is a great idea. How about a thread??? I would love to see the responses there. Bob-please just keep being Bob because we love it . Leigha-I would die in those shoes. I'm only 28 and yes I would die. I have the worst feet. Happy for you though that you can now wear them and you are buying you something that makes you feel good. About the boobs, I just noticed yesterday that mine are starting to travel south :cursing:. They haven't shrunk(DDD or F ), just getting closer and closer to my stomach. I said no plastic surgery for me, but I am def reconsidering now! I want those babies hoisted back up and as perky as a teenager . Christie-you have a way with words!! -

Curiosity got the best of me and I just had to look at your post Bob. All I can say is . And btw, you are right! The liquid diet 2 weeks before for me was pure hell, in fact on day 2 it triggered a migraine and I missed work, but I never once cheated. Now have I had the perfect diet post-op...no, but definitly a world better than it was. I also can't imagine the pain of a heart attack. i've had really bad heartburn a few times that I pondered if that is all that it was, but I am sure the pain is probably so much worse. Most of the time I love blatant honesty (that is of course unless it's directed at me ) lol. -

So glad to hear! I have a friend who just had a heart attack yesterday. He's only 33! A mild one and he will recover, but again another wake up call for me as to why I got my band in the first place. Still thinking of your family Betsy! That had to be very scary for you and him. -
Cigna Insurance Approval
chickadee81 replied to dm5201's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well...when my papers were first submitted, they didn't like my DR's letter of medical necessity, so I was denied within like 2 days. Upon re-submitting, it took them in between 2 weeks and a month to approve me because then it had to go to the "appeals board" So in other words it would have taken way less time if I was approved the first time -

I vary day to day. Some days I can eat alot more than 8oz and take almost normal bites (as long as I chew the crap out of them) and other days I am eating pretty much just liquids, mushies, and sliders just to get SOMETHING in me. -

My last appt I didn't get a fill even though they felt I could use a little tweak, but I still went because it was my 6mo check-up....so in other words I am no help . I am too scared of ending up like poor Christie and what that darn Steve keeps doing to her. -

Ok...y'all twisted my arm. I am in for Labor Day since I skipped the 4th. I am in for 16.6 pounds. A little ambitious, and I despise failure, but that will put me at 175 and I will officially be "OVERWEIGHT" -

Dottie-so good to hear from you...and glad that you are on the mend! Bobbie-sorry you keep going through so much! Thinkin bout you!! Elfie-nope not really cooler here at all the actual temp was 94 here today in PA and with the heat index was even warmer . Really puts a damper on my exercise because I am so much less motivated indoors. Leigha-that's alot of tomatoes! Let me know how the unprocessed foods go. It's something that I am interested in...but seems so pricey. Denise-the rings are really pretty The 4th was a really bad eating/drinking day . At least I couldn't eat that much. Hmm...might need to join this Labor Day challenge. Maybe to be "overweight" by Labor day??? -

Thanks...I was starting to get really worried because it has been constant non stop for the last 3 days and getting progressivly stronger, but like i said I was told all is good with the band at least. They said I could probably even stand to be a bit tighter, but that isn't happening until I get this heartburn under control.
