    Fill questions

I was filled about 6 weeks after my surgery. I was only given about 4cc out of a 12 cc band. It didn't do anything for me, but the recommendations are to start slow. I was filled again about 3 weeks after that, and took another 3 CCs. That was great. I lost 10 lbs the first week. I started loosing about 2 -5 lbs a week after that. I was upset witht the whole processs until I got me 2nd fill, then I became a believer, and I'm totally satisfied with my decision to have the lapband. Good luck. btw, I'm down 60 lbs total, and had my surgery Feb 8, 2010. The best part is I'm off insulin.
  2. I would have posted my disappointment if I wouldn't have had my 2nd fill. I'm going for a 3rd fill tomorrow. I was gaining weight too, before my 2nd fill and told the nurse my bills were still coming in and I'm gaining weight. She told me to be patient and at the time, I was frustrated. I lost 10 lbs the first week after my 2nd feel. I'm down about 14 lbs from the 2nd feel. Here is the post I placed after that fill. Hang in there. I too was ready to throw in the towel. I ran 1.5 miles today. Things are getting better. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/non-believer-becomes-believer-113528-new/
  3. I had surgery Feb 8th. So long ago I don't even count the weeks any more, so I'm not sure. Got my first fill March 22nd. I started out at 296, and got as low as 271. I got to 271 before my first feel. The first fill didn't do anything for me. I still had hunger pains a lot. I've been really discouraged thinking I wasted my money. I'm still getting bills. When I went for my 2nd fill last Monday I told the nurse I'm 2 lbs. heavier than my last visit, and laid in explaining my dissatisfaction. She was hummorous about my outburst. She explained this takes time to get to the right fill. She gave me 4.5 ccs on the first visit, and another 4 ccs on the 2nd. I weighed 279 on my scale before going in on Monday for my 2nd fill. Today I weight 269. I lost 10 lbs in 5 days. I've broke the 270 line. I've been trying to do that for years. and could never do it. I'd get to 271, and get stuck. Eventually creep back up, and I got as high as 301. My mind is totally different today than it was a week ago when I thought I was doomed. Just wanted to let some of the non-believers who have recently had surgery and not loosing weight know that it may take time to get to the right fill. I know I'm not going to lose 10-12 lbs a week all the time, but I can get a comfortable feel quickly. I haven't had the hunger/urge to snack in the evening like I used to. I am totally different than I was a week ago. The tool is working.
  4. Fortunately I don't have to worry about the monthly hormones. Although my wife says I PMS more than most women. Sounds like you have a goal and an action plan. All you can do from here is give it your best effort. And it sounds like you are pretty motivated. Thanks for the comments. Good luck!!!
  5. Thanks, My band is a 10 cc band.

    Going nowhere over two months

Awkward, Thanks for the post. I haven't been on the forum abouth 2-3 weeks. I too have been discouraged about the process. I have moved back to my old patterns of eating. I ate 3 slices of pizza on Sunday. I really felt doomed, as my sugars started to increase in the danger zone again. I was banded on the Feb 8th. On March 22 I had my first fill. I started out around 296 lbs, although my highest last year was 301 lbs. A couple weeks after surgery I was down to 271 lbs. Then Monday I was 279 lbs. I went in for my 2nd fill yesterday. I told the nurse that I was disappointed that I'm two months out and starting to gain weight. I feel like I've wasted money and time. I really demonstrated how angry I was to be gaining weight. Why are we Mickey Mousing around with 4cc in a 10cc band? She filled me with another 4.5. I can definitely feel the restriction now. I don't have the hunger pains I was having a couple day ago before my last fill. I lost 4 pound since Monday morning. I might even be too tight because I threw up three times today. My wife thinks I am eating too fast, and not chewing enough. I agree. I can see there are a lot of us in the same boat, and it looks like many people have success after the right restriction. I am hoping this could be me. I'll keep you posted. I'm glad there is a forum to share our journey. I was tired of hearing about all the success, so that's why I didn't even want to come on the forum. I feel a lot better to see we can share experience, so we don't feel alone. Best Wishes!!!
  7. I'll be at 5 weeks post-op on Monday. A week after my surgery I was down to 278, and a couple weeks after that I got to 271. Today I am at 277. The nurse told me that anything I lose between the post-op visit and my first fill would be bonus. And once I got the fill, that's where I would see the results. I have always felt really hungry trying to stick with the 4 0z servings and the 1/2 cup serving's. I'm stuck at this weight. I think I've seen other people's comments that they have lost weight before their first fill. Any suggestions would be helpful. The bills are starting to come in from the surgery, and I'm concerned if I made the right decision. Your thoughts would be helpful. I need some motivation here.
  8. Thanks for the true comments. This isn't going to be as easy as I thought once the surgery was over. I feel like I am getting back into the old habits. I work from home, so I've been trying to find other places to work from, so I'm not thinking about food. I have been exercising, but was asked not to get too crazy until week six post-op. The hardest part is not being full with just a can of tuna, or protein shakes. Maybe I need to spend more time with a nutritionist. All your comments are truly appreciated.
  9. Thanks for the comments. Do you feel like you're eating less and feeling satisfied with the portions? I also had to see what Philippians's 4:13 addressed. That was also a motivator. Thanks for helping.
  10. I was dissapointed about gaining weight when I returned from the hospital. I stayed overnight because of my co-morbidities. I gained 4 pounds and hadn't eaten anything but small amounts of jello and the protien shakes. I was also scared this wasn't going to work for me. A week after my surgery I did my post op visit, and I was 20 lbs from the pre op visit. I think my weight gain came from the IVs they gave me while in the hospital. I'm now waiting for my first fill. The Drs office said anything I loose between now and the first fill is bonus. I've come down a few pounds since then, but not what I would like. I'm just trying to be patient.

5 Months out, 54 pounds down

Congratulations. Sounds like you are dropping about 10 pounds/month. I am hoping to do that. Just got banded last Monday, and had my follow-up today. I am down 20 since my pre-op visit Jan 12th. What have been the keys to your success? I'd like to finish off another 80 pounds?
  12. I was banded on Monday, and everything seemed to be normal. I attended a banquet for one of my sons sports tonight and they served the kids pizza from one of the better New York style pizza parlors here in town. I could see myself digging into the sausage pizza and imagined myself eating a slice. Even cheating to have one bite. I didn't do it. The pizza smelled so good. :crying: Didn't think that would have an effect on me. Right now I feel like a drug addict that needs a fix. I'm having a real hard time with the shakes, Jello, and popsicles. Please give me a comment how you got past this and survived. I still have a few days before I can try cottage cheese, and refried beans..... The shakes seem to be making nuatious. I just want to go to sleep and wakeup in 6 weeks. :scared2:
  13. Wanted to say thanks to all for your support. I feel much better today. I felt like I was ready to jump off the mountain there for a couple of days. I was ready to indulge. I changed up the shakes, and changed the jello. Yesterday I strained the chicken noodle soop and just ate the broth from that. Today I weighed in at 275. I'm down 19 pounds from the start of the preop diet, and my preop visit was 301. My blood pressures were 117/73. I was addmitted to a cardiac center earlier this year because my bps were 200/110. My sugars this morning were 119. I usually range in the 200-400. I've only taken about 50 units of insulin this week. I ususally go through 200-300 units a day which costs me $600 every couple of months in co-pays. Thanks for everyone's support comments. Sounds like everyone's experienced the same feelings. I just wanted to share the success I reached in a short week, and I'm focused on that versus the "pizza".
  14. Thanks for everyone's comments. It sounds like this happens to everyone. I went to bed to get some rest after my post, and feel better. The pizza smell stuck with me for a while there. The Jello doesn't taste so bad this morning, but I'm worried about the end of the day. Fridays are usually a night we go out to eat as a family. How long does Bandster Hell usually last? A couple weeks, or is it the six months before I find my sweet spot? Thanks for suggestions on the changes you all made in food preparation. I don't start the mushy until late next week. Right now I understand it's only water, Jello and protien shakes. I weighed myself this morning at 278.4. The day I went in for surgery I was around 292. The day I weighed in for my preop I was 301 on the doctors scale. Since I can see progress that keeps me fighting. This morning my BP was 133/75, and my sugar was 122. Both of these are much improved. My sugar can range from 200-400. Thanks for everyone's support and comments. Believe me they are very much helpful and supportive.
  15. Got banded yesterday. Doctor said everything went well. I'm doing the 75 grams of protien, and 64 total ounces of water. I have some pain like I have to burb, but can't. Also feel like I have to pass gass, but can't. Took some Oxicoden to see if this will help. Feeling stressed about eating the shakes for another week. Any advice?
  16. Thanks for all the comments. I was disappointed to be 4 pounds higher than when I started. The crazy part is the next day I was at 284. I had to get on the scale a couple of times to make sure I was reading it corretly. Today I was at 280. So I am down 14 pounds from when I returned home. My sugars have all been below 150, and usually below 130. I am used to the range of 200-400. My A1Cs have ranged from 9-12.5 the last couple of years. Last quarter I was about a 9.5. I'm hoping this could bring back to the low 7s. I only took about 30 units of Novalog yesterday, and typically take about 250 units. The progress is already taking place. I am also getting excited about exercising again. I am going to do some major walking today.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I really feel lke I can't pass the gas right now. My stomach is grumbling, but nothing is happening. I also weighd myself returning from the hospital. I gained 4 pounds from the day I went in. I stayed there last night becase of my diabetes and high blood pressure. Any one else ever gain weight returning home. I was expecting to be down a couple more pounds. Maybe it was because of the IVs?
  18. I was scheduled for lapband surgery on 1-22. I did the upper EDG a couple days before the surgery, and the Gastro Dr said I had some issues in the esophogus and throat. They cancelled my surgery and said they would need to wait for the biopsy to determine next steps. They said I had h-pylori, and started treatment which took a couple of weeks. I am having surgery tomorrow, so I believe all is well. I will be test again for the h-pylori in a 6 weeks. Reading about the h-pylori, I understand it can cause ulcers and other problems if not treated, so I was blessed to find it. Otherwise I wouldn't have ever known.

    Pre-op overeating?///

Last week a couple days before my surgery I had to complete an upper EDG. They found I had h-pylori infection in the stomach and esophagus. They cancelled my surgery until I'm done with my treatments. So they moved my surgery to Feb 5th. The crazy part is I'm done with feeling I need the last meal. My wife asked if I wanted to go to Zinzetis, and I don't feel the need. I am ready to start eating good foods, exercising and loosing weight. I don't have the last meal syndrome any more.
  20. My surgery was scheduled for last Friday (1-22). I did the last test before surgery which called for an upper EDG. The test found I had problems in the stomach and esaphogus. They did a biopsy and found I had h-pylori. I am taking a treatment of meds each day for two weeks. Has anyone ever had this same problem? Were you able to get rid of h-pylori?
  21. Thanks for the comments. I've never met anyone else that has this before. Glad to hear everything worked out for her and the treatments. I agree I have a great medical team. Kind Regards,
  22. I had my pre-op visit with Dr. Michael Snyder. We are set for 1-22. Everything went well. I was thinking that I would need to start the liquid diet for the two weeks prior to the surgery, but only have to do a liquid diet for 24 hours. I weighed in at 301 lbs. Dr Snyder thinks I could be down 100 lbs. in 8 months. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea. I pray that I can get rid of all these things. My cousin did, and he is the one who recommended this to me.

    Pre-op Completed Today

I had my last visit to have an upper EDG before my scheduled surgery this Friday. The doctor said there was inflamation in the esophogus, and stomach. That will need to be healed before they can move on with the surgery. Still not sure what caused that. I am really bumbed. They did a biopsie to see what the cause may be.

3rd place in my age group 10k Jan9,2010

Wow, that is cool. I get banded on 1-22. I told my boss, who is a runner, that I want to do a 5k this year. He is going to send a list of 5ks here in Colorado. My co-worker got wind of this, and she is going to join. I weighed in at 301 for my pre-op, so running just istn't comfortable on my knees right now. Any advice how I can train?

    Getting my life back.

I guess I've thought that I'm too young. This could never happen to me. One thing that you mentioned hit home. My grand-father had health issue he didn't take care of when I was 7-8, and passed away. My father also pushed him to take care of himself, even for me. I loved him so much, but he didn't change even for me. I mourned his death for 25 years. Your message hits home.
