I have been telling people about my surgery on a "need to know" basis. I work for 2 physicians, so of course, I had to tell them (they would have known anyway as they are my PCPs) and I have told my co-workers, family and closest friends. My DH, however, has been telling quite a few people. I never asked him not to tell anyone and I'm not ashamed of it, but I feel like some of the people he has told didn't "need to to know." He says that he is just so proud of me for taking this step that he has wanted to tell people. Sweet, in a way, but still.... One thing that has ticked me off is that when he told his boss that he would need to be off several days for my surgery, his boss, whose own wife had RNY (they ended up divorced, she left him for another man) told my DH "Well, I see a divorce coming your way." What an A**hole!

Does any one have a recommendation for a book on the lap band experience? I have seen several on Amazon, but not sure which one I should order. :phanvan

My surgeon puts all of his patients on the HMR 800 Meal Replacement. 5 shakes a day and 64 oz of any non-caloric liquid. I have the vanilla and chocolate. I can add fruit, splenda etc. to the shakes. Too bad I can't add carmel... lol. I am drinking Crystal Light fruit punch today, it's pretty good. I bought the "on the go" packets and I shake it up in my bottled Water. Man I can't remember when I have spent more time trotting to the bathroom! lol

I started preop protein shake diet this morning. I haven't really been hungry so far, just wishing for something with some crunch. Does anyone have any good ideas/recipes for add ins to protein shakes?

:clap2: Way to go Chrispy!! I'm so glad to hear that everything went well! Keep us updated with your progress. I'm dying to know what it's gonna be like to be on the band side!
-
Mari: I am looking at that same book on Amazon! What did you think of the amazon review of it?
-
Wooohoooo Shellybeans and Chrispygal! Your day is here! Good luck today and our prayers are with you that everything goes smoothly. Keep us posted on your progress when you feel up to it.

I start liquid diet on the 4th too! My surgeon provides HMR 800 at the preop visit. "Provides" it for $129 for a 2 week supply! lol

Congrats Cowgirl! Best wishes for a great banding to you!
-
Jessica- I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. Keep your chin up! You'll be banded in no time!

Although I am looking forward to starting my pre-op diet, I know that it is going to be hard. My surgeon insists that I clean all the junk food out of the house immediately, but it is hard when you have 3 children, even though I know that they don't need it either and DH is insulin dependent diabetic. This is my last week before I start pre-op diet and I can tell that my appetite is picking up and I find myself thinking about things that I won't ever be able to eat again. Dang! I thought I had that demon whipped!

I have been trying real hard to not go on a "farewell tour" and to try to make better food choices. However, I will say this... before Oct. 4th gets here and I start pre-surg diet, I will be going to Olive Garden :heh: Alfredo and breadsticks... that is my big good-bye plan lol

I am so happy to have so many October bandsters to share with! We are all about to begin a fantastic journey. If anyone would like, please feel free to pm me. I would love to talk to all of you! Man, I feel lucky... I did not have to have a barium swallow as part of my pre-op... ewwwww!

Congrats to all!! I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but I am sort of excited to start the Protein shake pre-surg diet. Weird? I guess it is because I know that my surgery and new healthier me will be right around the corner once I start it. I went to Wal-Mart today and bought the coolest new blender. It has 12 speeds, one of which is an ice crusher :omg: It also has a food processor attachment, which I am sure will come in handy when I get to the mushy food stage. Btw... if any of you haven't checked out the recipe section of the forum, you really should. I already have some good ideas for later and some for even now. Take care everyone!

Hello and good morning to all! My name is Lori and I joined the forum yesterday. I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I am scheduled to have my lap band done on my birthday, Oct. 16 :biggrin1: I go tomorrow for my pre-surg consult and testing. I am extremely excited and just so ready to make a lifestyle change. I can't wait to be able to play with my kids more and have more stamina and energy for my busy life :clap2: If anyone has any advice or comments for a future bander, I would appreciate it greatly!
