i started my liquid diet today although i didnt have to officially start until thursday but i wanted to start earlier just to get it out the way not so bad on day 1 .. do you guys and gals :cursing: think i will be able to go to a football game and tailgate party 9 days after surgery??? will there be too much pain any thoughts??

Hi September family!!! i called the Dr office and was told to start my liquid diet on sept 2, and i would see the Dr on the 8th then surgery on the 16th i feel like a step is missing BUT i will do as they say they gave me a list of things i can have .. i guess i expected a little more hand holding:wink2:getting really nervous gd luck to everyone!

@ onceuponaband im not too secretive because i figure if you told one person you have told too many and of course ive heard- you dont need to do this you can do it on your own but they dont know my struggle so i ignore them. I have a question has anyone had the final meeting with the surgeon and been giving their pre-op diet because i haven't my surgery is scheduled for 9/16 should i call the office???

September 16th here i havent started any preop stuff yet

congrats !!! i was approved today also surgery schedule for 9/16 fear creeping in a little but Im moving pass it

in my journey i have found that most Doctors push bypass because its more effective and takes less compliance from the patient. My Doc said that most people who have the band do not follow up like their suppose to so the ability to lose all the excess weight is greatly reduced. He said lap band is good for patients who need help with portion control but for the most part make healthy choices gastric bypass is better suited for people who like sweets and make poor food choices most of the time.. In the end he said that he recommends GB over LB because you will lose more weight at a faster pace. i personally am waiting for approval for lap band.

i was just told the same thing i was almost through the last hoop and bam i need a cardiac clearance... i am trying to be positive and think if there is anything wrong with my heart it would be best to find out before i go into surgery but im still a little frustrated because i want to be done already its been 5month.

i met with the surgeon today and i was ready with all the reasons i wanted the lap band and not gastric bypass. i had a list ready because i was under the impression that must dr's push gastric. my primary doc does. but to my shock and amazement the surgeon said i was a perfect candidate because of my eating habit and was told to start thinking of a surgery date. imagine my amazement walking out no fight no argument just ok set up an appt truly everyone's journey is different.

i too have this internal battle... i am 5 mts into the 6 mts supervised diet like wat if it doesn't work or i lose 5 pds a month i can do that on my own . i can do that for 7-8 mts at a time but it never stays off im hoping this will be the ticket to keep it off. i think about gb and realize most if not all people who have it lose weight and alot of it... but i question at what cost??? i'm praying for clarity cause truly i m unsure of what to do.. you are not alone .

i have followed your story from beginning to end .. and i have one question with all the good and bad days that you have had have you manage to lose any weight???? are you finding it difficult to follow the rules?

i have 5 friends that have the gastric by pass 1 of them is about 50 pds from the weight she started. 1 has regained all plus more and its been about 5 yrs for each of them.. 2 of them did lose weight and look terrible old drawn up hair falling out they have vitamin deficiencies and 1 of them has lost way 2 much weight to the point that she looks sick.. so suffice it to say i am not taking any chances with the bypass...

can anyone give me a suggestion of a band friendly drink? i know about the empty calories but i have an event to go to and need a go to drink. im not banded yet but am trying to adopt some practices before i am .

welcome nae ... im abt 3 mts into my 6mts supervised medical diet.. so has it really been hard for you to lose the weight? was it a struggle or did have the band help. i have lost alot of weight and always pt it back on.. what was ur starting weight

being as this port is in your abdominal area does it "change" your sex life i mean as far as positions . im thinking you might squeeze it or crush it .can anyone give me some insight. Thanks :thumbup:

thanks all !!! im sure the weight loss will improve the sex life but in the beginning is the site painful if you try different positions

i watched a video explaining all the different procedures and how they work it went over the changes you will need to make in order to be successful . i filled out a TON of paperwork we had a question and answer period . i was given a check list of the things they need to send 2the insurance company for approval.good luck on your journey

my doc sad I need 2 stay2 days I live in nyc and have ghi.. I was surprised at the 2 days everyone seemed to have a much shorter stay

can someone explain what eating around the band means and how do i avoid it ?

im praying for you. your story has touched my heart and i pray that you find your way... iam in the beginning stages of my lap band journey .but as a person who has always struggled with my weight my heat goes out to you. may god bless you as you make your way back to a healthy weight

has any one ever been approved for surgery by their ins w/o other issues . my BMI is 44 but i dont have any other health issues the Dr says there shouldnt be a problem because a bmi of 44 is extreme obesity. i was just wondering

Thanks everyone . im not sure about the sleep apnea . the doctor asked do i snore i asked my partner and he said no . i told the doc that and he hasnt said anything else about it. At least i have some hope now. i guess this is what this site is for :smile2:

i dont know if you have found a ghi dr but i have the same exact coverage as you and i go to the advance bariatric care center on flatlands in BK and they are in network if you need more information let me know

wow pa seems really strict . im in new york and its not simple but not as much as you.i have my next appt in january with the regular dr . i m going to ask him when i can see the nutritionist cause i know i have to. i will keep you posted and you do the same again good luck
