    Trying to keep going!

So this weekend didn't go as well as I hoped for in terms of dieting//working out. Saturday would have been day 2 for my diet & working out for my pre-op diet but I woke up with a really sore throat that morning & I couldn't really get out of bed until I had to for work. I worked late that night and then had to drive back to my parents house to start my winter break from college! Yesterday I was still not feeling the greatest so there wasn't alot of exercising on Saturday & Sunday besides work but I did pretty good with the eating part, I was definitely reasonable with the choices I made so that's a plus in all this. So today I woke up feeling much better so I started again on my diet & work out. I'm doing my 3 protein shakes a day & then a Lean Cuisine, or another meal similar, for dinner. Lynn, my nurse that is awesome, told me that I need to do 90 minutes of exercise a day to have weight loss so that's what I have been doing. On Friday, which was day 1, I did 60 minutes on one of the bike machines & then I did 30 minutes on one of the olyptical machines at my schools fitness center. Now that I am at home & don't have access to an actual fitness center I'll just be using our treadmill that we own. Today I started on the treadmill & had 45 minutes completed & I was really getting into it & I had my iPod blasting & then the machine turned off out of nowhere! Now it is not working, oh boy. My brother suggested that I use our Wii Fit games that we have cause those are work outs too I guess? So I'm going to look into that as well. I hope everyone else is doing great & is enjoying this time of year! Luck & words of encouragement are always appreciated! Until tomorrow... missKAYLA :cursing:

    First day for pre-op diet!

Hello all! This is my first blog so far so I'm not totally sure what to write about, so just bear with me I'm getting banded January 4th, 2010 and it's coming up very quicklY! My surgeon is Dr. Jeff Baker and he is just fabulous! I've only officially met him one time but I have so much confidence in him and he has an amazing reputation for his work! Anyways, I went in to see the nurse practicioner, Lynn who I also adore, and weighed in at 264.5 which is about 15lbs lower than my highest weight since I've been considering surgery which was 281. Lynn told me that my surgeon would like me down to 259 before surgery which I was thrilled about because that is a very realistic number! So I went in last week for my educational appointment and to meet with my surgeon and officially set the date! I was only down to 263, but hey it's improvement! Well when I met with my surgeon he was like 'I think you're doing great and if you could get yourself down to 255-257 that would be ideal and you can definitely do it!' Oh great, another 6-8 lbs to lose over Christmas... So here I am about to start my first official day on my pre-op diet. I'm drinking 3 protein shakes a day and eating a Lean Cuisine for dinner which I think is pretty realistic and is still about 1000 calories total! Today is also day 1 of my exercise that I'm starting to hopefully help shed some pounds. Lynn told me that I need to exercise 90 minutes a day to start losing weight which also is realistic. I'm a college student who is on winter holiday right now so it's not like I have anything else to do. I'm just slightly nervous because I have an appointment with my surgeon on December 29th as sort of a check up to see how I am doing with the weight loss so if I'm not doing good I'll go to an all liquid diet. I just hope that I will have made some improvement and he won't make me do that but I know I'll get out what I put in. So with that being said, I'm off to the gym! Luck and words of encouragment are always appreciated! Good luck to all of you as well!

  7. Hello all :willy_nilly: my name is Kayla, I'm 20 years old, a junior in college, and I'm from Minnesota! I just joined this website figuring it would be good for me to have others to talk to who are going through similar situations and so far I think it's really cool! I've always been a chubby kid growing up and just became used to it. I got made fun of a little bit but not as bad as some people, I figure it was just the 'average' amount if that makes sense. Growing up I never really let my weight bother me but the few times that I heard some of the mean things that people would say it really hurt my feelings and made me hate my body. After experiencing my bullying I became the 'funny girl'. I've always been very outgoing and very social but it's like I started performing for people so that even though I was overweight people would like me because I could make them laugh. For most of my life that worked alright. I always had tons of friends, never had a problem getting boyfriends, I did all the fun high school things, so I never felt that my weight held me back much since it was something that I had for as long as I could remember. About 3 weeks before my sweet sixteen I got the news that my aunt was murdered by her husband. My aunt was like a second mother to me so it was a very traumatic experience. I think that was a big trigger for more weight gain along with being sexually abused my sophomore year in high school and being diagnosed with depression in 9th grade. I was always over weight but I didn't look fat I just didn't fit into size 2 jeans. When all of those things happened I really started packing on the pounds. I saw a therapist for all my problems and I'm very proud to say that I'm doing so much better but food was my comfort and I was just never able to really let that go which is how I got to my highest at 281 pounds. In October of 2008 I went to my first doctor appointment to learn about the weight loss surgery option and began doing all my pre-surgery requirements. After I completed like 5/6 of the requirements I changed my mind on the surgery because I began to lose weight on my own and thought it was somewhat easy. I was able to drop 25 pounds in like a month and a half. Then the weight loss haulted and I gained about 7 of the pounds back. It is very hard being on a diet and making it to the gym 4 times a week while going to college and working as well. When I realized that our insurance would pay for all of my surgery I reconsidered the surgery and have a surgery planned for Monday, January 4th, 2010. I feel so blessed for all of my family and friends who are in my life and supporting me through this time. I also feel very blessed to be given the opprotunity to have surgery in the first place! I've never felt that my life was terrible or not fun or that I've missed out on anything but as I've gotten a little older I'm starting to figure out things that I want to try but could be difficult because of my weight. Last February I was diagnosed with PolyCystic Ovary Syndrom (PCOS) and was told that it will be very hard for me to get pregnant in the future unless I lose weight and I'll most likely still need fertility drugs even after some weight is lost. Even at 20 and not desiring children anytime soon, one of my dreams is to be a mother and I want to figure out things now to make that dream possible. I also think that this surgery will give me more self confidence and overall happiness in my life that I lost about 5 years ago. I hope you all enjoyed reading my 'story' as I have enjoyed reading yours! I also look forward to getting in touch with people since the people I have talked to so far have just been wonderful! Happy holidays everyone & God bless! missKAYLA
  8. I totally feel for the people who are going to be on the liquid diet over Christmas, I'll be doing it right along with ya! My scheduled surgery is Monday, January 4th, I'm about 266 right now and need to be 259 for surgery so I need to lose 7 lbs, when should I start my liquid diet?
  9. oh wow blackcherry, thanks for sharing that with me! like i said i'm really not nervous i'm just excited! any nervousness i do get once in a while is normal i think! Mary: i'm from brooklyn park, minnesota but i go to school in mankato! i still have like 6 lbs to lose for surgery and i've been food journaling & everything but haven't been able to work out since it's been so cold & we had a blizzarD! so i'm guessing i'll have to go on like a liquid diet to get my weight lost :/
  10. yeah that would be really great! are you nervous at all? i have 2 doctor appointments tomorrow for the surgery i just can't believe how soon it is! it's only like, 23 days away or something? i'm so excited!

    Drinking after surgery

I'm getting banded on January 4th and my 21st birthday is in August, so about 8 months after my surgery. I'm in college but really don't drink too much anymore cause I was CRAZY freshman & junior year lol. My goal for me is to not drink until my 21st because I want to look my best and it'll just be a real celebration! Good luck to you! Live it up & have some fun however you decide to do that!
