Diabetes and Lap Band Surgery
Ready2 replied to Karon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also WAS diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic. (Note the word "WAS"). Since the weight loss, I take no medication and only test my sugars once a week in the morning, just to make sure. I haven't had a reading over 100 in over a year. I LOVE MY BAND! It is incredible feeling healthy. People actually call me skinny now - WOW -
I drink one every day. I enjoy them in place of soda now.

I am 16 months out and STILL can't eat a Subway sandwich. My body doesn't do bread of any kind well. I could do the insides OK though.

Questions for those who have been here for awhile

I haven't even tried popcorn, but I can eat all the rest including Mexican and Italian food. I do fine with pasta but can't do bread at all. -

I FINALLY TOLD HUBBY!!!!!
Ready2 replied to NJGirl32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great news - I've been wondering about this for days! -
I went this route because I didn't want those scars done my arms either. Mine was $895 per arm and I had NO pain. This morning my arms feel like I lifted a few too many weights. Sore but not painful. The biggest change so far is when I have my arms down along my side. They are sooooo much smaller and sculpted. Seriously they look like I work out. The underside is very swollen and bruised, so they will need more time to see the results. The compression garment is NOT fun though. It didn't bother me while I was sleeping but the tightness is bothering me during the day. Time will tell! If it works I may do my inner thighs. Not sure why, but sure not complaining, after losing all this weight my tummy went flat.

Hubby helped me change the mummy dressing a while ago. The first thing he said was "wow your arms are small now". It's hard to tell when you have like huge Maxi-pads wrapped around your arms though. Plus a compression top that is 10x worse than Spanx. Worth it though.

Cheat foods not bothering me?!
Ready2 replied to teekii77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't eat a lot of the things that others bandsters do and I am (15) months post-op. There is no possible way that I could eat a soft taco from Taco Bell. That doughy tortilla would become a glob and I'd better be close to a restroom. I haven't had a chip or a single piece of bread to this day. I have had a few Oreo's that I chewed the hell out of. I did not self-pay $14,000 to fail. Money is too precious to me. If we go to a Mexican restaurant I order a cheese enchilada ala carte (with extra red sauce to make it really moist) and steal a few spoon full refried Beans from hubbys plate and I am perfectly satisfied. I can't eat any more than that. I have a Protein shake from GNC every morning - I have come to really love them. Even before my surgery I was never a Breakfast person. I love to put different fresh fruit in the vanilla ex. strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, banana (yum). Even tried canned mandarian oranges and it tasted like an Orange Julius. For lunch at work I will have a salad, or deli turkey meat, hard-boiled eggs, low-fat string chesse or slices of cheddar. Oh and I love cottage cheese with some Marinara sauce on it. Certain Lean Cusines work perfect to heat up in a hurry at work. Please trying counting to (10) before you eat something that isn't a positive food item for your LapBand. Say to yourself "Is this REALLY worth it?" Steping off my soapbox now..... -
I took before pictures so I will post both. Just need someone to tell me how to post them...LOL

Do you ever get to where you don't feel like a fat person?
Ready2 replied to southernrootslbc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a closet full of clothes that would hang on me like a circus tent too......Why can't I get rid of them? I'm a size 6 now those size 16 clothes and XL tops will NOT fit. They just take up room in my closet. -
I'm already home from San Diego and Arm Liposculpture. It didn't hurt at all. First they inject a solution that melts the fat. Then they insert a long thin instrument that suctions out all the fat. I was awake and just had a general. I will take pictures in about a week when the swelling is down. I am wrapped up like a mummy right now and in the tightest compression garment you can ever imagine. Before they put the dressing on I got to see my arms. Already they are sooooo toned. Besides removing the fat from the under arm, they sculpt the top side of your arm. Mine look like I have worked out for a long time - I can't believe it since I am still swollen. After it was over and I was all wrapped up, they showed me what was removed from my arms. Gross = 2 lbs. of fat! This could get addicting if I had the money.

Has any old timers made it with never throwing up or getting stuck?
Ready2 replied to JWKJR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow I'm jealous. I throw up at least once a week, sometimes more. But it's my fault. I work a fast paced job and tend to eat too fast. If I get stuck I definetely do not try to drink anything or it will for sure come back up. I haven't had bread since January 2010 and really don't miss it. I do fine with rice or Pasta if I CHEW CHEW CHEW. -
Do you ever get to where you don't feel like a fat person?
Ready2 replied to southernrootslbc's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good topic...... I don't know if I will ever get over my mind thinking I am fat. When I go shopping I still pick up items that are way too big for me. I went from a size 16 to a perfect size 6 now, but mentally I am not there yet. I know this sounds strange, but I am struggling to maintain my goal weight. I keep losing and if I try to eat more it all comes back up. The learning stage of this process changes all the time - I'm up for the task. -
One day post op and veterans, I could use some advice :)
Ready2 replied to Beachy_Babs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your surgery. It works! Make sure you get your Protein. I let myself get too weak and ended up passing out in the kitchen. I hit my head going down and ended up in the ER. Please be careful. I still make Protein shakes from GNC every single day (even though I am at goal) because this way I start out my day with a boost of protein. -
18 months Post-Op - A SUCCESS!
Ready2 replied to Lap Band Gal's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations - you even look younger! I am 15 months post-op and also at goal. How do you do the maintenance? I can't figure it out and I keep losing. I'm 5'8" and also a size 6 now, but I don't want to get any smaller. Any advice on the maintenance program? I have tried to eat more but I can't. Did you have to get a slight unfill? -
Sorry to tell you this but I had my surgery 15 months ago and I STILL belch.
-
I'm with you. My eyes got lost trying to get to the next line.

Hello??? Does lap band work???
Ready2 replied to PamelaLVN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
LapBand WORKS!!! You need more Protein..... It has taken me 15 months to lose 73 lbs....................I even had 1 month where I didn't lose a single pound. I never gave up - just (1) more to go!
