This has been a horrible week. I went in to get a fill with my DR., who unfortunately had a hard time finding my port. After being pocked about nine times in order to find my port I finally got my fill. Since that day I have had a difficult time sleeping, a have terrible heartburn and acid reflux to the point were I wake up choking with that acidy taste in my mouth and esophagus. From what I’ve been reading Its possible that my band may be to tight, but I have been able to eat and drink my portions with minimal restriction. It almost feels as if the fill didn’t make me any tighter but just gave me horrible heartburn. The heartburn is also only happening at night and never throughout the day. If anyone has ever encountered this problem I would appreciate your input.

Well update! today i went to the docters office for my post op check up. Everything appears to be good I feel back to normal, fortunately i didn't need to take any pain meds post op and recovered fairly fast. This journey has been good so far the hardest part for me is the diet. I guess that is something I will battle with for the rest of my life. Food is truly an addiction the first two days I wanted to eat something so bad, eventhough i wasn't hungry. The good news is i'm down 10lbs so far in less than a week. I know! numbers really dont matter cuz long term it's just that a number. But at this point is a good start, one thing that I do need to get better at is exercise, I havent walked since sunday. One thing I am looking for is some good recipes for protein shakes or smoothies. Also if someone could give me input on what supplements are good i would appreciate it. For now all im taking is a multi vitamin and tums for calcium.

Thanks YM! I feel really good other than wanting to eat real food. How are you doing? Hope all is well!

Dr. Michael Feiz - Dr. Feiz' office....? Anyone have any info to share?

I two was in your situation a few months ago. I visited different doctors and my experience made me feel like it was a meat marked. After doing some research I decided to go with Dr. Feiz. Although my experience with some of his office staff was less than satisfactory I felt he was highly recommended. Dr. Feiz performed my surgery last friday and I must say that im extremely happy. I was able to leave the hospital the same day with minimal pain. I did not even need to take my pain medication. So if your looking for a highly qualified surgeon you cant go wrong with Feiz. He seems to me as though he cares about his patients but is extremely busy. Although if it's truly him answering questions on this site he cares enough to respond. Well good luck and hope you find someone who works for you. -
Jaimemealy I hope things work out for you, unfortunately i cant be much help I had my surgery last friday but fortunately didn't experience much pain. One thing that helped me was to walk alot for the first couple of days. I walked as much as I could 20 to 30 min at a time. Another thing i did was to take yoga like deep breaths for a few minutes at a time trying to make my lungs work. As far as for the diet what has been helping me is smoothies, the only recipe i have so far is i use a few frozen strawberries some fat free yogurt just a little bit and 1/4 of a banana for sweetness and a little of water i dont use milk since you have the yougurt. Hope this helps and keep up the good work.

So today was the day, What a day! got to the hospital at about 7am and just got home about an hour ago. The procedure went well, I do have some shoulder and chest pain but have been walking around. The pain has gotten better from taking deep breaths and walking. I haven't taken any pain medication yet waiting till it's bed time. So far i got to give it to my doctor (Michael Feiz) im in alot less pain that I thought I would be. I've been trying to sip on water to keep hydrated. I extremely hungry but dont know if i should have any protein today. So far so good!

So four more days untill surgery, i'm beggining to feel a little nervous. I think it's not so much the surgery but the thought of this just being another quick fix. As many of us here, i have tried almost every diet in the book and have lost weight but gained it back. The surgery part, well that's just a risk i have to take only the good lord knows what's going to happen. The great thing about this site is that I can take confort in the fact that I'm on the journey others have taken and succeded.

Sounds great, so let me get this straight you continued to be hungry even after the surgery? How is that i thought this surgery is to help with portion control and make you feel full. I have four days untill surgery and cant get use to feeling hungry, I feel as if that's all i thing about. Well good luck I hope you continue your great success.

Ok so after re-scheduling my surgery i'm all set for friday the 29th. I got a call from the doctors office on thursday to start my pre-op diet. Today was my first day and I got to say it's hard. If anyone can give some good advise on getting through this it would be great. Iv'e noticed most people here are told to start two weeks prior, but im not complaining this week is going to be long.

This has me scared....
jdog75 replied to ausamerican33's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my sister had the bypass about 4 years ago and has gained alot of weight back. She did loss alot of weight really quick but that caused her to look weired as her skin was very loose. Both surgeries are made to help the patient learn portion control, but it's up to the individual to make the effort to not continue bad habbits. -

Congrats sounds like your a trooper I hope I do as good as you. Here's another question I was told you could not have gas X or any other medication, and that if we took anything in it would have to be liquid. How true is this. Keep up the good work. -
Hello everyone! I am thinking of getting the lap band procedure done, but I’m having a hard time trusting a doctor. I was scheduled to have the surgery on December 18 with Dr. Michael Feiz but haven't gotten the best pre-op support from his staff to make me certain that these are the people to go with. At first I was being helped by one of his assistants Marissa who assured me that the process would be smooth. But after finding out that my surgery would have to be done at the hospital as required by my insurance my file was transferred to another person who gave me little to no help. I had to constantly call, in order to remain informed on what was going on with the process. I have read a lot of good things about Dr. Feiz and he appears to be a very qualified surgeon, but I have to say I’m disappointed with his staff. Can anyone give me some advice of where to go?
