How are all you July sleeevers doing?
Dickson replied to Ihave6kids's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! So just about 2 months to go for the big one year point, got sleeved on the 31st of July. I'm down about 118lbs right now, started at about 358 and now I'm at 240. I'm 6'3" so the 240 is carrying pretty well on my frame. I would like to go down another 10-20 but I have been at 240 for awhile now. Just have to go back to the basics, diet, Water, Protein and EXERCISE! lol. I'm in Philly right now on business and boy is it easier to fly these days! Gotta love sitting in the seat and not wedging into it! Well hope you all are doing well and keep up the attitudes and the work! Dickson -
Anyone Have Big Stall and At What Point? 3months out
Dickson posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, We are just a bit over 3months out and I have noticed that I have hit a major stall for like 2 weeks. The weight has been going up / down 1 lbs for that time so not really making any progress and it is getting frustrating. I can't really complain as I have lost 83lbs so far but still have more to go! I have went back to looking at what I have been eating, and it has not really changed from what I had been eating prior to. Still keeping the same activity level. Just not sure if the body is taking a breather after losing so much so fast and will get back to burning soon or what. So just checking to see if anyone else had a major stall and if you did what time line out from surgery are we talking about. Thanks! -
Closing in on 16 months post op

Great Job!! Thank you so much for all that you do. -
Wow, let's see is it Being able to sit in a booth at a resturant and not have belly touch the table? Being able to bend over to tie my shoes and not hold my breath while doing it? Putting on my old belt and having to slide into two slots back on the pants due to so much extra hanging out? Being able to look down and actually see my toes or the scale for that matter? Knowing that when we go to Disneyworld this Christmas I will be able to ride any ride I want and not have to worry about the bar not fitting over me? Being able to reach down to let off the emergency brake and not feel like I can just reach due to the seat belt limitations? Being on an airplane this week to Hawaii and fitting in the seat with comfort? Hmmmmmm I guess I can't think of any lol. Great job to everyone!

Hi everyone, Got a stall question, more for my wife. We both had the surgery 8 weeks ago. I have lost 65lbs and she has lost 32lbs but has been stalled for about 1-2 weeks it seems. She is getting frustrated as she is seeing me continue to quickly lose but she is just hanging out. I can definately see the inches coming off of her and clothes are getting thrown out left and right. But just not sure what to tell her about starting to get the pounds moving again. Not sure if calories need to be increased or fluid intake or what. She is getting her protein in and doing pretty good at exercising. So if you got any help give a shout out. Thanks!

Hi everyone. We are at our 6 week point and still doing great. I have lost 60lbs and Kathy is down 33. We are starting to step up the exercise program, boy I have lost a lot of strength since the surgery, so I will just go slow and easy starting out. We both saw our Dr. this week and he is more than happy. We see the nurse at the 3 month point and Dr. again at 6 months. Weird to think what we will be at during that visit. I'm thinking realistically we could be at goal weight by then, wow. Well glad to read most of you are doing well! We are back to Washington weather up here, RAIN! Have a great one!!!

Severe crampy type pain....
Dickson replied to NewandImproved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found that if I eat one bite too much I will sometimes get that feeling. No fun! I think it could also be type of food sometimes as well. I really don't think there is a set guidline, just somethings make it happen and others don't. -
Hi Everyone, Kathy and I are now a little over 5 weeks out. I have lost 55lbs since surgery and 63 overall, Kathy has lost 31 since day of and 41 overall. We are on real food and learning was does and does not work at this point. We are both walking and Kathy even has added in some jogging already. I was going to start weight lifting again but thought I might wait another week even though the Dr said it was ok. Just felt a little punky from work last week, was pretty physical and felt tired from that so just thought it better to listen to the body and not push it too much. Other than that we are doing great. Have been out to dinner and even to a couple Fairs, with all the fair food ( we shared one corn dog and both of us felt really full!) Getting our protien in but have to work on fluids. Find that the busier we get the harder it is to get those in, we will work on that. One cool thing is I found a support group at my work! Right now we meet once a month and we are all different kinds of surgeries, sleeves, RYN, and bands. But hey we all want the same thing, to lose! Well hope you all are doing well, really can't believe it has been 5 weeks already! Really looking forward to the next 5 weeks to see where we are then! Good luck to all. Dickson and Kathy

Hi Everyone! Well Kathy and I are doing great. I am down to 298 as of this morning, an overall loss of 55lbs and 45 since the day of surgery. Kathy is down to 196 which is down 26lbs since the day of surgery! We are finding we can eat pretty much most foods, nothing has had any omg moments. We both have had a couple, ok that was one or two bites too much! But other than that it has really been smooth sailing. Her blood pressure and blood suger are great numbers and she is off all meds for those things. Both of us are doing well on endurance at work ect. I find on the days I have to go up and down the ladders inside the ships I get a little more tired but each day is getting better. We went to the fair last night and where we would have wanted all the "good" fair food in the past, it was soooooo easy to just walk on by this year! I did get myself one treat a hawaiian ice. Thought it might be too much sugar but went down fine and no after effects. This morning the scale seemed to agree as I lost a full pound from the day before! We have our next Dr appt in two weeks almost excited to go to show him how good we are doing. Hope all is well with all of you and if you are still thinking about it, GO FOR IT!!:001_smile:

I would but I'm not allowed to lift that much yet! LOL

Volume of Food - Questions!
Dickson replied to CraftyChristie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone, Good questions and answers! I too was wondering about amount and difference between my wife and I. Seems like I can eat more than her but we both get that "full" feeling so we both must be doing OK lol. All I know is the scale is going down and we both are feeling great. -
Great Post! Thanks.

Well we did it. We went in to Madigan at about 6:30am, Kathy was the first case of the day and I was #2. Felt sort of odd sitting in the staging room after she had left for her surgery. I guess everyone was telling our surgeon he was nuts for doing us both on the same day. But we assured him we had a really good support group at home. When it was my time to go into pre-op I again told them of my issue with anesthesia and how bad my nausea could be. They said they would do everything they could to keep it in check. That was my biggest concern going in, that I was going to rip something from my vomiting afterwards. After a few tries to find a good spot to put in the IV I was ready to go into La La land. Before I went under the surgeon came out and said that Kathy was a text book case, no issues and everything went perfect. Now it was my turn. The next thing I knew I was waking up and being told that everything went well for me as well. No real pain just some tugging. The cathater was a pain to have hanging on my leg. Got up and went for a walk, which actually felt good. The original plan was to have Kathy and I in the same room but they decided with the same last name and using my last 4 SSN (military hosp) that it would be better to have us on different floors due to not wanting to mix up the meds ect. Made sense and we probably got more rest, or at least I did as I got a single room, Kathy had 3 others. She came down to see me that first night. Sleeping that first night was pretty on and off. I have sleep apnea and they had my finger in one of those sensors that monitors O2 levels. I did not bring my C-pap and the monitor kept going off and waking me up all night. Was that way for pretty much the whole time I was there. That was the only complaint other that the cathater that I had, it got twisted so when it was time to come out WOW!!!! The nurse found out that I was indeed a sailor with what came out of my mouth. It really hurt. Spent the day Sat and Sun doing lots of laps around the floor. Riding the elevator up to see Kathy and then back for some rest. Found that popsicles went down real easy for me, but ice water did not. Warmer water went down ok, so must have been a reaction to the cold fluid. The ride home was pretty easy and then up to bed. Today is Tuesday and we are both doing great. I have lost about 22lbs already and Kathy over 10. We are taking a couple weeks off work to just relax and take it easy. No regrets and looking forward to getting on to mush food. Liquids are boring! Good luck everyone!

We are at the 10 day point and everything is going great. Had an appointment with our Dr on Monday and he was very pleased with how both of us are doing. This morning I weighed in at 310 exactly, that is 35lbs lost since surgery day! Kathy is down 18! We are both getting our protein down without issues and drinking alot of fluids so no issues there. She has some itching around the incision sites and a little rash but not too bad. I'm doing ok on that front. We are averaging about two 1-mile walks a day. Getting out and about. Find that getting in and out of the car and doing errends wears me out quicker than walking the neighborhood. Looking forward to week 4 when I can actually start working out again!

feelin real good.
Dickson replied to Featuringcasp57's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Both my wife and I had the surgery 1 week ago today. I almost can't believe the results so far, 30lbs lost for me, she has lost about 16. Our diet is exactly the same, ok maybe I'm having a few more popcicles, but other than that the same. We are both up to a mile a day walks, this is on top of the up/down stairs and everyday moving. So yes I think guys, especially those of us who have a good amount of muscle under it all, lol have an easier time with the initial weight loss. Now to see if the long term loss is similar. I don't really expect a 30lbs / week loss that is for sure, but a healthy 5-8 / week would be good for my motivation! Will keep you informed. Great job on your loss to this point! Oh and I don't remember my PIN so I can't update my "ticker" so if anyone has a clue how to update this please let me know! -
We are both so glad we did this. Luckily for us insurance was not an issue as I am retired military and got the chance to use the facilities at Madigan Army Hosp. They were great! The Dr and all the staff really made this a very easy deal. Our drains where pulled prior to us leaving and we already have a follow up appointment for Monday of next week. Everyday we are feeling stronger and able to do more! Thanks for all the well wishes.

We are back home and doing great! Kathy went first then me. We both got up the first day and did a little shuffling (would not exactly call it walking) around. Surgery was Fri and home on Sun just as expected. Took our first shower this morning, boy did that feel good. Been doing broth, gatroraide and water, so far everything is going down ok. Popcicles are very good. Got on the scale and from the moring of surgery I have lost 23lbs already, that is crazy. Now to just keep getting our strength back. Good luck to you all, thanks for all the good thoughts.

Tomorrow is the day. Can't believe it is finally here. Been a very busy last couple weeks. Sounds like I’m a world traveler but this was not all that is was cracked up to be, was in Hawaii on business for two weeks and while there found out my brother was in the hospital in Las Vegas. I flew in to take care of him and a week later finally got him on a plane back to Seattle. I then drove his car back home and on the trip a deer ran out in front of the car. Car really got crunched and luckily I only got a face full of air bag! I got back Tuesday night very late and my pre-op was Wednesday morning. Today I’m at work picking up loose ends and then tomorrow will be at the hospital at 6am! My wife goes first and then me. At the pre-op I asked the surgeon when does he put in the 6-pack abs and he didn’t miss a beat, said they will go in during the surgery but won’t get inflated until the 6 month point! Glad to have had work and all the other distractions in my life keeping me from dwelling on this too much. And really glad to be doing this with my best friend and love of my life! So wish us luck tomorrow and for a peaceful night sleep tonight! Will let everyone know how it went when we get home. We should be out of the hospital on Sunday.

Thanks 50 after figuring out that you have to paste IN the sig block and not the blocks for uploading it went great! So that is all set, now just have to wait until the 30th and let the loss-down begin!

Hi everyone. Just about 2 weeks out from my surgery date of 30 July (just made it under the gun for the July Group!). Excited and nervous at the same time. Luckily work is keeping my mind off the surgery somewhat and for the next 9 days I'll be in Hawaii (working!) so it's not all bad. Getting my sleeve done at Madigan Army Hosp. in Washington state. Really have been impressed with the staff and the process that you go through there. While some may complain that it is overly long, I think it is good to take a decsion like this slow and to see all that is involved. Really enjoyed going to a support group meeting to be able to talk to those who have had gastric surgery and the good/bad of it all. The nutrition part was very informative as well. Looking forward to having energy again and to be able to play sports again. I have blown out my knee twice and that is what led to the weight gain to begin with. I come from a family who is large to begin with and without exercise (a lot) I have never been able to keep the weight off. So it will be good to have a tool to help get the weight down and then be able to actually workout again without so much knee and back pain! Thank you all for sharing your stories, I really find them helpful to me. Well almost time to catch the plane so for those of you getting sleeved in the next week or so I wish you the best and I will see you all when I get back (unless I can get on the hotel computer before!).

Good question, I looked in FAQ and did not see the answer there. Anyone out there want to help us? lol

Getting Sleeved on the 30th! Just under the gun for July
-
OK no offense intended here LADIES, but this is a MAN's room. I'm sure every guy who came in here totally understood what TBTROY ment when he said gag and rank in the same sentance. I find it pretty interesting how a guy asks a question in this part of the forum and 20 women are right there with the answer, be it stinking up the bathroom or how big is Mr. Winky after you lose the weight.

We went to the Dr today and we are all set for 30 July! The Dr was a little concerned about doing us both on the same day, but we asured him we had a great support network here at home. So let the countdown begin! We could have actually got in sooner but someone (Me) has to go to Hawaii in July for work...yeah I didn't think I would get too much sympathy on that one. OK we'll keep you posted on how we are holding out with the countdown to slimdown! D:lol0:
