I've taken Topomax since December 2007. All of the side effects except one will go away. And that is it's effect on carbonated beverage. The weight loss was great, but the effects of the appetite suppression was also temporary, so be aware that you will have to work at keeping the lost weight off, just like with any other weight loss. I take Topomax for headaches.

I guess diarrhea is better then constipation. My belly hurts bad enough when I just cough....I'd hate to be straining to go to the bathroom. YOUCH!! -
3 Days Post-Op and I'm Hungry!

Hi everyone, I was banded on Tuesday and I'm feeling the hunger pangs as well. I started full liquids today because yesterday I was still not feeling so hot from the gas, so I just stuck with clear fluids. Today I'm feeling much better, although I'm tired. I had an Atkins Advantage vanilla shake that I divided in half and then sipped on. That helped with the hunger. It actually tasted much better then I thought it would. Can't wait until I can add some fruit to it. don't forget that sometimes what feels like hunger pangs can actually be your body telling you it needs more Water, so make sure you are keeping up with your Fluid intake. Has anyone started having diarrhea? I started with that a few hours ago. I'm so glad there's a place to come talk to people going through the same things at the same time. :mad2:) Bobbi -

I'm Feb. 23 as well. In the beginning, it seemed so far off and now suddenly, here it is, next week. I have my final appointment Monday to go over what to expect (again!) and get my prescriptions for nausea and acid. Honestly, I'm more nervous about my reaction to the anesthesia then the aftereffects of the surgery. General anesthesia makes me sick and it seems to get worse each time I go under. The last time I was pretty miserable when they woke me us. I can't imagine vomiting after this kind of surgery, so I'm hoping the anti-nausea drugs are really good! Bobbi

Hello! I'm new and just had my 5th appointment. My final appointment is scheduled with the surgeon near the end of January and the surgery will be scheduled then. I have to wait until closer to tax time to have it so my income tax refund will pay for my portion. Of course, that's assuming my insurance agrees to cover the rest! While my BMI is only a smidge over 35, I have ALL of the co-morbidities, so my doctor isn't concerned about the insurance. I'm not nervous yet. I'm sure that will come as the time gets closer. The funny thing is, as much as I love food, I'm looking forward to freeing myself from what has become an all consuming love affair. I'm just hoping I maintain that attitude when reality sets in and the "food divorce papers" are there to be signed!!

Thank you, Jewei. I'm hoping I can come here when I need support. I'm not sure I'm going to get much at home. I'm very glad that I found this website. Things are always easier when you have other people to talk to that know what you are going through.

Hello, "plain" :w00t:) I'm not real worried about my insurance. I think that will be okay. I'm just hoping that I'm not going to be one of those that has problems with the band not working for them. I'm trying to be positive, but the last few years have been pretty rough and I'm still struggling with all the aftermath. Even though it's been difficult, I still keep putting one foot in front of the other so that I am moving forward. But some days....well...forward progress can be very hard to maintain. :rolleyes2:
