How to use FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) for work
michiganer posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've seen only a few posts about this and was hoping someone can shed a little more light on FMLA. Has anyone out there used it sucessfully? My problem is that I only have about 3 days left of vacation and sick time from work. I would like to have a full week off when I get my surgery. I was wondering how much hassle it is to get medical leave. I have worked the 1,250 hours and have been at my job 8 years. So has anyone out there actually used FMLA? Thanks! -
Need reassurance about when I will feel restriction
michiganer posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all. I am feeling a small sense of panic that I will never feel restriction. I have a 10cc band and had 6cc in it until yesterday when I had another 1 cc in it. I told the doctor that I still have not felt restriction and I can eat a lot of food without chewing no problem. I feel like a normal person. The reason I have lost this much weight is because I was stopping myself from eating too much (which I could have done without the band). The nurse said you have to train your mind to think that 5oz of food is satisfying. I don't know how to do that when I don't feel full and I am hungry. I want that 'full' feeling that you are supposed to get with the band. They said the max they will put in my band is 9cc and at 7cc I will feel it now. I am on liquids until tomorrow so I won't know for sure but I am beginning to get paranoid that my band will get to 9cc and I still won't feel it. Please reassure me!! Like many of you, I felt like the band was my last hope and if it doesn't work I don't know what I'd do. I'm down a good amount of weight but I want it to keep coming off. Please tell me you have had the same experience and that I will feel restriction soon! -
Hey all. I have had 2 fills and am going for my 3rd next week. I still haven't felt real restriction and wondered if anyone else has the same thing? I was keeping around 5oz of food but for the last few weeks I am probably eating double that with no problems. I am scared that I could be damaging the band but everything goes down really easy. I have hit a weight-standstill and have been staying the same weight for the past 3 weeks or so. Anyone else like me? Are you eating more than you are supposed to because you are hungry? Trisha

Anyone not feel restriction yet?

I do want to let you guys know that I think I am feeling some restriction! I have had a few times when I swallow some chicken (maybe I didn't chew enough) where I feel like it is having a hard time passing. It hurts going down. This is not all food, just meat and big chunks of things. I think I am the only person who is happy to get something stuck! It proves to me that restriction is on the way. I am thinking for my next fill maybe I should ask for only .50 cc intsead of the whole 1cc he usually does. Anyway, just wanted to tell you guys that I am somewhat relieved and to hang in there! -

Well, I ate some food the last two days and I don't feel restriction  Everything goes down really easy and I don't even chew that much. I kind of swallowed some big pieces just to test it. I guess I will have to keep restricting myself and I will have to wait until my next fill to hope this works... -

Thanks Minpinmom. To hear that your doctor has never had onyone full without restriction is a relief. I think that I may be getting there, just more slowly than others. The poster above you said that she wasn't restricted until 7.5 ccs. So I still have an option. I have been doing mostly liquids since my fill Monday and I have lost about 6lbs. I know it is because of the liquids but I just want to get moving. I also want to give the fill a little more time to work so I am holding off eating solids for a few more days. I will let everyone know if I am restricted when I eat. Thanks! -

I'm glad to see all the responses to my thread. I am still not feeling the restriction. I just got another fill two days ago and am at 7cc in my 10cc band. I have been on liquids for the past two days and decided to stay on for a few more days just to get a jump-start on the weight loss. I gues once I really eat a piece of chicken or something I will know for sure if I am restricted but the liquids are just sailing down! I guess 7ccs is pretty aggresive compared to what some people are getting. I will update when I eat real food again. Fingers crossed that I will finally feel it! -

Thanks for the replies. My doctor usually pulls out the saline to check the level then he puts more in. I will ask about the product you mentioned though. I guess I am just getting nervous because I am worried that the band will not be a 'tool' for me if I don't feel restriction. I will have to keep limiting myself to 5oz of food and be starving the rest if my life. I think that the band means so much to me that I get a little irrational and panicky. I guess I could be like a few other people that needed 8 cc's to get to their sweet spot. Thanks again! -

I am a little reassured that some people are having the same problem but I was hoping someone out there could tell us that this happened to them and it took more than 7cc to make them feel restricted. Did anyone have to get 8cc or 9cc in their 10cc band before they felt it? What happens if I never feel it? Is that possible? -

Jewelee-That is awesome! I am hoping my next fill will do that. Right now I'm not full for at least 10-14 oz. My Dr. said I am only supposed to eat 5oz. I asked him at the last visit it it would hurt my band if I ate more because I was still hungry and everything feels like it goes through. He said not really. I am still losing weight. Just hit the 250's today!!! 259! I can't believe it! It is so weird to see the scaled moving DOWN! Jewelee, let us know how long that fill lasts. I'm curious if it will hold for a long time...Congrats! -

Well I just got a fill after I posted this. He said I now have 6cc in the 10cc band. I think I am feeling slight restriction now but nothing like some people. I'm waiting for that moment when I eat a few bites and I KNOW I'm full. Right now, it is hard to tell. I think one more fill might do it. I'm REALLY glad to know I am not alone! -
Oh Man! That is the best NSV!! Here are mine: Able to put my shoes on without passing out My pants are almost falling off I am wearing a shirt today that I haven't worn in 7 years I can now shop at other stores besides Catherine's and the Avenue (other stores didn't go above size 28) I walk longer without gasping for air My friend hugged me and said she has never gotten her arms that far around I went for my 2nd fill and found out I lost 13 lbs since the beginning of January! Can't wait to get on that airplane and try that damn seatbelt!!

What is your Fill Level in a 10 cc AP Band?
michiganer replied to Motocrossgirly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just had my second fill today and I have a 10cc band. My first fill he put 4 cc in and he just added one more cc today. I think I feel more restriction but it is hard to tell because I am on liquids all day today and tomorrow. He said I will feel really restricted once he gets me to 6-8 cc's. Weird how my Dr. says 6-8 cc's is good and yours won't go over 4cc's... -
Feeling No restriciton and FUSTRATED!
michiganer replied to zippyz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you! I was banded on 12/04 and had my first fill on 1/4. I feel NO restriction and I am paranoid that I will overeat and slip my band! I have been keeping the food amounts low but I think I am eating more than the 5oz my Dr told me I can eat. My next fill isn't until the end of Feb and its all I can do to keep the scale from not going up. I bought a treadmill so I am going to try and use the heck out of it to get the scale moving down again. I'm glad others are going through this too. -

How much could you eat before your first fill?
michiganer replied to michiganer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to all. I knew there wouldn't be restriction until at least my first fill and maybe the first couple of fills. I just didn't know if other people were struggling with eating too much before their first fill. I feel like I went from only liquids to pureed food to eating much more than I feel like I should. I am probably only eating around a cup of food but I just worry that I will gain weight. I guess I am eager to continue losing. I have an appt with the doc on Jan 4th. Hopefully he will set me up for a fill and we can get this party started! -
How much could you eat before your first fill?
michiganer posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Dec 4th and have been really hungry. I am allowed to eat soft foods now and next week I can go to regular foods. My question is how much could you eat before your first fill? I had Christmas dinner today and ate some turkey (mushed) and some mashed potatoes. I didn't eat as much as I would have before surgery but I felt like I could have eaten more. I am afraid that I am eating too much. Did you notice that without restriction, everything goes down? Did it change dramatically after your first fill? Thanks! -
It will get better Deb, I promise. For me, I didn't feel better until almost weeks two. Other people heal much faster than I do though. None of our Chritmases will ever be the same. I just keep thinking, "I wonder what my Christmas will be like next year? I will be a different person!". I hope you heal quickly! Trisha

The only smell I noticed was with the unflavored. You should go on Unjury's website and order some sample packets. They are only about $2.00 and that way you can test different ones. I wouldn't give up so easily. Unjury is worth it.

This was one of the only recent body shots I can find. This is me on vacation in Canada in September. If you haven't figured it out, I'm the big one with the Florida shirt on lol.
-
Oh yeah, I have been having some chestr pains too but I think it is gas pains. I kind of worry about having a heart attack and not realizing it because I might think it is gas. I don't know what to say about it except that my heart was checked out before surgery and everything was good.
-
I was banded Dec 4th and I didn't feel better until almost week 2. I was surprised because I am 26 and all of these other people were saying how quickly they felt better. I finally felt like normal on Sunday and then BAM! Hit with the flu on Tuesday. Knocked me right on my butt. Went to the doc yesterday and now have antibiotics-feelin much better. I just want to feel normal again!!
-
I always make sure that whatever I put unjury in, it is only warm and not hot. If it clumps I just stir, stir, stir. A lot of the clumps will come out that way. Also, you can use your spoon to push the clumps against the side of your bowl and kind of squish them. As you do that and stir, they will disappear. That way, if you have a little patience, you haven't wasted it and you can still enjoy it.

Pain when burping-Suggestions on burping comfortably?
michiganer replied to michiganer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks to all for the responses. I am feeling less pain as I try to burp now. Probably like some of you said about healing. I still can't burp really good like I feel like I want to but that sounds normal. Thanks!
