  1. Forget about what they say. Everybody I know knows I had this surgery, I posted it on Facebook! I'm proud of it. If they have bad things to say I just flat out tell them I'm not interested in their opinion. For those that say it's the easy way out, I can't really argue with them on that. After getting over the surgery (which took only about a week) this has been a breeze! The weight just falls off and I still have small servings of dessert and eat my favorite foods. The band has made me watch my portion sizes, which has always been my problem. So, excuse my language, but f@*k them! You did this for you, so congratulations and way to go!
  2. Onenuttynurse, Yes, please give recipes! Thanks!

    Protein Powder!!??

I really like Unjury. My favorite is vanilla, but I like them all. Well, I have not tried the chicken soup flavor, sounds to gross to me.

    What is sliming???

I have been banded since May and I have slimed several times. It happens when food gets stuck at the band. It happened to me because I was not used to taking small bites and chewing enough. When you get stuck, your body produces this slimy substance that just keeps coming up. I would not call it vomit, because all that comes up is this slime - like egg whites. LOTS of it, it just keeps coming until whatever is stuck comes back up as well. It comes up about 2 or 3 tablespoons at a time, but just keeps coming. Once the stuck food comes out the episode is over and there is no pain. It does not hurt, but if you feel it start to happen you better get to a bathroom quick because there is no stopping it. The best way to avoid it is to take small bites and chew, chew, chew. That was the hardest thing for me to get used to. That is how it happened with me, anyway.
  5. I totally skipped the pureed diet. I could not do it either. I just made sure to take really small bites and chew, chew, chew. I went straight from full liquids to soft foods. I also lost weight during the pre-op diet, but didn't really lose any more until after my second fill. I've had 3 fills now, and didn't really feel restriction at all until the 3rd fill. I'm almost to my sweet spot, hoping to get one more small fill. I'm told that's all normal. I was banded on 5/17/10 and have 7.5 ccs in a 10 cc band. Hang in there, it will start coming off!
  6. 10cc band. First fill was 5ccs, 2nd fill was 2ccs, third fill was .5ccs. No fluro. I'm feeling a little restriction. Hope one more fill will take me to that sweet spot!
  7. By best friend and I both had the surgery in May. She has only had one fill, feels restriction, and has lost over 30 pounds. She has 2 ccs in a 10 cc band. I had my surgery a couple of weeks before she did. I have had 3 fills and still don't really feel restriction. I have 7.5 ccs in a 10 cc band. I do have to eat slower and chew more, but I feel I can eat just as much as I used to. If I make myself stop eating half way through the meal, though, it is enough to keep me satisfied until my next meal and I have been losing weight. I think I may ask for another .5 ccs at my next appointment. Hang it there, it will happen for you.

    Carnation Instant Breakfast?

I love the no sugar added vanilla CIB. I was banded on 5/17/10 and I still drink one every day. I have it in the morning. I put it and a scoop of Unjury vanilla protein powder into my coffee every day. I love it. The Unjury makes the drink really creamy. Mmmmmm!
  9. I can feel the food pass if I don't chew enough, in the morning when I am tighter, or after a fill.

    gas and nausea

I had horrible gas after surgery. It hurt really bad in my back and shoulders. It eventually went away. It will get better for you. Good luck!
  11. I realize this, but aren't you supposed to be full at that point? I stop eating not because I'm full but because I'm just tired of doing it and it hurts.
  12. I was banded on May 17th, and have had two fills. I now have 7ccs in a 10cc band. I have the same feeling that you have and was just going to post a question about it. The reason I don't think I'm too tight is because even though I can feel the food going down (and there is discomfort with it) I can still eat more than I think I should be able to eat. I stop eating not because I'm full, but because I'm tired of chewing so much! It takes about 20 minutes to eat a baked chicken breast. I chew, chew, chew and take small bites and do not drink when I eat or for 30 minutes after. If you find anything out, please pass it on. Good luck.

    Protein

Are you a coffee drinker? I put 1 1/2 scoops of vanilla Unjury protein powder and a no sugar added carnation instant breakfast (vanilla) in my coffee every morning. It adds up to 35 grams of protein in my coffee, and it really tastes good.

    Painful Burps

I had horrible pain from a stuck bubble of air. It was right where my ribs meet in front. Gas X is what my doc said to take. It eventually went away, but it was horrible. I use unjury Protein powder. It is a bit more expensive than most brands, but it actually tastes good. The only place I have been able to find it is online at unjury.com. I hope you feel better soon.

    I am a CHEATER

I stayed on my liquid diet, but I completely skipped the blenderized diet. I went straight from liquid to soft foods. I'm sorry, but I just couldn't do the blenderized thing. Yuk!

The band is doing it's job, but I am not....

Julie Ann, I am just starting on my journey (one month in to the 3 month doctor supervised diet required by my insurance to get approved) and I found your blog. I read it all in one sitting. You have become my inspiration!! Right now, though, you really need to focus on your daughter. I hope all goes well for your family and your daughter, and please don't give up!! {{{{big hugs}}}} Barb in KY
  18. Hi. I have BCBS of IL and they are requiring me to do a 3 month medically supervised weight loss attempt. If I follow the plan my doctor gives me, I will lose weight. My problem has always been keeping it off. So my question is this: Will losing weight make it less likeley that I get approved, or does the insurance company want to see you lose weight to see that you are committed? How does that work? I don't know if I should try really hard, or just show up to the appointments and not really try to lose weight during the three months. Have any of you had any experience with that?

? about doc supervisied diet results

Thanks for your replies. I had my first appointment for the diet yesterday. The doc put me on a 2000 calorie diet and told me to exercise 3 times a week. I can live with that. Good luck everybody!
