    smoking

I was a smoker up until about 2 weeks before my surgery. I randomly just told myself to finish my pack and quit it. I had a few left and I haven't picked up a cigarette since then. Surprisingly enough the day after they called and gave me my surgery date, it was meant to be. I just decided that if I'm going to have lap band surgery I might as well quit smoking too, this is about making ourselves healthy all around. Good luck with quitting!!

    body piercings

For this surgery I didn't have any body piercings to worry about but I was told to take them all out before surgery. I wouldn't recommend keeping your tongue piercing in, I feel like that might get in the way of the tube down your throat. I remember when I had surgery a few years ago I had my tongue pierced and I took it out for the day and over night and it never closed. I would think if you had it for a while (I was 23 at the time of that surgery and I've had my tongue pierced since I was 17) that it won't close over night.
  6. My advice is to set mini goals. I'm noticing on the "Post Operation" side they have mini goals that seem fun and it might be easier to handle and also might cause less frustration! I know what you are going through though but just remember as long as our numbers are going down we're heading in the right direction!! Good luck with everything.

    Rescheduled my surgery date.

Hi Paula! I am feeling GREAT! I was having some minor shoulder gas pain but that's gone and some port site soreness but honestly as of right now that's pretty much gone as well. I had surgery on a Tuesday and I could of gone back to work by Monday but my surgeon made me wait until the following Monday (I really wasn't complaining). Hope that helped :-)

    I am so nervous......

First off good luck to all of you getting banded this week!! How exciting. I remember how I felt the day before my surgery and I was NERVOUS as hell. I am going to be banded 3 weeks tomorrow and honestly I haven't regretted it one day so far! It definitely sounds like you are doing this for all the right reasons and it's just nerves that you're feeling. When I walked into the operating room the morning of my surgery I'm not going to lie, I was going make a run for it but I didn't and I'm glad I didn't. Just like some previous posters said, read some success stories, check out youtube videos and think about how different your life is going to a year from now. Again good luck!!!
  11. I had to stay over night. I actually never got a room I was in recovery all night (was supposed to be in ICU because of my sleep apnea but there were no beds so I got stuck in recovery all night). I guess I was there about 24 hours and even though I could of gone home the day of surgery I was glad to be in the hospital. I hope your doctor can figure something out (I'm sure he will). Good luck and keep us posted.
  12. When I went back for my seminar and education glass back in Sept. 09 they told us to start making healthier choices. I'm not going to lie to you, I did not. I started my liquid diet cold turkey and it was HARD. I would recommend anyone to start making wiser choices as soon as they decide to go for surgery just so it's not so stressful when you have to go on your liquid diet.

    Pills and Lap Band

I would defintely start asking your doctors now if they can switch any of your pills to liquid. If not as long as they aren't time released you can crush them and get them down. I take synthroid and my surgeon gave me the ok to take that whole (it's real tiny). My pain pills I had to cut and my vitamins are all chewable.

    Lung Doctor Visit

I think it's because a lot of over weight people have sleep apnea and some surgeons make their patients wake up on their machines. Not sure why but I know my surgeon said there was a possibility that one I'd either wake up with the tube down my throw still or I'd wake up on my cpap. No need to panic either way though, it's just a precaution.
  16. Keeping my fingers crossed that you don't have to go back!
  17. Tomorrow is your big and CONGRATS and of course good luck!!! I was stuck on chicken and beef broth until just last week now I am on my mushy phase. Sorry I couldn't help more!

  23. Yayyy for not being bitchy!!! loll
  24. Wow....I can't even imagine the doctor I went to saying stuff like that! She was more worried about my mental state than letting me know what I can and can't do, that's what my surgeon and nutritionist is for. Anyway good luck to you!!! Hope it all works out.
