Well I'm banded. I had my surgery on Friday at 7:30 am. I spent Friday night in the hospital due to the repair of a hiatal hernia. I am so glad that I stayed though, IV morphine is a wonderful thing. Came home yesterday and still feel sore, but the gas pain is so much better (don't remember this much with my lap gall bladder surgery in July). I thought I was having a heart attack on Friday afternoon. I am so lucky to have my wonderful husband taking care of me, he makes sure that I get my meds on time and is making me great food (if you can call turkey broth food). I am glad that I took the time to make homemade turkey carcass broth before my surgery date. The broth in the hospital tasted like it had been wrung out of a dirty dish rag. Hope everyone is doing well and good luck to those still waiting.

I had my pre-op today and the good news is that even though I haven't lost the full 15 pounds (15% of my body weight) that I was told to lose I am still a go for surgery on Friday Dec. 18. I lost 10 pounds and the bariatric nurse told me that as long as I lost 2/3 of the weight recommended that I was ok. Have to stay low carb with no cheating to make sure that my liver doesn't re-enlarge before Friday. Yippee!!! Good luck to everyone this week, can't wait until Friday!

Sticks - You and I have our pre-op and surgery on the same days. I'm nervous about the liver shrinking thing too. My doc has me on a low carb diet and I lost really fast the first week, but now it seems that I'm stalled. I have a call into my docs office and I'm just waiting to talk to the nurse. What pre-op diet are you on?

Thanks for the info Swan. The only reason that I have the Atkins shake is that I can't eat anything when I first get up but by the time I get to school I'm starving. I used to bring a granola bar and yogurt but those are out for now. I have been eating eggs and lots of salads (no green beans as they are on the do not eat list) and low carb salad dressing. I have been reading the labels of everything to check the carb amounts. I haven't been going really crazy on the cheese and I do slice it myself. I love veggies so the salads and steamed ones have been good and I do tend to eat alot of meat. I think I'm going to call the Dr.'s office tomorrow and talk to the bariatric nurse just to be on the safe side. I hope this helps since my pre-op weigh in is on Tuesday and surgery is on Friday.

The three pages of info that I got from my doctor said that I need to stay below 40g of carbs per day. I can have lean meat, cheese, and certain veggies. The veggies have to be counted as carbs (1/2 cup cooked & 1 cup raw = 5 g). I am not allowed any fruits, carbonated beverages (not a problem) and all starches. I usually start off my day with an Atkins low carb shake (4g carbs per drink). Then because I am in school, I bring snacks like sliced cheese, pickles (allowed) and beef jerky (I know the beef jerky has carbs but I count the 5g per ounce). I also am allowed Diet Snapple (0g, 0 cal). When I get home (depending on the time), I have a portion of lean meat (from dinner the night before) and a small salad (counted) or some steamed veggies with Smart Balance. For dinner I have about the same thing as for lunch. I have been counting all the carbs and I have always been under 40g each day. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I am so frustrated. I have been on my low carb (Atkins style) diet since Dec. 1. My doc requires that I lose 5% of my body weight (15 lbs) before my surgery. I started the diet on the day they recommended and have been entirely faithful to it and have even gotten around to talking a couple walks with the dogs for exercise. On the fourth day of the diet, I had already dropped 4 pounds and I was so excited and it just seemed to get better every day, but now I am stalled at 284 (8 pounds lost). My other problem is that I was weighed at my doctors on Nov. 16 and came in at 298. When I weighed myself at home on the day I started my diet I was 292. So now I have to figure out if my scale is not the same as the doctor's (which is probably the case) or if I miraculously lost 6 pounds without even trying. I would hate to go to my pre-op weigh in and find out that I haven't lost enough. Sorry this is so long but it's been a rough week and I just needed to vent.

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I am also getting banded in December on the 18th. I have my pre-op on Dec. 15. I am on day 6 of my pre-op Atkins diet and I've lost 6 pounds. I have to lose 15 before surgery. Hope all the newly banded are doing well and just wanted to wish everyone good luck.
