    October 2006 Bandsters!

Hi everyone. How did you feel after the surgery on the way home. My mom is going to come with me during my procedure. Since she doesn't drive & its in downtown Chicago - i figured we'd take the el and then a cab there and then just flip it on the way home. My mother thinks I'm crazy and that there is no way I'm going to be up to the motion of the train. Any thoughts?

how often do you weigh yourself?

i've become a daily weigher. sometimes when I know I shouldn't do this everyday becuz I'm obsessing, I get on the scale before I put my contacts on. I'm blind as a bat without them so I can't read the number. But i know that I got on the scale. =)
  6. Hi everyone. I feel like I'm losing my mind!! I am done with week one of my liquid diet and did ok except for my cheese incident and now I have 7 days til banding. Just 7 days and I am seriously not getting any work done because all I can think about is how I'm probly not going to enjoy bread again and I just want a bagel!! Did anyone else feel like the week before was harder? Am i just being a quak? sonia

    packing it all up?

Hapy Friday all! So I finished my Soup dinner and started looking at the pantry and the cabinets. The next thing I knew, I had gotten a tote from the garage and packed up the toaster, bread machine, coffee maker and popcorn maker that i never used anyway. Then I grabbed a bag and started a bag for my brother - the brownie and cake mixes, Cookies (wonder if my husband was still eating those?) and anything else and into the car that went. Now I'm going to pack up some other stuff and see what else I can get out of sight. Any one find this helpful? :nervous Sonia

    I just want a Bagel!!!!

Thanks for the reassurance! It was weird. I got up this morniong and hopped on the scale and the need for the bagel went away! It's finally all clicked that I am just 6 days away.
  9. Hi everyone So i need to get my act together and start planning my new life exercise routine. But I HATE the cold weather! I'm such a wimp. What have others found? Do you buy the thermal clothing and get your self out there? Do you get the gym membership? Do you use the walk away the pounds dvd? Any advise would be wonderful! sonia

Can you suggest WLS Books to read?

I bought "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: Over 140 Delicious Low-Fat, High-Protein Recipes to Enjoy in the Weeks, Months and Years after Surgery " - I've only flipped through it but it has receipes then on the side of the recipe it says lapband: week 1 - puree 1/2 cup... week blah blah sounds like it'll be helpful. I also am getting "Before and After: Living and Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery " in this protein pack of goodies i ordered but i won't have that til tonight. Since I'm not getting any work done - I went to amazon and searched for books on "weight loss surgery" - they have quite a few. Even a WLS for dummies! Is there a - for dummies book for everything? =) There even looks like there's a magazine you can subscribe to - WLS Lifestyles: Weight Loss Surgery Lifestyles.
  11. Happy Monday all. So there I was last night - ready to call it a day and was prepping my lunch and bag of sugarfreeness for work today. Since I was on vacation last week I was able to start my liquid diet without having to be at work and surrounded by the coworkers that graze all day. Anyway, my stomach was growling and I couldn't have anymore SF Jello and didn't want a popsicle - so instead of walking away I grabbed a slice of cheese. Then i lied in bed kicking myself for blowing the liquids already. At least I have the next 10 days to get back on track. And I knew if I posted it then I had to admit it to myself. And being on liquids at work has been surprising easier than I thought. My coworkers are all on board and supportive (and hiding the candy.) Now off to buy some SF popsicles to keep in the freezer. =) thanks for listening to me babble! i love this board. sonis

what kind of Broth do I buy?

i don't care for the campbell's chicekn broth (maybe cuz I bought the low-sodium). But dominck's has their Organic soup in a box and i like their vegatarian vegatable. I add some rosemary seasoning and it helps.
  13. i'm glad i'm not alone! =) i had clients in today and as they ate there sandwhiches, chips and cookie - I ate my soup. And i didn't steal a cookie and run screaming out of the building to eat in the car like I dreamt i would. i'm having a strained cream soup instead of the broth for 1 meal lately and i think that helps... it atleast feels like food.
  14. Hi Everyone? Are there things you do to get through the rough days? Works a nightmare today and I am just ready to kill and eat real food. I just seem to be really short today - too much to do and I dont have time to keep getting up to get rid of all this Water :embarassed: so thats making me more aggitated. Doesn't help that I never tried this campbell's lowsodium chicken broth and I don't care much for it. But i have to get at least half of it down becuase I know I don't have anough sugarfree Jello to get me through the afternoon if I skip it. Maybe I'm just being a baby or need to go for a stroll in the parking lot. Thanks!
  15. I was wondering around CVS getting some supplies - heating pad, gas x, chewable Vitamins.... and I saw as I was checking out they had sugar free hard candy. there was no sugar and 50 calories for 3 peices. Anyone tried these? Are they a no-no? Im not a gum chewer and if I can suck on one during my night class or long commute home, i think it help control my need to be chewing on something. or maybe sugar free mints?? Any thoughts? I figure it was only 50 cents so i'm not out alot if they need to go into the "give awayto the family bag of food" thanks! Sonia
  16. happy Sunday all! Jogging- need help!

I've always figured I would run ... when a big hungry dog was chasing me. Even with that I think I'd let the dog have me. But now with reading all of these posts and getting myself prepared for my weightloss journey - I can't wait to try jogging and even bike riding. I love the couch-to-5k info on the coolrunnings website. I never got past week 2 but that was before... One of my goals is to do one of the Iron Girl events in 2007. www.irongirl.com Maybe not the duathon in Minnesota in September but a december AZ vacation for the 10K in Tempe would be FANTASTIC!! Sonia

I'm a Card program Specialist. We do card personalization for debit, atm and gift cards. So basically when you call to yel at your bank for your debit card no longer working - the bank called me. I'm trying to get out and into the non-profit sector. Not sure doing what but something that has a little more substance than - Geee fed Ex didn't deliver your gift card cuz you put in a bad address... =)
  20. I ordered it. Even splurged for the 3 day shiping!! Thanks for the input!

    Sugar Free Hard Candy?

Thanks you! After reading your post I remembered a BAD BAD experience with the SF Russel Stovers chocolates a few years ago. I will definitely take this slow!
  22. Howdy! I'm getting by band by the MIBC (renamed day One health) in chicago too on 10/26 by Dr Jonathan Myers. I have a family member who works there so i was able to get some insider information on the center and staff before going there. The staff has been so wonderful and helpful. I even love their new website. It helped give a little more info to my aprehnsive hubby. http://www.dayonehealth.com Sonia

    Caffeine?

i stopped drinking lots of coffee a few months ago only because my stupid coffee pot would spill more coffee n the counter than into the cup and I couldn't be bothered with replacing it. Now that its starting to get cooler all i want is coffee with lots of cream and sugar. But what I've actually found in its place are the General Fod International coffees. I have a vanilla cafe (?) thats No Sugar, No caffene! I love it and I don;t miss the "real" coffee feeling.
  24. hi everyone! so i met with the nutritionist today and start my liquid diet today. the "grocery list" ddnt really mention anything about adding any Protein. should i wait on adding protein powders? Anyone else run into this? sonia

    Protein? During preop?

i was told to go sugar free as much as I can and look at the nutritional info and make sure the sugar is low and have the Slim fast optima... but the optima have more sugar than the slim fast high protein... i wanted to call the nutritionalist while I was at the grocery store. I also checked out the atkins shakes and they had less calories and sugar than the SF. I bought a box of each and cut out the nutritional info. I figure I'll email the patient advocate and see what she thinks....
