has anyone had a lapband fitted on the nhs
Mastiff Mum replied to natty13's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had mine done on NHS at Derby too! Are you waiting forever for a fill aswell Steve? It's been 7 months since my last one and finally after months of badgering them, I have a date for the end of this month. -
Hi, I have 7ml in a 10ml band and still hardly any restriction, so you are not alone! And the rumbly tummy.......well thats another story! I am not just talking the usual tummy sounds of gurgling etc, I mean full blown growling that hurts cos I am so ravenous. And I am 16 months post op. I am in the UK and had my surgery done on the NHS so I have to wait for a fill when they can fit me in, which takes them forever. I have had two fills and am finally having another at the end of the month, after 5 months of sending emails. The one thing I did find though was that the little bit of restriction I do have kicked in after a couple of weeks. Good luck, you look fantastic!

I remember (whilst doing another slimming plan) that there was a 'Wendy Plan' or something like that. There was a lady (called Wendy, obviously!!) that had been doing WW for a long time and kept hitting long plateaus. So what she decided to do was to vary her points throughout the week. So what you would do is multiply your daily allowance of points by seven and then do a different amount each day. so for example 27 points X 7 = 189 for the week. So monday you would have 30, tuesday 24, wednesday 28, thursday 25, friday 23, saturday 34 (for weekend treats) sunday 25. If my maths is correct this adds up to 189. The idea is that your body is working harder as it has a different calorific intake each day and therefore does not become complacement which makes you plateau. When I done Slimming World (UK only plan) I was allowed 15 syns a day, whenever I got stuck I just varied my syns each day, sometimes only having 2 or 3 and it always kicked started the loss again. Hope this helps. Wendy used to have a website, but I am not sure if it is still running now, maybe a google search?

Hi fellow bandsters, I haven't posted for a while, but have been popping in to catch up now and again. Anyway I have a kind of strange question, not a very nice one, I'm afraid. Apart from PB'ing, has anyone actually thrown up? This is probably one of my biggest fears in case I damage my stomach. The thing is, I work in a care home and a year ago, just before I had my op, there was an outbreak of D & V in the home and needless to say, I was a very poorly bunny and it was proberbly the worst sickness I have ever had as the throwing up was so violent. I work in the office and do not have direct contact with the Residents, but these things are airbourne and unavoidable. (as I sit here with yet ANOTHER cold!) Anyone had experience of this? Thanks Mastiff Mum

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on my missing saline!!?? I went for my second fill yesterday, at long last, only to find that my previous fill of 6 ml (I have a 10 ml VG band) was greatly reduced. Doctor extracted the band to check the amount and only 3 ml came out. When I asked what had happened to the other 3, the only answer I got was "it's probably hiding in a corner" !!! well, I didn't know that a round band actually had any corners! I have read of this happening with other people but I cannot seem to find the postings about this. Can someone please help? I am sure it doesn't necessarily mean I have a leak, but I am rather curious as to where it has gone. Anyway doc put 5 ml back in and after me nagging he put in another 2 ml. So according to my records I have 7 ml in total, but could it be more? He wouldn't put any more in, I was determined to come away with 8 ml, I just have this feeling it isn't gonna work. (ever the optimist!) Well first day after having this fill and I have been hungry all day. I mean stomach rumbling, no, growling at me. I don't just mean the gurgling noises ones tummy makes when doing it's stuff, I mean real hunger pangs. This is another strange thing for me........how did I know that I was hungry pre-op? well my stomach rumbled loads and my head said 'time to eat'. now my stomach is rumbling even though I have just eaten, in fact it just hasn't stopped all day. It's like having two stomachs....... I must be a cow ! Please, please someone help me, feeling rather a confused failure at the moment LOL

I am over 9 months post op and I still experience little 'twitches'. For the first few weeks post op I couldn't dry my left leg after getting out of the shower as it pinched when I bent over. Unless the pain is really quite bad, I would put it down to the fact that you have a foreign object inside your body so there is bound to be the odd time where it feels uncomfortable. But of course if it is too bad there could be an infection. Redness of the skin in that area would be a sign.

A great big hello from the UK. My name is Kim and I live in a little village in the UK called Pinchbeck, used to live near London, but the smog was choking me! I am due to be banded some time during October and am just waiting for confirmation of my date. It is being done in Derby via the NHS and I am starting to get nervous and excited and apprehensive and all sort of emotions I expect most of you have been through. But what I am looking forward to is starting my journey with my new best friend, my band, which will be holding my hand every step of the way. Normally the NHS won't consider anyone that has a BMI under 40 (mine is around 37/38) but I have so many medical problems that they have agreed to go ahead with the band. I am Type 2 diabetic, but currently waiting for an emergency appointment with the specialist as my sugar levels have been excessively high so they are putting me on insulin BOOOOOO !! So the list is.....I now have Type 1 diabetes, PCOS, high blood pressure, high cholesterol (but cannot tolerate any medication for it) gastric something-or-other (stomach acid) & occasional bouts of asthma. After taking my pills in the morning, I rattle! So I am hoping to become much healthier by reducing my blood pressure & cholesterol and go back to medication rather than injections for my diabetes, who knows, maybe I can get rid of it all together, although I think that is wishful thinking. And of course being slimmer is a great big bonus which I think, as vain as it sounds, is probably the most important factor for me as I have battled my weight since I was 7 or 8 and the plain and simple fact is I will never accept myself being big. I admire those people that are what they are and are happy with it, I am not one of those people and constantly stress over my weight, which I'm sure most of you can relate to. So slim & healthy I will be and I was hoping to make some other friends to hold my hand too! Well, I rattled on for long enough, bye for now and I hope to chat to some of you soon Mastiff Mum

Big Hello from the UK
Mastiff Mum replied to Mastiff Mum's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you all for your warm welcomes, I certainly will keep you posted, right from the wonderful pre-op diet through to my mushies! And yes, Susan, I own an English Mastiff and a Neapolitan Mastiff, my two beautiful babies, the biggest weighing 140 pounds thinks she's a little lap dog! Is there anywhere we can post pictures on here, I'd like to do one of myself and of my woofers, if that would be ok?
