Does anyone own a Fitbit?
jaxmom replied to haveyoumetalexx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a Jawbone Up and I LOVE it. I've worn a lot of other trackers (Fitbit, Nike, garmin) and I just love the interface. I also have an Apple Watch that tracks for me but I still wear the Jawbone. My favorite feature is the alarm that you can set to remind you to move. I have mine set for every 15 minutes. If I'm still for that amount of time my band gently vibrates and that's my cue to get up and move! It's very easy to add and track food and specific types of exercise. The sleep tracking part has really helped me- I was sleepwalking and my band showed a pattern of what time I was getting up and for how long. Now if I can only figure out where I have been going all those nights... Best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
So today I put my kayak in. I paddled through mangroves and popped out in Biscayne Bay. I floated, ate my hummus and read Dave Barry. It was heaven. It's something I've been looking forward to all winter and felt awesome now that I'm down a few pounds. I will have to pick up a seat cushion though because ouch!! Some of my padding is apparently gone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
jaxmom replied to psvzum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow you are still pushing this article, huh? The members here are intelligent people. If people chose to read the attachment they will. No need to plaster it all over the thread. I guess you won't accept what most members are saying: Do what is best for you. Everyone has a different relationship with the scale. End of story move on. Hooray!!! I'm back on my bike and it feels awesome!! I rode around for 3 hours today in the Miami Heat and humidity and am alive to post it! There are millions of mangos down here and I have become a pro at "accidentally" dropping my hat in people's yards (the best ones are always there) and when i retrieve my hat there is always a mango or two in it. It's magic I'm telling you! I'm so glad I had this surgery. What a gift to my knees and my overall well being. Hope everyone else is having a similar journey with their favorite sport and fruit. Oh another bonus of being able to move faster... These guys seem to pop up a lot. That's south Florida for you! Oh and that whole thing about "they are more afraid of us than we are of them" is a LIE. This big guy enjoyed having his picture taken. I think he's posing. He definitely didn't move! Mine isn't proper. She's ancient and but I love her. Her name is Princess Otter and we have been so many places together I can't let go. Kayaking is awesome- there is something very therapeutic about bobbing around, watching the world float by. I'm pretty sure these guys were laughing at me doing absolutely nothing in their backyard. Ok ladies I found something that helps in the meantime- it's a root spray by Rita Hazen I think? I'm only 44 but have been gray for years and have to touch up my roots every few weeks (actually my hubby does it but I'm not allowed to ever tell anyone so shhhhhh). The root spray bonds to hair and doesn't budge. I put it in when hair is damp and covers my "sparkles". The bonus is it makes my hair look thicker on top! There is a root powder I got at Target that works just as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Gastric band/gastric sleeve
jaxmom replied to anna81's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I had my band for 6 years before it broke. I was upset but my doctor assured me it was no problem- he would remove the band and create a sleeve. His did it in one procedure and I love the sleeve. I had a super quick recovery and have more energy and enthusiasm than I have had in years. If you have any specific questions just ask! You can always PM me if you prefer. Good luck and take care. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Woah. You know the guy was born in NY and lived in Florida most of his life, right? What a horrible, dangerous statement to make. I also noticed you quote Einstein EVERY TIME YOU POST. How ironic you feel the way you do about people coming into our country when the man you respect was a Jewish man born in Germany. What if we had blocked HIM from coming to the states??? Your attitude makes me physically ill. And keep your voting suggestions to yourself. Not necessary on this forum, period. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I don't know about the surgery timeline for you but staying hydrated is important. At first it it's a bit tough but you get used to sipping all day pretty quickly. Some people have suggested setting timers on your phone to remind you to hydrate or setting up cups as a visual cue. Yes your stomach is much smaller but Water passes right through no problem (after the initial swelling goes down). As for drinking during meals it's a no no. You want to eat dense Protein to give you a "full" feeling and drinking washes the food away. It can also be considered "cheating your sleeve". I had a hard time with not drinking during meals at first (I love Unsweet iced tea) and solved problem by not putting my glass on the table. Easy peasy. I hope your surgery date comes through quickly. I had a super quick recovery and was ready (I still am!) to take on the world with energy and enthusiasm. If you have any other questions just ask! :) Keep us posted and take care. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So everyone please, stop the banter, the bad talk, the arguing and GO BUY MANGO!!!! I do not work for Trader Joes. Actually, I'm looking for a jobby job. I want to be the person who names nail polish. Groovy Green, Summer in Siesta Key, Lilacs in Lamont, I'm an endless font of possibilities! Please contact of you have an opening. (Btw.... Shhhhhhhh....... Those weren't my best name ideas .... But I'm drinking w-I-n-e and may be off my rocking naming game shhhhhhhhhhhh) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Me too! I just did a Trader Joes run and they have mango coconut caramel corn. I almost cried when I saw it. Yes I know this is off topic, but conflict makes me nervous and I babble when nervous. I met a family of ducks today at the University of Miami campus they weren't old enough to drink beer so I bought them a box of Cereal which they really enjoyed its raining here wow thunder and lightning palm trees swaying now the dog is scared maybe a bone will help has anyone ever tried a lychee they are awesome but so expensive the guy wanted 28 bucks for a big bag so we went with the smaller one Ok.... Is it over? If not look at the duckie picture and smile smile smile! :) ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1465671082.408363.jpg Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was just at Trader Joe's this morning where they were giving out samples of the mango coconut popcorn. It was a little cup of magic. Oh my goodness. Bites of bliss. I didn't buy a bag of it precisely because I knew I'd be tempted to eat the whole bag. We did get the mango bar bites and the mango macarons for treats because both are fairly reasonable with their calories, fat, and carbs. The macarons have 15 carbs per serving, but that's for three pretty macarons. My favorite purchase from the TJ mango mania is a mango tangerine candle. I think it was around $3, and it smells precisely like the Blue Capri Volcano candle at Anthropologie that is $14 for the exact same size. I'm burning it right now, and it's brightening up this day of "June Gloom." I find that delighting other senses helps me to not overindulge in things that make my taste buds sing. Hmmm. I was thinking of making a thread about favorite TJ buys. Maybe I'll go do that now. I love the pic of the ducks. WHAT? There is a candle????? Running out door NOW! Ooooooo please start the TJ thread! I'm kinda afraid where to post it (gulp) because it may have been asked before. Heh. I'm. So. Just. Kidding. I wish you all love each other as much as I love you. You are the family I never really had. Some good, some a bit naughty, I learn from everyone. You make me smile. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You spoke of eating mangos in the tub. I'm down in Miami and they are EVERYWHERE. My daughter rides her bike and collects them. This morning she had 22 before she got to the end of the street. I'm going to be good and have a mango Protein smoothie. She will enjoy this... (She's a smart kid who understands moderation. She must have gotten that from her father. I just spit iced tea out of my nose. It's was Moroccan mint and now my nose burns. I LOVE that you stored a baby bel cheese in your handy dandy carrier. I love it so much I'm going to run to the store, buy cheese and pop one in. I have laughing cow mini wedges but I don't feel they will be as fun. Btw I am always super conscious of handing someone b-o-o-b money because I TOTALLY get it. Heck I have to spell the word out because I'm kinda a prude. :) Goodness this is fun. We should form some kind of club for women who do this. Christinamo you started the fun, you choose our club name! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I completely get what you are saying and you said it very well. I do just want to say this as a newbie.... It took me several weeks to find the different threads- I view this site from my iPhone and always clicked timeline. I think it's how I wound up responding to a picture you had posted- it was wonderful and so motivational but I almost died a few days later when I realized it was posted on a guys thread! Ahhhh!!! I finally figured out that different sections because people mentioned them in their posts (for example since this is the rant and rave section I will post this rant here) and a lightbulb went off. Until then I probably was guilty of asking basic questions because I simply didn't know separate sections existed. For the most part I have found the advice of veterans to be amazing. I see them as true educators and admire the time they spend responding to specifics. If I don't agree with something I just skip it. My biggest pet peeve is when someone just says "Ask your Nut". I could go on about that for several reasons but it's another topic. I'm not on any other social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) so I'm still learning how to navigate the online community. Some days are harder than others but I'm learning every day! Btw BigViffer I really enjoy it when you do post. Your transformation and attitude are great. I love how the men support each other. Keep posting and take care! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
