I haven't had much time to journal lately. Things are going okay with the band except I am hungry a lot and think about food all the time. Hopefully when I get my first fill that will help. I was starting to think that I didn't have ANY restriction because I was so HUNGRY! Well, I went out to eat with my family Thursday night. I ate 2 pieces of fish, 5 french fries, 1 of my daughter's chicken strips and was full. When I got home I was in PAIN! That night I had to go to sleep sitting up! So I guess I must have some restriction even without the fill! That was a hard learned lesson, so now I'm more careful not to overeat!!! Of course I am one of those people who expect to lose FAST when I give up my yummies! I have to be more patient! I've been exercising 5 days a week. Mostly walking. I ride my exercise bike sometimes. Today I rode my mountain bike it was so nice out. I have a couple of videos I want to try to start doing soon. Man I miss my cigs and my pop!!! And chocolate, and chips, and cookies............. Okay snap out of it woman!!! I CAN DO THIS!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Thank you!!!:girl_hug:

I'm still not listed, please add me.

Absolutely!!! Being fat is UNHEALTHY!!! Not being able to do the things I want because of my weight and health is what caused me to be banded, not the way I look. Looking better is just a BONUS, being HEALTHIER is the goal. I want to be around for my kids as long as I can, and losing weight will help.

Anyone know of any low cal, low fat crackers?
-
Please add me to the list for the 25lbs by Dec 25th challenge. I need the motivation!!!

Congrats Larry! It's normal to be sore a few days. As much as it may hurt, try to walk to prevent blood clots. Liquid tylenol helps. The pain won't last too long, hang in there!

I am so glad the journals are back on! Well, went for my first post op. appt. yesterday. Doc says everything looks good. Allowed to go on mushies. Had some refried beans at taco bell because my pals were hungry so we stopped. Those went down good even though I'm not a big fan. Today I haven't eaten anything except some soup. Might try scrambled eggs later. Going back to work Monday (yee ha). Down 14lbs. yesterday at dr. he said that has been the average for people's first post op. I go back in a couple of weeks. Not sure if I'll get a fill then or what. Got a new dog Wed. Her name is Holly and she's a 1 1/2 year yellow lab. Owner was moving and can't keep her. So far she's has been really good. Took her for a mile walk the other day. It's been raining off and on all week. I'm hoping to go again tonight. Hopefully it won't start raining again. Everyone I know is cofused, they keep thinking I had the RNY. Have to keep explaining. Not looking forward to all the busy bodies at work asking questions Monday. It's a regular Peyton place there. We've had people at work have the RNY and they lose weight FAST. They will probably expect me to do the same. Oh well, I"ll do what I can. The main thing is to get healthier.

I had to have my gallbladder removed about 4 years ago before I ever heard of the band. Don't let that hold you up. -

I was actually supposed to have a RNY but after my dr did a scope on my stomach he recommended the band. I have a lot of problems with my stomach and may need future scopes. Having the RNY would make it really difficult to look at the entire stomach in the future due to the fact that most of the stomach is cut off and sewed up. I know a lot of people who had the RNY and do great but a few years later put a lot of the weight back on. Out of the 5 people I know 3 have put the weight back on. Also 2 of the people were very ill afterward, but are ok now. I don't know anyone personally who had the band. I'm glad I had the band because it is reversible. I pray that I don't have complications but am aware of the possibilty. You definetly don't lose weight as fast and easy with the band because everything you eat you absorb all the calories unlike the RNY. You have to do what you feel is right and listen to your dr. -
Help! Hungry and not losing! Not filled yet....
lamamama replied to drcollier's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too was posted 9/11 and am going through the same thing. I am still on liquids and somehow gained a pound. Plus I am walking a mile almost every day. I guess I figured the weight would come off faster. I mean compared to what I used to eat and what I eat (drink) now! I am hungry too. But if I am not losing anymore on liquids what will happen when I start eating solids?! Maybe it's our body in starvation mode. How do we speed up our metabolism? Discouraged. I'm glad I've lost what I did but come on. Impatient. :phanvan -

Welcome Kimmi, I agree with Susan, most if not all of us had second (and third, and fourth etc.) thoughts about this surgery. It's perfectly normal to feel like you're on an emotional rollercoaster. It's a big decision and only you can make it. The best advice that I can give you is to educate yourself as much as you can. Listen to your doctor. And don't beat yourself up about failing past diets. Food is addictive. Food is always there for you (when you have a bad day, break up, are pmsing, you get the drift). And unlike other addictions you can't just quit cold turkey for the rest of your life. You have to have some sort of food to survive, the trick is to know when enough is enough. That is what the band is for. I am new on this journey. But I know that at least I am trying to be healthier, we have to give ourselves credit for that. Good luck and keep reading. There are a lot of good people here that are just like you.

Question for those who've had their gallbladder removed
lamamama replied to Malice X Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my gall bladder removed in 2001. Just small incisions (lap) and they pulled it out of my belly button.. Anyway I was off work 2 weeks. The same surgeon did this that did my band. I couldn't lift, pull, or push anything over 15 lbs. (same thing as now) for 2 weeks. I felt pretty good a week after. If it wasn't for the lifting I could of went back to work then. The recovery from that surgery is similar to the band as far as pain and gas. Except you don't have the port pain. Good Luck! -

I finally found a Protein shake that tastes pretty good. A pal of mine that had gastric bypass gave me this recipe. 1/3 Cup Designer whey Protein powder (Vanilla) 8 ounces skim milk 1/2 Cup strawberry Yogurt (Carb and Sugar Control) 1/2 banana optional Blend together to desired thickness 38 g protein total I tried this today and it's very, very good. I got the box of Designer Whey protein powder at walmart for $19.95 (46 servings!) This also carry it at Rite Aid and GNC but it costs more. They also have chocolate and strawberry. Also, I was told not to pull off the sterile strips over my incisions, it's been a week and only 2 have come off. I keep washing them but they aren't falling off. Any advice?
