January 15th Bansters??
Nancy6015 replied to mandyfsc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, I just got the call from the hospital. I have to be there at 6 a.m., so I'll have to get to sleep early ... as if I'll be able to sleep at all tonight. -
What test did your doc require pre op?
Nancy6015 replied to sheryl2009's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My insurance, BCBS of Michigan, required no testing at all. My surgeon required some bloodwork, a psych evaluation, a meeting with the nutritionist, and surgical clearance from my cardiologist. -
I am scheduled on January 6th; I am on day 6 of my pre-op liquid plan. Christmas Day was a close call, but I made it through. I, too, am getting nervous, it's to be expected. This will all be so worth it in the end.

It appears that everyone is doing excptionally well. That's wonderful. I started my 2 week, pre-op liquid plan today ... January 6th cannot come soon enough! Merry Christmas, all, be safe and happy.

Northern Mist... Perhaps Dr. Nizzi is involved in the research U of M bariatric clinic is conducting. I understand that many hospitals in Michigan are participating. Were you asked to join a ten-year study? Take care and have great results.

UNJURY seems to be highly recommended. The pre-op plan from my Dr. uses it. My daily meal plan is 1000 cals, 115 grams protein, 125 grams carbs spread over 6 feedings. 1) 1 serving flavored Unjury with skim milk + 1/2 cup cream of wheat or oatmeal + 1 cup V-8 or tomato juice 2) 1 cup sf pudding (1 serving of unflavored Unjury can be added) 3) 1 serving unflavored Unjury mixed with 8 oz Crystal Light + 6 oz Dannon Light n Fit 4) 1 serving sf Jell-O with or without Unjury added 5) 1 serving Unjury chicken soup flavor + 1 up V-8 or tomato juice + 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce 6) 1) 1 serving flavored Unjury with skim milk + 6 oz Dannon Light n Fit

Hello, all... I just recently found 60+ and I plan to be hanging around for quite a while. You have all had remarkable progress ... Congratulations! My surgery is scheduled for January 6th at the University of Michigan Hospital. I'm excited and anxious at the same time ... probably pretty typical. I will be seeing the bariatric clinic's nutritionist next week and will start the 2 week liquid diet on the 23rd. I know I'll be smack in the middle of the holidays, but I decided to get started ASAP ... no sense in waiting. Take care, Nancy

I am so glad to have found this thread. I wish all of us success and cyber-friendship for years to come. Nancy 1.What is your current and goal weight?247/140 2.What is your surgery date? 1/6/3010 3.What is your age? 62 4.Where do you live? Michigan 5.Where are you having surgery? University of Michigan Hospital 6.Who is your Doctor?? Jonathan Finks 7.Insurance or self-pay? Insurance 8.What was your "deciding factor" for having this surgery? For me it was a heart attack in July 2008. While I was still in the hospital I spoke with the cardiologist about this surgery and he said wait 18 months (January 2010) and go for it. I'm going for it!!!

I have a surgery date of January 6th. I am 62 and have fought this fight for over 50 years. I finally talked with my PCP about LAP-BAND®® and encouraged me, to go for it, she has a few patients who have had the surgery. I called my insurance carrier Blue Cross/Blue Sheild of Michigan (BCBSM). I was told I should start by getting 6 months of documented weightloss attempts. I went to my PCP in April and she started the documentation. As of today I have seen her for 7 months. In September I again called BCBSM and was told that the 6 months of documentation was no longer required, just a letter from the doctor! September 1st my husband and I went to a seminar at the University of Michigan Bariatric Center. I chose U of M because my cardiologist and PCP are on staff and they utilize a wonderful system, CareWeb, so everyone has access to my medical records. BCBSM may have relaxed their criteria, but to qualify for the surgery U of M required a physical, a psyc evaluation, 6 months of weightloss documentation, a recommendation letter from my PCP. Also, because I had a heart attack in July 2008 I needed a recommendation letter from my cardiologist and in order to get that, I had to have an ultrsound and a stress test. I had to attend at least 2 support group sessions, meet with a nutriutionist, and start a Vitamin D Rx after my blood work up revealed a deficiency ...I've been told that everyone is Michigan has a Vitamin D deficiency! I still have to meet with the nutritionist on 12/18 for instructions for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and I have a pre-op appointment on 12/17 for another physical, an EKG, an x-ray and blood work and to meet with the anesthesiologist. The request to approve my surgery was sent to BCBSM this past Tuesday and I am hoping for no problems because of the significant changes for the criteria to quafily. I am learning a lot on LapBandTalk ... thank you all.
