The salt free is BAD!!!! I can see where you could use it for a base with other things.
-
You always make me laugh! Thanks!
-
I love it, my mom bought it when I was a kid, so I grew up eating it at dinner time most nights! It is nothing like sour cream, to me. I put a little salt and pepper on it when it's a side dish at dinner, but when I eat it for breakfast, I eat it with a fruit most of the time. My mom use to put it on a lettuce leaf and then she preferred a few peach slices with it. I like peaches, pears, melons.....all are good!!! BTW - I do not like or eat Greek yogurt, at all. I will use it in place of sour cream when cooking, but that's it! I don't like the tangy taste, too much like sour cream without a baked potato!! LOL

Cottage cheese was one and is still one of my go to foods. I buy 1%, Lucerne is my favorite brand!!! I eat it for Breakfast sometimes, with a little watermelon, peaches or cantaloupe!!! I also eat about an eighth of a cup EVERY night we are eating at home....with whatever we have for dinner. Packed with Protein and I've eaten all my life, so I've always liked it!!! I have NEVER done with it what you do, but I love refried and black beans! Thanks for the tip!!! Oh, someone at one of my support groups, eats CC with an avocado slice or two. I am going to try it one of these days!

How many vets are actually AT goal and staying there?
NtvTxn replied to clk's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
But you CAN do it!!! I had to 'diet' a few months ago to drop three pounds that appeared out of nowhere! It's took a few weeks, but all I did was cut back on my caloric intake by 100 calories, so really it did not feel like a diet at all. At two years and three years, we can eat more than a fourth cup. I can't eat a full cup at one sitting, but about 2/3's - maybe 3/4's. Depending on what it is. Doc doesn't want his patients ever eating more than 1 cup at one sitting. I can't, so it's not an issue. I don't do low carb, I don't know a thing about carbs, so if you do, you're way ahead of me. Again, my doctor doesn't worry about them unless a patient isn't losing, then I guess you get a crash course in carbs!!! I was eating, at the most, 800 calories, when I was LOSING, not now. 1300 per day! Are you tracking? You are not alone, those of us who are further out are in a different place than the 'newbies'. You're doing fine, throw the Cheese Its in the trash!!! LOL I use to love them, put them in a blender and the entire box will come to a couple of cups, I'm sure of it. That amount would be easy to consume, and the calories, fat and carbs would be off the charts, I'm sure of that too!! A slider food for sure!! Good luck and have a great Fourth of July! -
Silly me, I thought the "wanna be cool kids" smoked a joint to fit in. Times have changed.

I have to ask you WHY are you eating pickles and drinking the juice? That is a serious question. Your little tummy is swollen and trying to heal, there is a staple line....and on top of everything else, there is very little space. Put a half a scrambled egg in it, some 1% cottage cheese or some Greek yogurt!!! Protein, this is your honeymoon period, make the most of it and you'll do fine!

Discouraged - NEED ADVICE - 23 days out
NtvTxn replied to Jhconnection's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 10th - a GREAT day, my three year anniversary!!! Congrats to you and welcome to the loser's side!! You are fine, I lost 17 lbs my first month, I never lost that much again in one month. I'm not sure if I lost 10 lb in a month after that first time. It's ok, I did EVERYTHING I was suppose to do, and nothing I shouldn't. I knew I'd lose, and I did. I lost 23 lbs prior to surgery and the rest in the six months following. I reached MY goal in Dec 2010 with a total loss of 85 lbs. You will be shocked at what you're going to be experiencing a year from now, I promise you!!! It's a wild, wild ride, hold on and enjoy every single part of it......wait till you can see your collar bone, then your hip bones. YES, we do have hip bones!!!! Yay!!! Wait till your clothes are practically falling off of you. Wait until shopping is FUN!!!! Go walk the mall and window shop, get a feel for your "style" - it will be totally different than it is now!!! Wait until someone says you are tiny, small....even skinny!!! It is interesting to meet people who didn't know the "old" you and they comment on how small you are......the first time I looked behind me to see if this sales lady was speaking to someone else!!! I'm serious!!! The fat girl inside me giggled!!! This is fun.....it's all new. It's going to happen. I weigh every single morning, without fail. If I'm at home, I weigh. No way will I let five pounds sneak up on me, and I KNOW for a fact that I can gain five pounds in a week. It's happened to me all of my adult life!! I pay close attention to what is going on. The scale is part of my "dashboard", I count on it, my food scale and my fitness pal to keep everything in check....just like the dashboard in my truck lets me know what's going on under the hood!! See what I mean??!!! Take this time to make changes, make some of these things your new normal.....as natural to you as breathing, that's what I did!!! Good luck, you're going to do great! -
Be patient. I did the up a lb or two, down a lb or two, up again, then down.....this was MY pattern during my entire losing stage. It's not a big deal at all. You're fine and if you are doing everything you're suppose to do and nothing you shouldn't.....you've had approx. 85% of your tummy removed, you WILL lose weight! I'd bet money on it and I'm not a betting woman!! Good luck, you are doing GREAT!

Yay, someone who thinks like I do, even down to the 'Bless your heart' I love it. Like you, I received so much support, and believe it or not, my THIN friends and elderly relatives were the most supportive!!! I have a few family members that I suspect disapprove, but they haven't said anything, one has said NOTHING. I've lost 85 lbs and she has never acknowledged it! Isn't that weird??!!! My dad, my mother in law and my husband's 90 yr old great aunt have been wonderful. The two women are SOOOOO glad that I did this before my knees got bad and before I got too old. Lovely women!! Anyway, I've been lucky, I haven't told everyone, but I told quite a few. Only one I wish I hadn't....I know she's a gossip. Oh well.....no repercussions that I KNOW of!! LoL Congrats to you......good luck!

I am pretty sure that your 49" waist did not come from your mama's va jay jay! OUCH!!! I've lost 50 pounds three different times, two of them with WW. Like any "DIET" as soon as you get back to real life and not counting points, drinking Medifast shakes or popping Phen Fen......it's going to come back, strong, hard and fast!!! Every single stinkin' time!!! A vicious cycle. Dropping 15, 20 or 25 pounds is as easy as pie....it isn't the losing weight that is usually the problem, it's keeping it off. We all "get it" but many others, even other FAT people, don't get it, it's called denial. I know, we don't like the "F" word, but it is what it is. We didn't go under the knife because we were 'hefty' or 'big boned' - did we??!!!! Not me, I was fat, with a capital F.
-
When your friend starts in with trying to talk you OUT of it.....turn it around and start pressuring HER to join you, y'all can be "sleeve buddies" Put HER on the defensive rather than letting HER put you on the spot!!! LoL
-
I'm feeling real feisty tonight I guess!! I think I'd tell your mother-in-law to "Take the easy way out like I did. Go see my doctor and have 85% of your tummy removed, then make good decisions for the rest of your life. The bright side is, fun clothes and not being the fattest girl in the room" Ok, this is not nice, but if she hits you at the wrong time and you're gutsy, you can be nasty nice, just smile pretty when you say it!! In Texas we'd follow it up with a 'Bless Your Heart'

Sounds to me like a good ol' fashioned "Kiss my a$$" is in order! I'm just sayin'

Veterans - not allowed to post
NtvTxn replied to cynthia4722's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have a clue, I've never had anything like that happen. C'mon, post HERE what you were going to post!!! Are you a veteran? I am asking this, but I'm really not sure what constitutes a veteran!!! LoL Wherever you are in this crazy ride we're on, good luck! -
I haven't had a sip of coke since before surgery, three years ago! For the record, I feel like I totally am NOT on a diet anymore, for the first time in 30 years, I was always not having something because I shouldn't. I seldom ever had a coke prior to surgery, maybe four or five fountain coke a year. I choose not to have them now, I was told not to. I was not told to not have fried zucchini but I don't, just because. Nothing is for free, without some give and take. I use to feel deprived and guilty all the time, constantly....now, I NEVER feel deprived. Life is much easier, but I still make choices and resist when I need to....less tummy just makes it easier. I'm not sure why the guilt is gone, but it is.

protein, and amount of food
NtvTxn replied to cmathews77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had two goals, lose weight and don't lose my hair!! I accomplished both, praise God!!! Eat protein or losing your hair will be out of your control....from what I understand. I hated protein shakes, I tried four different ones prior to surgery.....ick, ick and triple ick!!! After surgery, it took me three hours to get MOST of one down. It kept "growing" because I kept adding ice when it would melt and get warm. A vicious cycle. I switched to the protein shots/bullets. Some say they're not as good, well, my hair never even thinned out, so I call it good. They taste just as bad, but they are only 3.5 oz and pack 43 grams of protein. I'd take a few sips in the morning, hold your nose and rinse your mouth out after the sips, just like a kid taking yucky medicine. I'd do a few more sips at lunch and then finish it off in the evening. Between that and two cups of milk a day, 9 grams each, I was doing good. Everything else was icing on the cake. I got mine at GNC, blue raspberry was the least offensive to me. Good luck!!!! -
WLS Veterans---Should I Worry, or am I Just Neurotic?
NtvTxn replied to Vixynne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Neurotic is good!!! Obsessive/compulsive....it's all good. This IS your new life, it's still all about food, but YOU have control. All the stuff you mentioned, all normal. Your tummy is talking to you, I named mine Sylvia the sleeve. She still talks to me, pretty sassy some times, but she isn't doing gymnastics any longer!! You're fine, I'm sure of it!!! Hang on, it's a wild, but fun ride!!! Welcome to the loser's side! -
No way in hell would I go ask for my stomach and 85 pounds back!!!! I'd do this again in a heartbeat, not ONE SECOND of buyer's remorse. I've been excited since I woke up in recovery!!!! Loved every single step of this from SF Jell-O and chicken broth to maintenance. The pain was minimal, I've given birth twice, this was a breeze!!!!

Why you chose the sleeve
NtvTxn replied to corcor85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out thinking I'd have lapband like three of my friends did. Two of the three are regaining, neither reached their goal. The third, the wife of one of the others, had complications and had her band removed 6 weeks after it was put in place. I read and read, and the failure rate was/is high. I'd never heard of the sleeve 3.5 years ago when I started researching, but when I did, I knew forced Portion Control is what I needed. I never looked back. -
You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it, I've always thought it was a good one! Prayers for your peace of mind. Enjoy what you're going through now with the weight loss. It's a fun, exciting time....an adventure!

I know this may sound corny, but it is a good poem, and I've found it very accurate. People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty; to provide you with guidance and support; to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on. Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it. It is real. But only for a season. LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant. — Unknown

Find a good therapist, if nothing else, find WLS support groups to attend. They will keep you busy, you'll meet people and make friends. I'm sorry she did this, but I have to agree with everyone else, this is about her, not you. Change scares people, you making this change threatened her, scared her....something. Can I ask you, is she heavy? Could this be insecurity? Good luck to you.

What do you do when you switch scales and your newer one is heavier?
NtvTxn replied to genepha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You must have gotten the same WW scale I have. Shows all that 'stuff' and it weighs me very accurately!!! I went for my three year visit and with the same clothes on, I weighed about 4 oz more here at the house. Am glad to know it's right! Unless I go up or down 3 lbs, I don't change the ticker, because my weigh fluctuates a lb or two on any given day, up AND down! -
