    Self Pay in TN? Costs?

In Dallas and Houston the sleeve is $11,555 - $12,500 and done at a center of excellence.

    First two weeks

I just came across this. M&M's really? Candy? Is that really a good choice after having the sleeve with the sugar and all?

    Mushie food ideas?

All of a sudden I am looking at carbs....can someone PLEASE tell me, WHAT is considered 'high' carbs per serving. I looked at something the other day that was 26, and to me, that seems high, is it? Help!! Surgery is in June, and I'm trying to educate myself now....I want a crash course! I know about fat and sat. fat...but carbs...Yikes! Thank you in advance!

    My Last Supper... And Emotions...

I was told that he would be in touch with her and blood work etc. could be ordered by her and they could/would work together. I met with my PCP initially and let her know what I was going to do, so she is aware of what is going on and knows she will be involved with aftercare. Maybe you can answer this, my doctor's office, the guy I've spoken with said that they will want to see my B12 level off the charts afterwards, why is that? We don't have malabsortion (sp?) issues like bypass patients.

    My Last Supper... And Emotions...

Hi Tiff - bariatric surgery is NOT excluded from our policy, but I do not qualify. My BMI is 36.5 and I have no health issues. I'm not to worried, I'm healthy and I trust my doctor, but you NEVER know, right??!! I am traveling out of state though, so when I'm back home, if something happens, I would have to go to the ER, I wouldn't even have MY doctor near-by. I was just wondering if anybody had any idea!

    Clear Liquids Only Stage?

A couple of questions! WHAT is a TPN bag?? Aren't we sent home on Clear liquids? If so, how long does that last and does that include Campbell's chicken noodle soup with the noodles and chicken strained out and a can of Water added to the broth? Will water or will water NOT stretch out our new tummies? My surgery is scheduled for June 11th. I have so many questions! Thanks!!!

    My Last Supper... And Emotions...

What I'm curious about is this. If you are a self pay patient (like I am going to be) - what if something happens and you have to go to the ER....will insurance cover problems that might occur from WLS? Does anyone know the answer to that?
  9. I will be sure and watch for that. Thanks for the heads up! Since I have my own little coffee pot now, I may just keep on drinking the decaf afterwards unless we're somewhere that it's not offered. Why not, right? Thank you again!

    Traveling for surgery...

Hi Robbie - I am traveling out of state for surgery in June, (at a center of excellence as well) but it's a lot further, so I'll be flying. I wanted to tell you what the nurse at Dr. Davidson's office told me. We are renting a beach house in Galveston for a week after surgery, which is about a five hour drive from Dallas. I was told that we will need to stop every hour to Galveston and then again on our way back to Dallas for my follow up visit so that I can get out of the car just to walk around the car or whatever, not a long stop, just like I said, just to walk around it...this is to avoid blood clots. Also, on the flight home, I will need to get up every hour on the 4.5 flight home and just walk down the isle and back, for the same reason. You can talk to your surgeon about this, I just wanted to let you know, since there has been stuff in the news about deep vein thrombosis, which is what they are worried about. Good luck, I know you are as excited as I am!!!

    Ouch!

Just curious y'all, Dr. Davidson (Dallas) is doing my surgery June 11th. I've got family to spend the first week with, and after my one week post-op visit we've got a beach house in Galveston for my 2nd week of recovery. How will I feel? I know we are suppose to walk as much as possible, but how much WILL I feel like walking and doing? I'm just curious, will I be resting a lot or will I be able to walk some on the beach and enjoy our trip? On week two, will I still be on clear liquids or full liquids? Is every doctor different? If so, is anyone here familiar with Dr. Davidson? I know there are a couple of his patients that I've seen 'around'. Thank you in advance!
  12. My surgery is scheduled for June 11th. I suffer from migraines and cannot risk coming off caf. to fast. We just bought a little 4 cup coffee pot for me this weekend and will start the half caff stuff in about a week. I'm sooooo glad I found this forum and learned about this way ahead of time!!
  13. Hi Fencepost. I don't think that I've written you previously. I see that your doctor is Dr. Davidson, that is who I am using. I am FROM Texas, but we currently live out of state. My first appt. is April 6th, I'll be attending the seminar and Trevor has arranged for me to have some pre-op training the following day. Surgery is scheduled for June 11th. I am very excited. I'm hoping the time will fly by. Is there anything I should know? Anything you wish you'd known before hand that you did not? I am going to 'recover' the first week at a friend's house in East Texas, then my husband is coming to pick me up and we are spending a week at a beach house in Galveston before flying home. I have to kill time to get my 2 week post op visit in. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated! I can't wait to meet the doctor! Thank you in advance!

  14. Stephanie! Congrats on your decision! I've heard nothing but great things about Dr. Nick. Initially that is who I was going to use, but I too am an out of stater, and although I am 'from Texas' my friend is going to be the one with me and Friday is more convenient. The doctor I am going to, Dr. Davidson will do it on Friday! Dr. Davidson, who is also listed as a 'Top Doc' in Dallas is suppose to be top notch, so I'm happy with my choice too! I'll be there in June, but am headed there for the seminar and some pre-surgery stuff in April...surgery is scheduled for June 11th!!! If you feel like it while you're there, check out a couple of the malls. Dallas has great places to shop, even if you're just window shopping. The Galleria on LBJ Freeway and NorthPark Mall off Central Expressway are fun, fun, fun! Good luck!!!
  15. KayKay! I have an appt. scheduled with Dr. Davidson April 6th and am penciled in for surgery June 11th. I am so excited. I've only spoken with Trevor, and he's the one reason I chose Dr. Davidson, he's been very helpful. How many sleeves has the doctor done, do you know? Y'all were happy with him and the outcome, correct? What size bougie does he do, do you know? Is there anything I should know ahead of time??!! Thank you in advance!! We are Native Texans, but are currently living out of state....so we are traveling back 'home' - it's less expensive. Have a great afternoon.

Dr. Almanza, he is a handsome devil!

You look great! Tell me about the sleeve...eating etc!! What can I expect. I'm starting with a BMI just a little higher than yours. (36) I can't wait. I'm headed to Dallas for the seminar in April, back in June for surgery.
  17. I haven't had surgery yet....my semianar appt. is April 6th. I'm self pay and going to Texas since the cost is less there. I can't imagine that you'll regret making this life change. Good luck to you!
  18. Hi Jenn - I'm just getting started too. I made the decision to get the sleeve in Dec. I had originally thought I'd get banded but after reading the band forums and then after talking to a couple of people and then a doctor's office I started doing research on the sleeve and decided to have it done. I am self pay and going out of state. (Texas) I have family there and it is much less expensive. I have an appointment in April for the seminar and some pre-op stuff that they are going to let me take care of. Maybe meet with a nutritionist, I'm not sure...I'll do that the following day and then I'm going back in June for surgery. I can't wait. Good luck to you!!

Does 'broth' include Campbells chicken noodle Soup with the noodles and chicken strained out and a can of water added as directed?

    NSV shout outs

I am going for the seminar in April and surgery in June, I hate waiting, but it is what it is!!!! It does give me time to do a lot of things like read all these posts and prepare!! I just bought a robe and slip on slippers for the hospital and I have a list of post op soups that I'm trying a few at a time. I will stock up on the ones I like and won't end up with ones I don't! I am worried about my ARMS...I really would LOVE to be able to wear the summer dresses and sleeveless stuff we all dream about summer of '11....and so starting two weeks ago I have 5 lb weights and am faithfully using them 3x's a week doing various arm exercises. Does anyone have any idea if I can tone up at all and make it less likely that I'll have all the flab or 'batwings' that I've read about??!!!! I'd like to believe I can have nice or at least decent arms some day!!!!
  21. Hi Bigtex! You've had surgery!! What date? How are you? I've made some changes since we last wrote. I'm going with Dr. Davidson instead of Dr. Nick simply because I can have surgery on a Friday and that works better for me. I see where you said something about road trips are a little being a little rough, how far were you talking about and how soon out? Right after I'm released, I'm going to a friend's house in East Texas, it will be a three hour drive! Should I be prepared to be miserable? After my one week check up, my husband is coming down (we are out of state) and picking me up and we're headed to Galveston from Dallas for a week. Give me the low down, what should I expect??!! Tell me how you are, and what about getting off caffeine what is that all about?? Do tell!!! :) Have a great evening!

  22. I'm scheduled to head to TX for the seminar and pre-op stuff the first week in April. I can't wait....I notice you've LOST 30 lbs before surgery. HOW??!!!! Congrats and good luck. I know you must be as excited as I am!!!!

    Im new!

Hi Stephanie, I live in Wisconsin and am traveling to Texas. Two reasons, I am FROM Texas, and the cost of sleeve surgery there is much less. I researched many doctors in Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio and decided on Dr. James Davidson in Dallas. Weight Loss Surgery Dallas Gastric Bypass Sleeve Gastrectomy LAP-BAND? Adjustable Gastric Band Home Page Several reasons, his clinic is a 'Center of Excellence' which my Wisconsin family doctor told me to look for, and also, "D Magazine" - a monthly magazine in Dallas has a yearly issue devoted to top doctors in the Dallas area in different areas of practice. Dr. Davidson has been named a 'Top Doctor' for seventeen years in a row. He is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. All this tells me that he's probably a pretty good physician. I am going in April for the seminar and since I am out of state, they're letting me do my pre-op appointment at that time. I'm penciled in for surgery June 11th!! I'll fly in early so I can get my bloodwork and anything else that needs to be done taken care of. They've been easy to work with. I've talked to a guy named Trevor...he's been able to answer every question and has been so patient when I call back! Plus, the price is reasonable, it's over twice as much in WI. Good luck, I hope this helps you some!!

    Surgeons Dallas area

I was torn between Dr. Nick and Dr. James Davidson, both 'Top Doctors' in "D Magazine" - I'm going with Dr. Davidson because he can do my surgery on Friday and that works better for me. I'm out of state, and when we worked out our plans, it was best. He has been listed as a "Top Doc" for 17 yrs and his office is a center of excellence. I'm not sure WHAT that means, but my local doctor said it is something I should look for. I've been working with a guy named Trevor and he has gone above and beyond being helpful. Being out of state is difficult, and I couldn't come down for the two week pre-op, so when I go for the seminar in April, they are letting me do the pre-op then....they're just really nice people, I'm impressed so far!!
