  1. I'm scheduled for surgery in June - seminar on April 6ht!!! Is it hard to figure out WHAT to eat after the liquids, mushies and all that while you are healing? Do we have to count carbs, fat grams etc. or just 'watch' what we eat? How difficult is this tool to work with? It seems like just watching what we eat....keeping Protein up and sugars at a min. Sat. fat and partially hydrogenated stuff OUT...I'm just thinking of stuff we've changed since my husband had a stent put in....plus a little of what I've read here. Am I correct or am I in for a lot of counting and adding in my head??!! :thumbup1: I cannot wait to get started on this journey!
  2. Thanks Barbann....I can and will give it up just in case. I don't "need" it, I just started taking it because my husband did. It did lower my cholesterol, but it was in the 180's already and dropped to the 160's. It is currently in the 140's and that is without prescription medication!! My husband had a stent put in a year ago, so our diet has changed, much less red meat is all I can figure. Of couse HE LOST 20 lbs. I LOST FIVE!!!! LOL My cholesterol dropped though!!! Thanks again!!
  3. I feel like my grandmother!! LOL I DO have one of those Monday - Sunday pill holders!! It is a lot to be taking, but my family doctor had me start the calcium, multi, when I turned 40....I started the fish oil when my husband did because of his slightly high cholesterol and it dropped it from 180 to 165!! I've just stayed on it because! When we moved to WI our doctor told us we NEED to take vit D, and I agree, there is NOT nearly enough sunshine up here! We are native Texans, we are use to some sun!! LOL The nurse at Dr. Davidson's office said after surgery, they will want my B12 levels to be "off the chart" - why is that???!!! Does anyone know??!!! The gummy Flintsone vitimins....great idea! Someone said something about the difference in calcium...I'm not sure, but there IS a difference with the calcium citrate (sp?) vs plain calcium.

    Favorite protein?

9 gr. is what is in the Greek yogurt I am using - is that a lot?? I am so glad you asked!!! Tell me what a lot is. I am not sure what to look for, even though I have not had surgery yet, I am watching the carbs, but neither my husband or I are sure WHAT is considered a lot. Also, about the Stivia, I have used it and like it but currently I am using something called Sun Crystals, it is stivia and cane sugar. 5 cal. per packet. Is that something I should give up after surgery? Thank you in advance!
  5. Just curious....because I am scheduled for surgery in June....do you take pills or have you found liquid supplements? Currently I am taking magnesium, fish oil, vit D, C and a multi as well as calcium. I just want to know, will I continue with these AND add B12? Can I take these or do I need to start looking for them in liquid form? I know I can lay off the fish oil for a while. My cholesterol is LOW....but what about the others?? Any idea?? My seminar appointment is in April...I guess they can answer all of my questions, but I'm excited and anxious to get started!! :001_tongue:
  6. Surgery is scheduled for June. Your progress is amazing. I cannot wait. My appt. for the seminar is in March. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully time will fly. Thanks for the response!

    Favorite protein?

I am so excited. I bought the smalled thing of a Whey protein powder to try that I could find, and I can 'make do' - but I am not thrilled. It is unflavored and I am adding fruit, Greek yogurt (vanilla) etc. It is thick and still, even unflavored, doesn't taste great....BUT, I came across a sample size envelope of a new one yesterday and it is really good. It's egg white protein....I got chocolate and added about a TB of Smuckers natural peanut butter, five ice cubes and four oz. of the vanilla Greek yogurt. It it kind of like a Reeses cup! Good enough you might PAY for it! I found it at Whole Foods, it is by Jay Robb and has no sugar but 24 grams of protein! It comes in vanilla and strawberry as well.

Trying out web cam, down 32lbs.

32 lbs - that's amazing. My face always shows it first too, but I can tell in your mid-section as well. Kudos...I can't wait. June will be here before I know it!!! Yippee!

    Wasting Food!

I think we've all felt this way. At a restaurant I will have the waitress box it up or if it isn't enough to take home, I've even poured a lot of salt on it, and pushed it away. At home, I have told myself over and over again, it is NOT wasting....whether I put what is left on my plate in the garbage disposal or whether I 'digest' it first....it is going to end up in the same place. :blushing: Beleive it or not, it helps to think of it like that and know it's the truth! I hope that when I AM sleeved this summer, I will keep this attitude!! Good luck!

    Spicy foods??

Linda, What a 'good choices' when it comes to TexMex after getting sleeved? It is a must have, but and I'm real versatile....so what do you choose? Are chips and salsa a total no no before your meal comes? I'd say they're out!

    Protein Ideas......

What about unflavored protein powder?? I've been experimenting with smoothies, but I have not added protein powder to one yet. I HAVE been using something new that I've read about somewhere on one of these boards...Greek Yogurt it's about double in protein of any other brand of yogurt. It smells and tastes a little more yogurty but when I add the fruit, banana or pineapple so far.....sugar-free Hershey's syrup or vanilla or coconut extract....all the yummy stuff to make a smoothie, it makes a good, healthy drink. The yogurt is 16 gr of protein for 6 oz. Adding the protein powder is going to make this a great source...WON'T IT????!!!
  12. it worked!!!!!!! thanks Tiff!!!

    tasting shakes pre-op

Should I be sampling protein powders now, pre-op? I'm really interested in UN-flavored....are they really un-flavored? I've been experimenting with smoothies. I.E. Greek yogurt (high in protein) with a banana, pineapple or SF Hershey's syrup, maybe some coconut or vanilla extract. I've come up with some pretty good ones. Will adding the powder change them, that is my question! Advice is welcome!!! (any brands recommended? what's best and what is considered low in sugar; low in carbs?) Thank you in advance!
  14. Thanks Kay Kay!! I am so ready to get this show on the road!! While I have your ear, how is the weather in Dallas? I wish we were there now....our high today in Wisconsin Rapids is suppose to be SIX!!! Is that a real temp??!! ha ha We are hoping to move home in the next year or so....God willing! Have a wonderful afternoon. Thanks for the response!

  15. hey y'all....i have a totally off topic question. i've tried to get the weight loss 'ticker' but cannot figure out how to get it on my posts permanently. HELP!!!
  16. I can't wait to get sleeved.....for some reason I thought the sliming was something associated with being banded. No?? WHAT is it??!!!!

    Scars?

How many incisions will we have? For some reason I am thinking five or six...is that correct? I know Dr. Davidson uses staples. Is that common?
  18. A good ol' fashioned kiss my a*s ~ could alleviate the situation!
  19. Amen....and I'm LMAO, well said and hysterical to boot!

    Docs in Dallas Area?

Dr. James Davidson is who I'm using, but Dr. Nick Nicholson was my second choice. Davidson does surgery on Friday and that worked better for me. Both practice at a center of excellence and both have been voted 'Top Doctors' by fellow physicians in the DFW area and listed in the local magazine. 'D Magazine' - may seem trivial, but it is not! There are others mentioned here on the board that people really like!
  21. I'm very excited. Surgery is scheduled for June, seminar in April. I'm going out of state, back home to Texas. I've got plenty of time to research obsessively, which suits me just fine! I think about it all the time, even if I get up at 3 AM to go to the bathroom, it's on my mind. Some times I am sorry I didn't plan on doing it sooner so I could stop obsessing about every little detail, but June just 'works' for us!

    Another Step Closer

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one obsessed with reading and talking about the surgery! I have five books sitting next to me from our library that I picked up yesterday. Sadly, they all deal with bypass surgery, but the recipes and some of the other stuff has to do with anyone having or planning to have WLS.
  23. DeeDee - I just looked at all your pictures. OMG - my surgery is scheduled for June 11th. You are such an inspiration! I can't wait. You are critiquing yourself way too much, you look wonderful.

  24. I'm not sure what it means or what difference it makes, but my PCP told me to make sure the doctor I chose practiced at a center of excellence. I'm sure someone here knows! :001_smile:
