  1. My intent is NOT to make anybody feel bad. I understand not having the money to pay out of pocket, not everyone can do that or get financing, BUT......many, if not MOST of us have our doctor listed in our "signature" - we can send anyone a personal message to ask about a specific doctor. It doesn't have to become a topic, do you see the difference? I have had a few people send me a message, asking me about my doctor. I'm happy to tell them, although I am probably not going to use all 10,000 of my words today, doing so. A "letter of recommendation" doesn't have to go into the rooter to the tooter detail for someone to hear what we are saying and I always, ALWAYS tell people about one other doctor that I personally know patients from meetings, that have used him.
  2. I don't have an answer. I guess it just rubs me the wrong way some times. Maybe it's that time of the month, maybe it just needs to be questioned. If it's not a big deal, why are so many feathers ruffled? I am not the first to bring it up.
  3. I totally understand, I do the same thing. There's no telling what important stuff I get via email and push delete because they're too darn wordy!
  4. Do I hear an "AMEN"????!!!!! I try an not be harsh, but some times, you can't help but step on a toe or two. Stupidity knows no limits. There are some who'd say I qualify....that's ok. I'm 3 years out and 2.5 years maintaining. No matter what, nobody can argue that what I'm doing has seemed to work. Nobody can say I do not speak from experience. Everybody is going to do what they want, all I can do is say what works for me.

    Naysayers

You're going to find those who are not supportive, but you have to do what is best for you!!! Some are worried, some are jealous, there are numerous reasons. You'll do fine and you will NOT believe the change in your life one year after surgery!!! Enjoy, it's a wild ride and a lot of fun!!!
  6. I know it, I know it!!! I tend to be a little obsessive, and sarcastic at times. Shocking, isn't it? The dry sense of humor is lost on some folks. If you can't find humor in just about everything, life is just a little tougher. IMHO. Some times somebody just needs to step up and throw down that 'infamous' flag. I'm just sayin'
  7. Re-read. I came from WI to Dallas TX.

    How do you reward yourself?

I'm past rewarding myself at this point, but I loved going to the mall either to get something new, if needed, or just to window shop!!!! I still like trying things on just because I can.
  9. Amazing. That is not the word I would use. I guess it was as "OK" as it could be when you're being put under and wake up with five little incisions and 85% of your stomach hanging out in pathology. Scream it from the roof tops? Not really, but I do like going to support groups, I attend four a month. The only time I talk about Dr. D is if someone asks who I used. I paid 12,500 and included all the pre and post op appointments for the first year, for a little discount and I'd have said whatever they want, I suppose. A Mexico vacation, had one of those, Riviera Maya, food wasn't very good except for breakfast. I wasn't that impressed. I did spend week #2 post op in a beach house on the west end of Galveston Island. Sorry ol' doctor didn't pay for that. Didn't really want me riding 5 hours from Dallas, but I begged and promised to get out of the car and walk around once every hour. Again, I will not promote my doctor, I'm a walking/talking advertisement, but only if someone asks.
  10. My plan had me starting 'normal' at six weeks. They're all different, I think.
  11. You're great Laura, and so much more grown up than me!!
  12. ** all this eye rolling, my mom would die** All Texans assholes....I know you're trying to irritate me, but you make me smile. In Texas, that is a term of endearment!!!
  13. It is terrible to group all together, but when there are lurkers here to advertise/promote - then ALL are suspect. That's just the way it is.
  14. It will be a few months, but all of a sudden, you'll drink like normal.
  15. BMI prior to surgery was just under 36. I'm not quite 5'7", but almost. Weight, date of seminar, 228. Weight day before surgery, 205. I reached doctor's goal in 5 months, and my goal, five lbs less, a month later. Surgery was June 11, 2010. I've been maintaining for about 2.5 years. I go between 143 and 147. (Averaged 10 lbs per month after surgery, sometimes more, sometimes less, but slow and steady)
  16. Different doctors from Mexico have different scripts, but basically, they're all the same. Butterflies and rainbows from start to finish!

    Is 2-3 ounces my normal

This is what I did, maybe less. Five weeks out I was getting about 400 calories a day. I lost steadily and felt good. I reached goal in five months. My physician never wants his patients to get eat more than 1 cup of food at a sitting. I am 3 years out and cannot eat that much, which is great!

    NEW WHEY LIQUID PROTIEN "SHOTS"

I went to protein shots, from GNC, because after 1 week of trying, I was not getting enough protein and because I was spending so much time trying, I was lacking in water as well. These little jewels, 3.5 oz and 43 grams of protein. They tasted just as bad, but I'd hold my nose, take a few sips and rinse my mouth out with water. I'd take a few more sips (I held my nose too, just like a kid) at lunch and I'd finish it off that evening. I'd gotten one in my "to go" bag from Forest Park Medical Center, when I was discharged. I don't think they consider it the BEST protein, but I never had any hair loss, no thinning at all, and my labs have always been very good. I highly recommend this stuff....it saved me!!!
  19. Went from wonderful to adding a "WOW" factor, I hadn't counted on that. It's like the cherry on top of the sundae.
  20. I have never gotten the impression that anybody thinks anything like what you've listed and besides that, if people thought my surgeon, right here in Dallas used Jack Daniels as anesthesia in a less than perfect OR. Big deal, I don't care. That is HIS problem, not mine. It is HIS job to educate the public, surely not my responsibility.
  21. I've NEVER posted a detailed post that started with my first phone call to Trevor, the seminar, surgery and onto my 1 week, 2 week, 3, 6 and 12 month follow ups. I don't think there is a soul who gives a rat's rear end to hear all that stuff. I have seen a few of the posts, like you say you posted, and I get through the first few lines and move on. I wouldn't take any post like that, seriously. It's a script, approved by someone on staff who is in charge of marketing! We all know it's made up, and I'm not saying there aren't good doctors and good/safe outcomes, but I don't for one minute believe one of these long winded commercials qualifies.
  22. Doing a google search for bariatric surgeons, anywhere, country, state or city.....including Mexico, will bring up a slew of information. Including "reviews". It's as simple as that. Again I say, why are THESE doctors the only ones who have patients that give blow by blow details???!!!! How clean, how simple, how safe, no problems, great staff, everything you always wanted to know, but were afraid or to lazy or dumb to find out for yourselves. I look at these "endorsements" and just like when I see a Enquirer headline, I assume it is all exaggerated and/or out and out false!
  23. My husband agrees with Lauren. Fake, fake, fake. He said, the price alone will lure some, but they NEED all these carbon copy endorsements about every aspect from the very first phone call, to being picked up at the airport, surgery, no problems and on through being delivered back to the airport.....I even read how wonderful the restaurant is in one of the hotels. C'mon, give me a break. Has anyone EVER, I mean EVER seen any of this with one of the U.S. doctors or any doctor really, outside of Mexico? I have not!! I like my doctor, I'd use him again, I'd recommend him to friends or family, but I know he isn't the only bariatric surgeon that is good here in the good ol' US of A, or Texas or even in Dallas. Unless he wants to add my name to the payroll and gives me a script, he'll have to stick to D Magazine. The 'guilty dog' barks the loudest and boy do they come out of the woodwork!!!

    Peanut Butter?

I love peanut butter, but didn't start eating it until I reached goal. I eat it sparingly due to the high calories. 100 calories for one TB. Ugh!!!! I did buy a jar of the Pb2. I had little home I'd like it, and probably not if I was eating a PB&J sandwich but on a graham cracker, it's a lot of bang for your buck, not bad at all. (hubby likes it!)
  25. For three years I've been starting and ending my day with a cup of Organic skim milk. That is an additional 18 grams of protein.
