    Negative Calorie Intake

I'm in the negative today, and have been for the past few days. I need 1300 calories to maintain and I'm almost 400 calories short. My protein is 92, so that's good. It's pretty neat, because even though I don't ant to lose any more, I've lost 2 pounds in the past five days. I like being under, but not normally four days in a row and not normally 400 calories!

    Sleeve vs. Bypass

Forced portion control, which is what I needed. I know numerous by pass patients, some personal friends, who have gained all or some of their weight back. Of course, there are sleeve patients who will regain. The doctor does the surgery, then it's up to us. I went for my three year check up last Friday. His daughter in law works in his office. She has gotten sleeve surgery. That tells me something, but still you have to do what you think is best for YOU. Good luck!
  5. As long as you're following the 'plan' - your doctor's guidelines, you cannot help but lose weight. It didn't appear over night and will not disappear overnight. During my ENTIRE losing period, I went up and down, up and down. I NEVER had one morsel that could remotely be considered a no no, but still, I'd wake up and be up two pounds, but I never did panic, knowing it was just how I did it. The longest I ever did the up and down, holding on to a couple of lbs, was ten days. After doing this for a few days or a week....I'd get up, weigh and it would be gone for good. Then on to the next pound or two. It will be fine, have fun on this adventure!!!! Enjoy every single step!! Good luck!

    Fruits?

I couldn't start on fruit until six weeks and then, the dietitian told us, in the beginning at the seminar, to consider fruit a treat, a couple of times a week. I never kept fruit around ALL the time, so a couple of times a week works for me.
  7. It will happen for you, I am certain!!! It is wonderful to feel "small" next to your husband. It was a goal for me as well.

To track or not to track?

As of this morning, my daughter, who has not had surgery and wasn't "really" overweight, not by much....she has lost 20 lbs solely by tracking on MFP. She has been shocked by the calories in many foods. She's done great, I wish I'd been able to do this, and wish I knew about tracking and could have done it....at age 31 and only 172 lbs. She is 5'9" so she didn't look bad at all, but she needed to lose the 'baby weight'. The 'baby' is 4.5 years old. LoL
  9. You're preaching to the choir.....but, on a side note. At night, it's a game Curt and I have played for going on three years......at night we GUESS what I'll weigh the next morning!! I know.....crazy!!! BTW, I LOVE Butterbean!!!! LOL
  10. OMG - it's been so long, I'd forgotten about the 'Friday weigh in' - although I weighed every morning first thing and at night before going to bed.....Friday was the number that "counted".
  11. You're doing great, and you're fine. I have been weighing twice a day for over three years now!!! I love it, I'm addicted to it as well....plus my doctor says to weigh every morning. My routine is just about like yours, first thing! Don't let the ups and downs get you, we ALL do the same thing and when you're at goal and maintaining, you STILL do the same thing. Weighing keeps me accountable, it's like looking at the dashboard in my truck, it keeps me knowledgeable on what's going on under the hood. Make sense???!!!

    New to this forum

Sharon, I know it is nerve wracking and exciting all at the same time. You'll be fine, you are taking the first step to a new way of life. Enjoy every step, take time to enjoy each time you go down a size. Have a friend or spouse, someone, point out people at the mall that are your size....because YOU will NOT see yourself as others see you, not for a long time, maybe never! I'm three years out and I still don't see it. I know I'm smaller, but when someone says "tiny" or "skinny" I almost look behind me and then the fat girl inside giggles!!! You won't believe the changes a year from now. Go to the store NOW, or on your way to the hospital and have someone take your picture. Then every month on your surgery 'date', have someone take your picture. After your one year anniversary picture, take the disposable camera and have the film developed. There is nothing like laying all those pictures, side by side and seeing the transformation! It is one of the things I'm so glad I did. I read about someone else doing it, right here on this forum!!! Good luck to you.....in 24 hours, you'll be on the "Loser's Bench" with the rest of us!!!
  13. I soooo identify with what you said. All of it. I went for my three year check up this past Friday. One of the girls in his office has had sleeve surgery, we were talking about the fears and head games we play with ourselves. I told her that I have this irrational fear of waking up one morning, ravenous and 25 lbs heavier. I am torn about whether I really want to quit having thoughts like that 'lurk'. I am NOT consumed by them and part of me thinks THOSE THOUGHTS keep me diligent, just like you said we need to be. I agree 100%. I don't feel like I am on a diet now, not at all, but I AM aware of everything I eat. I don't think that is a bad thing, especially for those of us who have fought obesity a good part of our lives. You said it well. Thanks!

    Seriously? Does everyone exercise?

Thanks Amytug - I just might give it a try, I know it would be good for me even though I don't want to lose any more weight. Just or the record, I do have a weighted ball that I toss around a few times a week, praying my arms will end up looking like Michelle Obama's look, fat chance!! I literally sprint up our stairs numerous times every day. I park as far out as I can when I am shopping.....so I don't do anything as strenuous as you are doing, but I don't sit around watching TV all day! I really do admire you, keep up the good work!!! Good luck!

    Seriously? Does everyone exercise?

Your story is exactly why I KNEW I'd have to make lifestyle changes and I have. I have the attention span of a four year old, I did NOT want to lose weight in part due to all of a sudden becoming a "gym rat" - I know ME and I knew I'd get bored, not go and if I'd lost because I was a short time exercise guru, I'd regain. It's worked for me, but I in no way recommend it....you have to make lifestyle changes that you can live with forever. The things I do are just like breathing to me, it's my new normal. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
  17. I was told upon discharge from the hospital to get up and walk down the isle and back if flying or stop and walk around the car a time or two, once every hour. This was to continue for six weeks.

    Sleeve: The UNTOLD Story

I love it that someone is happy, but willing to tell the truth. Kudos to you OP. Seeing a naked person in the ER would not be good, but waiting until that night for surgery that was suppose to take place that morning. Hell, I might have had a stroke!!!! Glad you are ok, back home and happy, you'll love this surgery, the results are awesome!
  19. My doctor doesn't ever want his patients eating more than a cup of food at a time. I am three years out and cannot eat a cup of food, I'm hoping it will stay as it is, from now on!!! I swear someone said a pre-op tummy is about the size of a deflated football. Does that sound right to the rest of you?

    coffee drinkers?

Every time I go to Starbucks, I get a glass of ice water as a 'chaser' - I feel a lot better about the amount of coffee I consume on a daily basis. I've never bought the dehydration thing. When the nurse told me to "JUST DRINK, COFFEE, TEA, just not sugary drinks" a weight was lifted for me. I was pretty sure I would end up in the ER because I couldn't drink that much water and my migraines and all the dyes in the bottled drinks are not good.....and I really don't like those things anyway!!!

Any success stories for the 50's group?

What a birthday gift to give to yourself and your family!! Enjoy, it is a wild ride and oh so fun! Hang on!!!
  22. I guess maybe I was considered a lightweight. I went into this thinking 50 - 55 lbs would be wonderful, it happened so quickly, I knew I had underestimated what I could do with this surgery. I've lost between 82 and 84 lbs, depending on the day. Great decision, great results. I had my three year check up today, surgery was June 10, 2010.
  23. You've got it together, good for you and congratulations all around!!!

How is your water tasting now?

I always like water, COLD water, out of a water fountain. Well, that isn't possible here at the house. I seldom ever drink water here at the house, I drink iced tea with stevia....and coffee with stevia. With that said, any time I go to Starbucks, I get a large glass as a 'chaser' to my coffee. They have the best water ever, triple filtered is what I think the girl told me. When we eat out, I try and get two glasses drank before the meal arrives. I love to drink it out....a lot of ice and lemon, and I add a stevia. It is not lemonade, just real refreshing. I have been drinking it like this for years....for some reason it just isn't the same at home. LoL
