  1. i know most people are like what?? cancer patients don't need weightloss surgery? uh, ya huh, some do... here's the deal I was scheduled with my hubby to have lapband surgery back in march 2010 but life had different plans for me, in dec 2009 i was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had tohave emergency surgery to have it removed, then in jan 2010 2 wks after brain tumor removal surgery dr told me it was the big C WORD....that i only had 4-6months... long story short GOD IS ON THE THRONE AND STILL IN THE MIRACLE BUSINESS SO I AM STILL HERE, JUST LIKE I TOLD THE ONCOLOGIST I WOULD BE... ANYWAY finally after doing chemo/radiation and everything else under the sun in 2010, i was given the go ahead for lapband surgery in jan 2011, since then i have only lost right at 48-50lbs, discouraged is not even close to how i felt, i guess since the hubby lost 100lbs in his first year i just naturally thought i would too, NOT.... i don't pig out by any means, but still have plateaued off and have been at this weight for over 8 months... so i guess i am going to start all over and try to get another fill, I have only had 2 but already get stuck if i eat something too fast or just happen to not get it chewed up good enough... anyway not sure why i posted maybe just to get it out in the open and for me to be convince myself i'm gonna start over... anyway thanks for listening
  2. OK here's the deal.... I have 6 1/2 month after being banded... and I am stuck at 40 lbs lost..... I actually have a crazy situation... I had to go thru chemo/radiation for 9months in 2010 so am still not back to 100%energy level, so i honestly do not go to the gym on a regular basis. I have been staying busy working from home and getting my business built back up from before i got sick... anyway i notice that I really do not eat all that much.... a small amount of food and I am getting stuck or have eaten too much that i have to work to get it back up (guess i haven't quite learned to eat slow enough yet..old habits i guess) anyway i still get hungry and my stomach will start growling and i even make myself wait til later to eat so that i don't start off the day eating all day long... i guess my question is IS IT NORMAL FOR ME TO BE HUNGRY AND BE GETTING STUCK OR FULL WITH NOT MUCH FOOD. SHOULD I GO GET ANOTHER FILL AND KNOWING IT WILL FORCE ME TO GO BACK TO THE liquids OR ONLY MUSHY FOODS? I FEEL PRETTY RESTRICTED ALREADY?? HELP PLEASE!!!
  3. from what i have been told by my nurse that does my fills, it really depends on several factors... like how much your band will hold. if you have a 14 cc band and you only 6cc in it now you are not even half way full and usually the sweet spot is going to be a 2-3 cc shy of the full cc it will hold. so i wouldn't be discouraged by that just wait a week or so and see if you can get another fill, your dr or the nurse doing the fills should also be able to help you with these questions as they have probably seen tons of people with the same issues... GOOD LUCKI
  4. OK i know this sounds ridiculous? but here goes... I am 10 weeks post op.. and have yet to have a fill yet... (long story, but hubby has family that works at the only fill place in town and I really don't want people to know I got lapband yet). anyway i've lost approximately 17 lbs.. since Jan 27th.. ( my surgerydate)... and this last week.. i have been really disgusted with myself, I was really excited about 2 weeks ago because i had to buy a couple of pairs of pants that fit and then they were already starting to get loose after about 4-5 days.. but now i am really unhappy with how i look... guess cause this past weekend to a conference and had pictures taken with family and SAW HOW GROSS I AM... and this is after loosing about 35 lbs. since september... I just wonder if ANYONE else is experiencing these same emotions or am i just being moody?? thanks for any input. btw i am going to get a fill tomorrow (my first one)
  5. no not sagggy.... just like i am not happy with not looking thinner i guess... guess i am frustrated that it's not coming off faster... hubby had lapband done in april '10 and by aug he was down 85lbs.. so far he is down right at 100lb.. guess i am depressed that everyone compliments on his weight loss and here i am big as ever..
  6. sorry.karen... what does NSVs stand for... still pretty new to this forum so i don't know all the abbreviations... yet.. lol THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS GANG...

    Solids Stage Recipes

I am trying to figure how I can make steak for me and my hubby we are both banded and just crave meat.. but can't figure out how to cook steak that is tender enough for us to eat.
  8. ok... guys here's the deal i started my appts to get the lapbadn done in december and then at the end of december i had a tumor removed and am currently undergoing chemo/radiation.... i have continued to do my required monthly appts and have just found out that the surgeon will need a note from my oncologist to continue to do the procedure. i am just wondering if anyone else has had anything similiar to my situation happen to them? i have not lost very much weight since december only like 3 lbs... i will be on chemo/radiation for another 3 weeks then start a 4 months chemo plan.

just curious as to what is the video of?is it the general info on the lapband or is it an actual surgery of someone having the procedure done? i started to watch a video of the actual procedure being done one someone and got scared and stopped watching after about 15 seconds cause it showed the dr stuffing his finger in one of the laproscopic holes ... freaked me out a bit but i am really curious about seeing it but am afraid it will scare me out of wanting to do it? lol any prebandsters watched a video of a an actual procedure?

Wish Me Luck! Big Day Is TOMORROW!!

cgreen43.... glad you are doing well... hope you feel more like yourself soon..... i noticed you said something about the "patch working well"... just curious as to what kind of patch??? good luck to all the other future bandsters this week... prays for all that things go well. my husband and i have our sleep study and 2 appt done on Jan. 7 and 8th... that will be 2 appts down and 2 to go... i am so ready to get them done with so we can get approval from ins and a surgery date schedule.... so ready to get rid of the weight.
  12. :thumbup:my hubby and i both attended our first consultation to see if we are candidates for lapband.... his BMI is 41.7 and mine is 40.3.... we are both candidates and from what I understand our ins. does cover the procedure it appears there is a 4 month waiting period in which we will have to have monthly dr appts with nutritionist and psycological evaluations as well as other testing.... the staff said for us to maintain our current weights and that ( can you believe it) I could stand to gain about 5 lbs... THE ONLY TIME IN MY LIFE THAT GAINING WEIGHT WOULD BE A GOOD THING.. lol... we go next month for another dr appt and also for a sleep study... i guess the sleep study is that they can be sure we are healthy enough to be put under??? from what i understood... we are both very eager to have the band and we are ready to start our NEW LIFE together. I am glad we are doing it together so that we can be on the same page and also encourage each other but we will also be more understanding and sympathetic of what the other person is going to experience with this new journey of our lives. I would like to hear from other couples of how their process went to get banded and how they are doing now. we have been married 15 yr and I am so excited that this procedure will allow us to live a happy, healthier longer life together. we have chosen to go through TRUE RESULTS in Dallas, Tx and to use Dr. Benavidez... any questions or comments on Dr. B would be appreciated. thanks to all
  13. hey gang... just for my first consultation and I know it's a little soon but i noticed on another thread someone said they were ready for their procedure and all packed up and had their post op goodies all ready to go I was just curious as to what other people had READY TO GO for the first few days after their procedure. I will be going 400 miles away for my procedure and will be in a hotel for the first 2 days and then staying at my families house for the next day or so... just curious as to what I need to start gathering up for my POST OP GOODIES... i have already decided I need to purchase a really good juicer/smoothie maker for the mushy stage any tips on what guys used to MAKE YOUR MUSHY STUFF? Thanks gang!

I know it's a little earlier in my planning but my husband and I are both having the procedure done at the same time so I wanted to know what I needed to purchase ahead of time and since I have to get double the supplies this will allow me to buy a little at a time before the big day... thank a bunch GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
  16. Ok here's a question..... I am curious as to what activities people are participating in after they heal from their procedure... I am mainly interested if people are doing contact sports and high impact sports? thanks

    Big Questions.....Thank You

i went to a seminar and submitted my ins info them the night of the semimar... they took my info and called me a few wks later and said that my ins. does cover the procedure. there are several steps that the ins. requires so our first step was the consultation which we held with the dr. office last friday. so now we are required to attend a once a month appt with them to consist of sleep study, nutritional sessions, psych evals. and then after the 4 appt (4months) dr's staff will submit all the info to the ins for approval...they said our ins is good at aprproval if the steps are followed and that after submission it only takes them about 3-4 days to approve it and then we can schedule the procedure. again every ins. is different but this is how ours works. so i hope this info helps. FUTURE BANDER hopefully my band date is MARCH 2010
  20. ok well my hubby and i went to the initial consultation last week..... we were told that we are both candidates as far as our BMI is concerned and they did our initial visit , scheduled us for sleep study and for our first of 3 more appts that are required for our insurance to cover the procedure. I find myself very excited,. anxious and eager to have the procedure done. I am just wondering if we should NOT get our hopes up until we get ins. approval???? what do you guys think?
  21. i am not banded yet but just had my first consultation the Dr. told me and my husband that men lose weight faster which we both knew... but that we would be at our target weight within the first year... so that was a huge boost to look forward to... i started thinking OMG this time next year I can be way healthier and feel so much better. not to mention the obvious of looking better... as far as eating and drinking he said we would do a 2 weeks preop diet of mainly liquids and then for about the first few days after liquids then for the first week or 2 mushy foods and then we would gradually be able to add solid foods back in he said the only thing that you will probably not want to eat again.. would be things with white flour ... because white flour and Water essentially makes paste and so that leaves out a few favs but I think we can live without if it means a happier, healthier longer life together.

SO Stressed and Cannot Stop Eating!

:thumbup:I can totally relate you. I don't know how I got this big either...... i know it sounds funny but sometimes i feel like I just woke up one day and couldn't fit into any of my clothes. i am sure you as well as 99% of us have all tried every diet under the sun and that's why we need this TOOL... please do not bash yourself over how we got this way but focus on that YOU ARE AT LEAST BRAVE ENOUGH, AND COMMITTED AND DETERMINED ENOUGH TO USE THIS TOOL! That takes major guts.... YOU ARE STILL A BRIGHT, AMAZING PERSON you as well as me and others are just people that need an extra tool to lose some weight. I don't remember if it was something I read on another lapband site but it said that like 90% of people that try diets lose weight only to gain it back plus some..... 5% don't lose any and the other 5% lose it and keep it off..... so really when you think about it we are a majority in that we need help (lapband) to lose weight and keep it off. I am so proud of you for airing your concerns and I think your are going to be glad you decided to go ahead with the procedure. Best wishes!

    Couples being banded??

thanks for all the great comments and info please keep it coming..... I would like to say that I AM GETTING VERY EXCITED and wish we didn't have to wait til MARCH for our last visit before we can get scheduled I am hoping we can get banded at the end of March.... we have decided to do it on the same day and have my mom stay with us at the hotel...as we will be driving 400 miles to have the procedures done and the dr requires us to stay in town for a few days after the procedure. The other good part is that my mom doesn't live very far from the town where the procedure is taking place so we will probably stay with her for a day or so after the 2 days in the hotel. One thing I forgot to mention is that my husband has a history fo medical issues in his family and mine has diabetes and Hbp So we are looking forward to the health issues getting better with the weight loss...... we both realize it will not be an easy road but we are anxious and ready for our LIFE CHANGE!!!!
