Smoking Cigarettes
Billy363627 replied to warrior68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc made me quit for 2 months prior to surgery. He even made sure that I wasn't smoking by doing a tox screen and told me that if it showed that I had nicotene in my system he would cancel my surgery. I have been soo long without a cig I really don't want one now.. I think cigs are in your head. of course you have to concentrate on other things if not you will consumed with wanting a smoke.. I hated having to give them up but I'm not putting another one of them nasty things in my mouth again.. And yes I gave up cigs, caffeine, food ,cokes, you can do it if you are commited to having this sugery and commiting to a healtier life.. Guess what it is an awesome time to quit smoking.. And yes you are talking to a 15 plus year smoker so I know your pain...... -
I read a lot of posts and people say that your body don't really start to suffer until your about a month out with little to none protein.. I would highly reccomend that you turn it around and start getting the needed protein in because it will affect your muscle mass and instead of losing fat weight you will be losing muscle weight. There are soo many foods that are loaded with proteins (carb master yougurt, greek yogurt, milk, some sugar free puddings. Are you having problems with protein shakes? I am on thick liquids and I am only having to drink one protein shake a day..

Do you still enjoy wine (or alchohol in general) after sleeve?
Billy363627 replied to johnm's topic in Food and Nutrition
Well from reading posts I think your suppose to wait 3 to 6 months after sugery before having wine . Also red wines contain tannic acid and the ph is different so I would avoid red wines for a while.. Tiffkins I am taking this from a post that you made a long time ago.. I don't believe that this kills red wine forever. I am truely a avid red wine drinker and this would be a shot below the belt if I could never have it again.. I am probably waiting myself until around the 6 month mark I really don't want to cause any unforseen problems with my sleeve.. -
I was told 2 week clear,2 weeks thick liquids, 2 weeks soft foods and then regular foods... I am doing what my doc said because I too do not want to damage my new sleeve or get a leak... I know it is hard but you have come soo far what is a little longer going to hurt you. I know there are a few people here that has advanced before they were suppose to. I just don't think it is worth rolling the dice...

2 days out I was pulling in 30 oz of water in. I know it is hard right now but you have to push yourself..I would try to increase my water intake by 5 to 10 ounces per day until i got to 60 ounces. I didn't mess with protein until I got to 60 ounces of water. You have to make sure you sip sip sip and sip every minute of the day.. You need to to walk as much as you can even if you have to go out side and walk down to the end of the street. The more you walk the sooner you will heal and the quicker your pain will go away..I know right now it is very hard but you should be on top of your water within a week..You can do it..

well if there is a Gnc close by or you can ask if there is one in the area. They will hook you up with anything protein you need.. I know if there is a walmart close by you can get the Julian Michaels protein. I think the best bet for you is goint to Gnc they are very plentyful around the Us.

you might want to check on the box because some people have had problems with mixing it. It seems after really high temps it don't mix well. I would cool down my coffee quite a bit and when you get it mixed up then heat it back up...just my thoughts. I believe they said any thing over 180 degrees will not mix well..

OMG please tell me it's normal and will go away...
Billy363627 replied to MommyTawnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you not taking a ppi you should talk with your doc to see if he can get you on one.. -
they usually recommend anything sugar free..the sugar is the key issue involved. Since you are in the uk do you have like vitamen water, something like that . Most surgeons worry about a lot of people intake a lot of sugar in their drinks..I know yall have iced tea right. I take defcafe iced tea and a sugar substitute.

Billy363627 replied to DazyKrazie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think 3 weeks is a good recovery for those who have desk jobs or teachers etc. I do heavy lifting and they said I could go back to work after 4 weeks..To answer your question I think it is going to be hard being heavy all my life and looking at my self thin.. It is going to be hard..I just don't know how to answer this but it is going to be a challenge when I gett to that point..if you look through this site I did post on that exact thing a while back and others commented so you can see their opinions..I think that this is a very good thing to do for yourself and if you follow the guidelines you will be fine . Good luck and keep us posted -

Can I start mushies a day early?
Billy363627 replied to DougNichols's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand wanting to start early. I am going with my doctor..2 weeks clears 2 weeks thick clears, 2 weeks soft foods, then regular food.. I don't want a couple of days to get in my way of healing..I guess I am a buzz kill..lol I just don't want a delay to me getting regular foods because I jumped the gun..I am not borrowing any trouble for a couple of days. -

Hello Newbie here!!
Billy363627 replied to Can'tweight's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cant weight I did have a hard time the first week. I am getting in around 60 to 70 grams per day in now..When I was in the hospital for the first two days i was having pain, nausea and heart burn but they got some good meds out there for these symptoms. I didn't vomit not one time.. I know that everyone is different. The day that I left the hospital I was only drinking 30 ounces of Water so I said to myself that I was not going to let this beat me..I progressed 10 ounces a day until I got to my goal. well it took me to the weekend and that monday I started making Protein shakes with water (the shake also counts as water if you use water to make it) so by the end of the day I was getting 60 grams of protein and 64 ounces of water..I suggest you find a really good Protein Drink that taste to your standards. I use GNC wheybolic extreme 60 amlified. I can't tell you if you will like it but I really do like the taste with water or milk added. The best flavor I have found was chochlate it almost tastes close to choclate milk . "Trust me if you make it through all the hoops to have this surgery and through all the liquid diet you will do fine. Good luck and keep us posted -
pretty much when you take liquids in liquids come out...lol but you will be posting when you get on solid foods asking why can't I poop at all...

Ummm insult or compliment
Billy363627 replied to thinoneday's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
thin I would think it would be a compliment..Wow if you used to do this all the time then maybe it would boost your self esteem to get back into the grind. Just think it would definitely tighten all the things you needed tightened up. Good luck and take it as a compliment I would.. -
Puree and Mushy Foods
Billy363627 replied to Deets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't get me wrong but I think mushy foods are like tuna, canned chicken, salmon, things that can be pulled apart easy with a fork. I think puree foods are like soup you put in a food possessor, or food that has got to the point of liquid.. To be honest there is not a whole lot of difference other that you have to chew the mushies up a little.. I know the definition of the two are not that clear so I am going on the definition I'm telling you..Maybe some more veteren sleevers may have a better definition than I do -
Lost weight but belly is the same?
Billy363627 replied to brazcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well first of all the surgery creates a lot of swelling and most your inital body weight is going to be water. Second we didn't become overweight all at one time.. It takes time to get everything going. Right now you need to concentrate more on healing and getting to the point where you can get to solid foods. Right now you cant even control the amount of calories in your diet. I have only been able to get in no more than about 400 calories a day. I know that I have got to get to around 800-1200 calories a day before I can get my weight going in the opposite direction. Right now I cant get that many with liquids..So don't really be that hard on yourself.. Let yourself heal
