  1. Thanks for posting your experience . . . I haven't had anything stuck so far, but will keep this in mind should that occur . . . in fact, I'm thinking that I don't have much restriction but the doc on my first fill put 5cc and I think I have either the 12 or 14 cc band. Since the fill, I haven't been able to tell much difference....maybe another fill???
  2. Thanks to all of you who posted about the "all of a sudden, can't get enough" thing with peanut butter. As soon as I finish this message, I'm going to throw away what's left, so it won't be here calling my name so loudly. I appreciate all your comments about stuff I just never thought beomg a problem . . . sliders . . . I know I can't have ice cream in the house because it would be the super slider of all time. You've helped me a lot!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Just wonderful to read about everyone's success since banding. Keep up the good work!!!!! :thumbup:You all inspire me!!! THANK YOU! I got my first fill last Friday, the 26th, and so far, so good. I have a 12cc band, and got a 5cc fill . . . my doctor did this under a floroscope (sp?) and didn't take too long to find the port and judge by the speed of the barium going down how much of a fill that I needed. Hoping that getting almost half full for the first fill isn't a bad thing, but I really like and trust my doctor, so maybe I'm worrying needlessly. Today I return to regular diet, so hope I'll get full really quick and will go over the diet/food guidelines as I really am afraid of anything getting stuck. Did anyone else get this much of a fill for the first time?

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

CherieLynn: THANKS so much for posting about the green bean getting stuck . . . I don't get my first fill until this Friday, 2/26, and since I've had no restriction since the surgery swelling, I have been eating way too fast, not chewing enough..... want to avoid what you experienced . . . thanks for sharing . . . so I can focus on small bites and chewing. Also, welcome to those just beginning to post, thank you! . . . you all help me so much!!!

    New 60+ Thread

Wishing much success to those of you getting banded this week . . . this site has been really helpful for me, as I'm sure you'll find too. So many of my questons and/or concerns answered. I was banded Jan. 12 and see my doctor Feb. 26 for the first fill....am looking forward to this as I have no restriction now. Thanks to all for sharing your experience and knowledge!!
  6. Lalmom: Compared to how I'm doing, you're doing great with the exercising and your food intake . . . I was banded on Jan. 12 too and after I went to soft foods, I think I've gone downhill since....not controlling my portions and the hunger creeps up. I guess I just wanted to feel like I did for the first 2.5 to 2 wks...not hungry and only able to eat small portion until the fullness began. So I see my doctor this coming Friday and will be asking for a fill, although I understand some doctors don't do fills until six weeks post-op.....OMG, hope my doc is not one of these!!! I understand your frustration and am going to try and pattern my eating/exercising after your good example! Keep up the good work.
  7. Banded on Jan. 12...have been happy since as I was losing weight (24 lbs. post pre- and post-op) but last night I couldn't get full enough....had beans, cheese, salsa, onions, l/f sour cream...two servings...and now I'm just really down and feel like crying....had the Carnation Instant Breakfast this morning and now feel like I shouldn't eat anything to combat my screw up last night....see my doctor on Feb. 12; hunger and no restriction...is this bandster hell? How do I get out of it? My depression is awful; I don't want to leave my house. If you've gone through this, please tell me how you handled it. I feel like a failure again.:sifone:
  8. Thank you so much for your message. Your words hit home! I appreciate it so much and will regain the confidence I've had in myself up until now. I really hope for a fill when I see the doctor but I've heard that the first fill might not come until six wks post-op. I know I have to deal with whatever is ahead of me and try to make better choices, which I've been pretty good with . . . looking ahead seems to be the key and basing choices on what will be rather than what is at the moment. So, I'll work today on getting this "pity party" finished...maybe starting by getting dressed and leaving the house, walking around the mall or something. thanks again! and congratulations on the terrific job you have done as you're almost at goal....GREAT!!!!
  9. Hey Perfect 10 in '10! Good to hear from you . . . I know what you mean about the hunger . . . my main problem now is being able to eat larger amount than I'm supposed to . . . see my doc on feb. 12 and hoping for a fill. When will you have a fill? For me, it's like there is no resriction, however, I'm trying to eat healthy stuff, just too much of it!!! Keep in touch, please!!!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hey . . . there is a Jan Band Journey group under the social heading for those having been banded in January . . . you might want to check it out!

    Getting there

I'm fairly new here....banded on Jan. 12....my surgery was a breeze, hope yours is too! Only had to take pain medicagtion once when I first got home; no nausea. Just really sore for about week and a half . . . I am feeling great now and looking forward to my first fill. Wishing smooth sailing for you.

    Banded recently

Hey Cristina . . . know what you mean about hunger as you wait for your first fill....I was banded on Jan. 12, so we both about three weeks out since surgery....I see my doc on Feb. 12 and I'm hoping for a fill. My meals aren't lasting hunger-wise as they did right after the surgery and I can eat more before feeling full. So, good luck to you and keep posting. This site has provided me with so much info and it just feels good to share with others who are going through the same stuff. Cheers! Barbara

Thanks Judy for the suggestion . . . will take a look. I just need more discipline when it comes to keeping up with what I'm eating...and know if I get in the habit, it will stick...so here goes!!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hey BetsyB: Definitely room for many more January bandsters!! I'm fairly new to this site also; was banded on Jan. 12; and see my doctor also on Feb. 12 for what I hope will be a first fill. I'm beginning to get hungry too, so the fill can't get here fast enough! I've lost almost 20 lbs. since December; how about you? I'm not exercising, and think it would be a lot more if I'd do this....it's in the plan!!! This change in our lives is definitely a journey, so we all need to make the best of it! Let us hear from you.
  15. Hello CMyers! I'm in Georgia too. . . near Athens, and was banded at Emory Midtown Atlanta on Jan. 12. There's so much info here, so there's no need for me to lose sleep over a question I have...I just come to this site. Sounds like you're doing well with 30 lbs. gone two months post-op. Keep up good work, and please do not say that you're set in your ways (I'm a couple years older than you) and we got the power to do what we want...even make those changes!!! It's good to discuss things with people in the same boat!! I cannot do this except with my sister and a couple of friends, so the support of this site is really important to me. Please keep posting and let us know how you're doing!

    January 2010 bandsters...

Hello . . . there's several of you just banded or about to be this next week . . . good luck to you all. I was banded on Jan. 12, so I'm new at this. The actual surgery never was a main concern of mine (guess I've had too many already), but the pre- and post-diet of liquids (clear, then clear/full, then etc.) Now I'm on soft food and things are going well. One of the problems for me is not keeping up w/what I'm eating....I'm eating very little, and hardly have a real hungry episode....little meals several times a day seems to work. Looking for get first fill on Feb. 12. :cursing: Also, under Community on main page, there is a JAN BAND JOURNEYS group...think about this as well to see how all of us banded in January are doing, and of course, let me know what's going on with you! Cheers to all. :scared2:

Madegraw: is this your first fill? If so, how long since your surgery? I see my doctor on Feb. 12 and I'm hoping it will be my first fill....however, sorry to hear that only liquids are your friend right now! Take care. KarenIn: thank for the suggestion about Spark people....will check into it to keep my food log. Thanks to all who post . . .

    Sleep Apnea?!?

Hey Ash23... I also have sleep apnea, diagnosed about six yrs. ago. Prior to diagnosis, I snored like a freight train and was so tired regardless of the number of hours I slept. I would almost go to sleep as soon as I got home from work; wake up for a while then go to bed. The really low energy and tiredness was awful. Within two weeks of using the cpap machine, I felt great. I sleep in it close to 100% of time (except when my nose is congested, then I use spray to clear up before bedtime). The CPAP takes some getting used to, but sleep apnea is a serious problem as it affects all your major organs and left untreated is not a good for your overall health. Losing weight will certainly help and might even eliminate your apnea. My doctor and I are hoping this is my case, or if weight loss doesn't do it totally, he says that just an appliance type thing that goes in my mouth at night is a possibility. Getting banded and getting this weight off is being done primarily to reverse my sleep apnea. Please hang in there, cheer up,and just go with right now....as you weight goes down, you may reverse the apnea too.....let us hear how you're doing. Sorry to be so long with this. You'll be okay.
  19. My surgery was Jan. 12 . . . my doctor said 7 days on Carnation Instant Breakfast, and nurse said 7-10 days on it, with one drink within an hour of waking up, then every three hours until I hit 1000 to 1200 calories....did this fairly easily and I think it helped alot. It's like a head start! Good luck!

Thanks to all for your welcome and comments. Before surgery, during the liquid nine days, I did keep up w/what I was having/time/date. But after surgery, and now today when I begin soft stage, I haven't kept up except in my head (bad idea, I know, as it never worked before!! ). Good idea to write it all down! Thanks for mentioning this.

    drinking and the lap band

Hey Sunny Day, red wine (as it's known for being healthy) or vodka and Water, then add drink mix (bring your own no sugar drink mix, i.e., Crystal Light, Hawaiin punch etc.). Yep, stay away from the regular mixed drinks...way too much sugar on top of the alcohol calories. I'm newly banded and on two occasions, I've had this. Right or wrong, there's lots of social occasions and that go to drink just makes sense for me (or, of course, abstain w/water and lime/lemon) Good luck to you!

    New 60+ Thread

Hello all . . . would like to be in this group . . . I turned 62 yesterday and it's good to hear from those closer to my age. I was banded on Jan. 12 in Atlanta at Emory Midtown Hospital. Lost some weight prior to surgery w/pre-op liquid and have lost around 16 lbs. so far. I don't see my doctor until Feb. 12, so I don't know what to expect between now and then regarding hunger, etc. when all the swelling goes away; so I don't know if there will be a fill on th 12th...how is that determined? Looking forward to sharing on this group. Thanks for reading this!
  23. Cont'd to Dawn:

Hope you're feeling better . . . when will you see your doctor again? I don't go back until Feb. 12, so I know that once all my swelling goes down, the hunger is going to really start, that's why, having little protein meals six times a day is my answer...now I just got to do it. Yes,definitely keep in touch...I get a little confused with this web site and the threads, somehow I think I lose people and postings :o), anyhow, let me hear from you!!

  24. Hey Dawn, thanks for the birthday wishes . . . it was a good day. My friends took me to a movie last night and I was worried, but made it through by taking in my yogurt and applesauce. The popcorn smell didn't bother me...very surprised about this.

Sorry to hear about the hernia, and no doubt has slowed down your recovery a lot. Yep, probably a bit too early for the lean cuisine, and yes, you (and me too) will learn...so please don't say "never learn" ! Are you using the GasX for bloating? Maybe that will help....I haven't had any nausea, but did have the gas, which GasX took care of....a little shoulder pain, but not much....only had one dose of pain medication once I got home....so the soreness has been bad to deal with, but has almost gone away. Cont'd next post...

  25. I think you will be alright with such small additions and plus you've lost weight no doubt, so I wouldn't worry about it, as on my pre-op, I screwed up big time for one meal, and it didn't affect me as I lost weight anyhow....just my opinion, no medical knowledge backing it!!!! Good luck!:w00t:
