    March Bandster Updates

I had my surgery on March 22nd and I went back to work yesterday. My incisions are a bit tender but not too unbearable. It's the darn GAS that is killing me. I keep feeling like I need to burp but I physically CAN'T. So, Gas-X and I are best friends right now. My doctor only had me do Clear Liquids 1 day and then on to mushies/pureed foods. So, I've been on those for a few days. I've been adding Protein powder to everything I can get my hands on. Right now, I'm about 2 lbs down from my surgery day weight, but I also just got a visit from Mother Nature, so I'm hoping maybe she brought 2 - 3 lbs with her that will go bye bye when she leaves. Yesterday I went for a good walk during lunch at work. Might do it today, too. I'm still trying to get that gas bubble out. It's so good to hear about everyone's successes! It's so inspirational to me!

    What do you all do?

I work full-time as an Ecommerce Marketing Manager for a media company. (Essentially on magazines) I'm also a wife and a mom to two beautiful girls, ages 4 and 9.
  3. Whoo hoo a Gator! I'm from Cincinnati but my husband and I are BIG gator fans! I LOVE Tim Tebow. He's been a gator fan since he was 5 years old. We're actually planning a trip down to Gainesville in September for him to see the Gators play at the Swamp! And like you, I'm having hiccups and they HURT LIKE ALL GET OUT! But, the gas pain is the worst. I told one of my co-workers that I keep considering stabbing myself in the shoulder to release the gas pain. LOL!
  4. Congrats on your band! Sounds like you're doing well. I was banded on 3/22 and today was my first day back to work! OK - gas pains are KILLING me. My shoulder is SO sore and I feel like I keep getting gas in and out of my stomach. It hurts. I've been walking and I still have that pain.
  5. I weigh excessively because it helps to keep me on track. I've always been that way. If I quit doing it, then I'll go back to old habits or just say "oh my pants aren't tight - they shrunk" when in reality, they didn't. My waist expanded. LOL! I keep my scale in my bathroom and every morning it comes out. I have the Weight Watchers scale that's glass and digital. LOVE that thing! It was like $25 at costco.

    Banding Today!

Congratulations! It will all be over with before you realize it and you'll be banded! I was banded on Monday and I just went back to work today. It's rough (the gas pains!) but it's so worth it. Can't wait to do this journey with you! :Banane20:

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Thinking of you today! It will all go smoothly! :Banane20:
  8. I'm happy to know I'm not the only one still having gas pains. I tell you - they are HORRID. I feel like I'm being stabbed in the shoulder. I also keep feeling like I need to burp and can't. So, then I get this gas pain that hurts. I'm going to try to go back to work tomorrow. Praying that works well. :Banane20:
  9. It's honestly not that bad. You still get the same taste, just already mushed for you. I am SO glad that I bought this thing when I did. I think later I'm going to use it for some Protein shakes and stuff.
  10. I think it happens to the best of us. Just think, you're still under 200 lbs, so that is awesome! I would do just like you said - refocus, etc. I'm only 1 day out from my band - praying that I see a magic number under 200 at some point. I always like to use the famous line from "Finding Nemo"...Just keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming.
  11. Awesome! I'm doing the pureed, but they're pretty liquid. I can pour it off of a spoon. What I did is my mom made me three types of Soups and we added Protein powder to each of them to give me the 80 grams of protein a day. I had my veggie soup today (that way I get some fiber!) but like I said - it's pouring off of a spoon. LOL! The thing is - I'm not really hungry. I think two to three weeks of this should be fine. I also reconnected with a friend that has lost 166 lbs! She had gastric bypass and was telling me that it's really hard when people keep asking you questions. I hope to lose enough to where someone asks me something. LOL!
  12. Praying for you Diva! MWAH! Let's see...I had the surgery yesterday morning at 10 am and he had to fix a hernia, too. I was home by 1:00. I think we left around 12:30 and it was because I told them I wanted to GO home. I'm one of those people that prefers to be at home. Yesterday I would get up, walk, take some sips of Water, my vicodin and then go back to bed. LOL! Today, I'm trying to wean off of the vicodin but the gas pains still hurt. I did get up and make some sf/ff pudding with some cool whip for my meals later. I'm allowed pureed foods today so I'm debating what to have. My mom (aka the most wonderful woman in the world) made me a ton of Soups with Protein powder, etc. So, I have food! Did I mention how much I love that woman! She also has my little ones, and I cried yesterday telling her how much she means to me. I am sore in my stomach but truthfully - it's not that bad. It's tolerable pain. My port incision is probably the worst. The only thing is that I'm scared to take off my bandages. LOL! When my 9 year old gets here I'll take a shower. She's really good about helping mom. Husband is at work today but I have my phone with me and he keeps calling to check in on me. I'm probably going to go back to work on Thursday. As long as I'm halfway functional, I'm good. I was also excited to learn that I lost almost 14 lbs on my pre-op diet. Whoo hoo!!!! Now my big journey begins. I would love nothing more than to be down 100 lbs by this time next year. (PRAYING!) Can't wait to hear how everyone else is doing! Ginger
  13. I've got to drop off my girls and then I'm off to the surgical center! Praying everything goes well and praying for the others getting their band today! Can't wait to join all of you other bandsters!
  14. They probably think that they are complimenting you. I could see that being the case. Where they're saying "You have this great figure..." etc. But, I'm sure it can get annoying because think about it. We've spent a lot of time covering up our bodies because of our weight. That mentality is not going to change overnight. You need time to get comfortable in your skin. Maybe tell them that. Just say "you know - I'm not ready for this yet but when I do get ready, you'll be the FIRST to know" and say it a bit sarcastically. Maybe they'll back off. You've obviously succeeded very well at your band (I hope to have the same type of story!!!) so just keep remembering that!

    Coffee?

The only thing my nutritionist said was to go decaf because caffeine makes you hungry. I'm not a coffee person so it was not a big deal for me, but I did take notes because sometimes I do like a fancy coffee. (Starbucks!)
  16. Checking in to see how all of my fellow 3/22 bandsters are doing! I'm up and moving around. Trying to wean off of the Vicodin today. We'll see how that goes. LOL! My worst pain is the shoulder pain from the gas- hands down! I'm cleared for pureed foods today. Might try some liquid Soup here in a bit. My stomach is starting to growl. Port pain is a bit tender, too. But, all in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought.
  17. Bumping up in case anyone needs Medifast. I had my surgery yesterday and lost almost 14 lbs on my pre-op diet. Have a ton left! See original post.
  18. I hope this doesn't violate any TOU or anything, but I have leftover Medifast. My surgery is tomorrow and I have a TON left over. (Probably over $125 worth - UGH) I have top pancake mix, marshmallow hot chocolate, amaretto hot chocolate, swiss chocolate pudding, vegetable beef stew, chicken pasta soup mix, and cream of chicken mix. Oh - and some chocolate marshmallow bars. I probably have almost 2 weeks' worth. I thought I'd offer it up here because I don't think I can return it and honestly this stuff is EXPENSIVE. My surgical date is tomorrow. I don't have a price in mind - just make an offer if you're interested. I supplemented a lot with broth from soups. The chicken soup is better with chicken broth and the swiss chocolate shakes/pudding are better as pudding in my opinion. Each serving is individually wrapped. I can give you a full breakdown and post photos if you're interested. Just let me know. Oh - and the Amaretto Hot Chocolate is the tastiest by far!

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Hi everyone! I'm home. Had my surgery this morning with Dr. Trace Curry. I had a hernia that they had to repair, so I got a little more stomach gas they said. I have to say, that is the worst part of the whole thing so far. My port incision is a bit sore but not unbearable. I hate to be TMI, but I have never prayed so hard to fart in my entire life! :tt1: I have a heating pad and a thermacare on my shoulder trying to break it up and keep getting up and walking around. The walking isn't bad, either. Just that darn gas!

    Looking for good doc

I had my surgery today with Dr. Trace Curry in Cincinnati. His site is thelapbanddoctor.com I believe. Just google him - he's fabulous. My family physician highly recommended him, too. His package price is $13K and that includes fills for 2 years. He has people come in from all over.
  21. Thanks! Let's see...I went to seminar in December, then had my consult on 1/20. I did the psyche and everything that day. They submitted it two weeks later and within two weeks, I had approval. All in all, it was almost 2 months to the day. :tt1: I have anthem BCBS, too!
  22. Well, I'm home. :tt1: Got a lot of gas pain and am a bit loopy but am home. sort of sad that there were no replies here.
  23. I know this might be a goofy question but I'm trying to plan my time off. My surgery is scheduled for the 22nd, which is a Monday. I had planned to take the 22nd and 23rd off (obviously) but make an attempt to come into the office on the third day. Am I nuts? LOL! I have a feeling I'll be working from home, but I wanted to see what everyone else did. I've heard stories from 2 days off to full weeks. I'd like to hear it from real bandsters. I'm trying to figure out what to expect. As a side note, I have a desk job, so it's not that intense. And I tend to heal fairly quickly after surgery. When I had both of my children, I was up within 20 minutes and out of the hospital in 24 hours. I couldn't stand to just sit around. So, what did you do? (Or are going to do?)
  24. Would love to be band buddies! Good luck on your surgery on Tuesday and I will be thinking of you! :) (Oh and I <3 disney, too! I have Ariel tattooed on my back) ;)

  25. I thought about it but we have clear liquids one day, then pureed for 2 weeks then soft foods. My mom made me a ton of high-protein pureed meals for my next two weeks. (I went and bought the ingredients and the whey - she made everything) I have it divided into 1 cup portions for my meals. I don't think I could do another 2 weeks of medifast. LOL!
