Sorry - should have clarified - my mom (who is 71) slipped up and said "she's out of surgery and they fixed her hernia, too" so she didn't say what surgery I had. All she said was that I had my hernia fixed, too. What I had told the in-laws was that I was having hernia surgery. Hence, why they interrogated him the minute they got him alone. Of course, my husband is a closet smoker and his parents would FREAK if they knew. Of course, each time my kids made a comment about it and his parents freaked out, I covered for him telling them one excuse or another, so they think their son doesn't smoke. I told him I was expecting the same sort of protection. That's all. (My husband even said my mom was innocent in it - he admitted that part) Trust me - it's not a male-bashing moment. He's a good guy good dad, etc. But, it's the fact that he won't stand up to his family that makes me more mad than anything.

2 pounds on 2 pounds off......frustrated!!
gingerjane replied to Megg40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having the same frustration and I'm a week out from my banding. I think that our bodies are adjusting and that they will eventually line out. I was excited on Friday to see that I was down 2 lbs from my pre-surgical weight only to find this morning that they're back. I just keep plugging away and figure that my body will eventually catch-up to what is going on. It just takes some time. Plus, we won't have our first fills for a while, so that's when the REAL restriction starts. Right now is just practice. -
Ladies what do you call your husbands manhood.
gingerjane replied to Lisa73's topic in The Gals' Room
Ok - I can't believe I'm posting this because my husband would kill me but sometimes when we're laughing and having a good time, I call him "cockus erectus". I know- bad girl! -
Ooohhhh! Someone who's almost on the same path as me. How much do you have to lose? I have a little over 100 to lose (like 106) before I hit my ideal goal.
And yes - I'm TOTALLY into photography. I have two girls, been married for 12 years (yes - I was practically a CHILD when I got married) and I love design and photography.
Keep in touch!

Available Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Would love to help others reach their goal
gingerjane replied to AlisonL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Alison! Congrats on your success! I hope to be able to say that one day! So regarding the drinking. How long after your meals do you wait? Right now I'm holding off a half hour. I've only had my band for a week so I think it's doing pretty well (obviously I don't have any restriction right now so I'm trying to work it with willpower) and wondered if I should wait longer. Do you have a set time? Ginger -
hi, new to the forum. had surgery 4 days ago
gingerjane replied to Laura1999's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Laura! I was banded on 3/22, so we're pretty close to the same surgery date. I also have two little ones. My oldest is 9 and my youngest is four and it can be VERY hard sometimes to prep their food and then create something different for yourself. Been there, done that. It's getting better, and I have to remember not to graze off of their plates, either. (I swear that's a MOM thing!) Sounds like you have a supportive hubby and that things are going well! That's great! I have to say, this board has been a lifesaver for me. Everyone seems very sweet and we're all in the same boat! Ginger -
New and Confused and thinking....
gingerjane replied to tab1975's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey girl! Welcome aboard! I, too, have PCOS and am actually not doing too bad getting in my Protein. I think when you're poly-cystic, lower carbs and higher protein is better for you and it's the type of "diet" that works. I'm like you - I HATE yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I do like milk, but hate the taste of a lot of protein powders so I have to get creative. I do supplement my diet with a lot of low-fat cheese. I love LF string cheese as well as some of the low-fat cheeses that you can get - look for Sargento's, etc. They will have slices in a variety that are reduced fat. Truthfully - to get my protein in pre-band (and post-band once I go to more "solid" foods) I'll be eating a LOT of turkey and chicken. I even ate a number of just turkey slices. If you look on the package and get ones without fillers (I used Sara Lee) I think 4 slices of turkey was only 50 calories but almost 7 or 10 grams of protein. It's a quick way to get the protein in and if you savor the slices, it will hold you over for a while. (I like to eat them with a slice of low-fat provolone) There are also some flavorless protein powders that you can add to a lot of food. I found some at GNC and add it to a number of things. You can't taste it in Spaghetti sauce when you blend it in and I believe it's Ronzoni Smart Taste has about 10 grams of protein per serving. Hope those ideas help! I have more if you want, just let me know! Ginger -

Lost 39 pounds(!!) but I don't get it?
gingerjane replied to a dairyfarmers chubbywife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm in the same boat. I was just banded on 3/22 but with pre-op diet, etc., I've lost about 18 lbs. Still wearing the same crap I was before. I probably won't see a difference for another 20 lbs, and then that will only be 1 size if I'm lucky. I think that we'll reach a spot where the sizes will transform rapidly with each pound we lose. Right now I'm sure it's the starting stage where our gaps for weight loss and size reduction are bigger. At least, that's what I keep telling myself. LOL! Congrats on 29 lbs! That is AMAZING! I hope to say that next month! WOW! -
What the heck?!?! Why do people say the things that they do?
gingerjane replied to gingerjane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, this weekend was definitely a wake-up call for me in terms of judgmental people and their reactions. My husband's family found out through a slight slip-up from my mom and my husband's inability to handle interrogation. Oh - and they're nosy. Plain and simple. Now, I wait. For their first snide comment at dinner. His dad asked him "why did you lie to me about it?" He didn't ask me. Of course, did my husband tell him the truth about his being a total jerkwad when it comes to my weight and that it was my business and not his? No - he just said "she doesn't want anyone to know." I would have probably read them their beads if they asked me directly. So, it's the elephant in the room right now and you can feel the tension. Quite frankly - I don't care. After a rough weekend of freaking out over them knowing I realized one thing. Why should I let THEM control ME? I'm happy with my band. I've had it a week and can already tell that I'm going to love it. Have I really lost weight since surgery? No - but I'm down about 18 lbs total so far and it's just the beginning. Have a noticed a difference in what I'm able to eat and my hunger? Yes. That's what matters. Not the fact that some jerks who live to make other people miserable are trying to bring me down. I'm not saying I won't have my rough patches with these people. Goodness knows I will because I always have. But, I think with the help of everyone here and the support group at my doctor's office, I'll be able to overcome it. :smilielol5: So, thanks again! And I hope that we can all vent freely on this thread because we all know that all of us have experienced such CRAP over the years dealing with obesity that it's good to have a platform of those who have "been there, done that" to talk to. -
banding this week and nervous
gingerjane replied to misspeacock's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I thought I'd hop on here and share as well, as I've been banded a week today! I remember that feeling all too well. The nervousness, the "what ifs", etc. But, you know what? I'm a week out and I am so darn happy that it's not even funny. The surgery was easier than I thought first off. I was wheeled in, said hi to the anesthesiologist who told me she was going to give me something to relax me. The last thing I remember, I woke up coughing and was done. The first few days were rough with the gas and everything but guess what? I'm back to work, I'm feeling great. I'm excited to use my new "toy" as I like to call it. I'm already noticing a change in my eating habits and how I want to take care of both my band and my body. I'm looking forward to being able to shop in a store that is not specific to overweight girls. I want to be able to go on vacation and not feel like the whale sitting next to the pool. It's an amazing feeling to know that you don't always have to be hungry. Last night I even slept on my stomach. Talk about fast healing. Trust me - it will all be done and over with before you realize it and you'll be ready for the next chapter in your life. Goodness knows that I am looking forward to mine! Hang in there and if you need support, this board is amazing! I LOVE it! We'll all be there for you! -
what if i fail....?
gingerjane replied to trishfish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think all of us have that same feeling - goodness knows I went through the same thing. We've been through the up/down, up/down so much that naturally we're going to feel that way. It WILL work. Just keep telling yourself that! Plus, this is a wonderful board full of supportive people. We'll all do this together! -
I've been adding a lot of Protein to my shakes and it's definitely something that "sticks" with you longer. I made one today that has almost 30 grams! It's also fairly yummy. Here is what I did: 4 ounces of Muscle Milk (I got the creamy vanilla - pretty much no sugar, low carb and HIGH in protein - roughly 8 grams) 1 scoop of Slim Fast Ultra with protein (7 grams) 1 cup of skim milk (10 grams) 2 tbsp of cool whip lite (3 grams) I blended it with my handy-dandy magic bullet mixer and VOILA! Of course, I split it into 2 servings because I couldn't get all of the first down but it's a pretty good way to get a lot of protein. Plus, it's YUMMY! I bet you could add the Peanut Butter instead of the cool whip lite and get even MORE protein. I don't add peanut butter because sometimes I have an allergic reaction to it. (It causes me to get really nauseated and hives) There is also something called PB Max and it's a powder, and that might have protein in it, too. It might be worth looking into. I'm almost a week out and I have to say, I am LOVING my band already. I can't wait to see how this journey goes. It will get better! G

Thanks a lot everyone! I've had some time to wrap my head around everything. My husband did say that it broke his heart to tell them after they cornered him. His dad cornered him in the car the other day and he was stuck - of course, his dad has always emotionally abused him, too, and so I need to tackle this WITH my husband and not against him. So right. I guess at this point in my journey, I know that I'm doing what I need to do for myself and I need to not care what these people (or anyone else for that matter) says or thinks. What is funny is his dad who always poked fun of me, etc., is a BIG guy himself. He's just a big jackass, too. LOL! I'm so thankful for this board. Everyone is so helpful and understanding. It's nice to have a "home" where everyone knows what it's like to be ostracized in one way or another. Thank you again so much! Now - to get this weight off!
-
Thank you everyone for your support. I have to be honest, it's been a rough night. My husband and I have been arguing over it because he does not feel like he's done anything wrong and I'm still hurt. I'm still trying to wrap my mind it. I wish that his family would butt out. They are the reason for 99% of our fights.

Mine said it was fine as soon as you felt fine with doing the deed. No restrictions there. (I'm sure in the hospital was one of them - LOL!)

Hang in there - it will get better! ((HUGS)) Mine was last Monday and I'm feeling way better than I was the day after. It's almost like night and day. I would go to clear liquids for a while. Did they give you anything for nausea? You might want to call them to see if you can get some finnegran? (Spelling?)

OMG! You are an absolute inspiration! I just had my surgery on Monday and I am so excited thinking about the possibilities! WOW! YOU GO GIRL!

Reactions from friends and family are getting annoying...
gingerjane replied to Aunt Suzie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You know - I'm waiting for that to happen. I mean, I was just banded but I'm not telling my husband's family because I've heard enough of their fat insults - I don't need to give them any more ammunition. But, I'm sure that once I start losing weight where it's noticeable, the questions will start to surface. That's a good question. Not sure how to handle it. What did you do? I think on that one, I'd have to come back with something pretty snarky. Hmmm.... -
October 09 - Still a big girl :-) but I have a lot to lose :-)

Been following your blog! Such an inspiration for me. I hope to have the same success!

Congrats Ruthie! Hope you get to feeling better soon! For me, I'm 4 days out and getting around pretty well. The gas is still a pain. But, other than that - it's all good. Today was the first day that I can honestly say I was hungry. But, I ate some (my doc has pureed foods for the next two weeks) and I am fine and full. I'm trying to not drink anything - that's been the big change. I have to go eat without anything to drink near me. And a big on the liver. How funny is it that I was all asking about my liver, too. It was like we wanted a liver report card. For all that hard work of the pre-op diet, we should all get A's! Better Life - right now I can say that I'm very happy with my decision. I haven't had the first fill, yet but I am glad to have the initial surgery behind me.

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!
gingerjane replied to Rockin' Robyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums

Need some encouragment
gingerjane replied to Whillow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! I mean, you have lost 45+ pounds. That is awesome!!! So, don't beat yourself up over it. The one thing that I would think might be holding you up is that you probably need to get something in the mornings - skipping meals just slows down your metabolism. I bet if you keep adding those Protein shakes in each day, you'll see the weight come off because your body won't go into starvation mode. Especially if you're working out. I have read SO many nutritionists articles, etc., and the early morning is the most important time to fuel your body because it jumpstarts your metabolism for the day. You'll hit that 10 lbs soon and then blow past it! Look how far you've already come! I hope to see that someday soon! (in the next few months)
