2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
shadst8 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome Deb, 2beskinny, counselor, and all other new bandsters to the thread. Went for pre-op--small, funny shock happened. For years I have been thinking I was 5'5--lo and behold I am 5'3." My ticker, BMI, has been all wrong--no wonder my 6'5" husband always felt so much taller--I just thought he was taller than he thought Leigha--good job on losing weight. Thanks. I have got to search to see if after port revision you do liquids--I would assume so, but how long. I meant to ask the surgeon. Melody--hang in there. I just cannot figure out what to do--I am getting 1200-1600 calories in before exercise and scale remains unmoved this week. I was doing 60 grams of carbs--going down to 30lbs--I know 60lbs was too dang many. -

Elcee and Melody--I know what you mean. I really hate eating out now because I waste so much food. I had a dinner meeting at a Mexican restaurant. I had not really eaten all day because I was scheduled for that fill that I knew would not happen (it didn't), so thought I would be good on something small. Ate a few chips and salsa and then ordered a mini fish taco combo--I barely even finish the mini taco. I had a plate of rice and Beans left as well and looking at them made me sick. After seeing my new surgeon yesterday, I am now scheduled to have port revision surgery on January 19. I go for pre-op labs on Friday! Because he is on my insurance as a approved bariatric center, they do not even have to call and get insurance approval so that is why they scheduled me so fast. I feel bad because he has to do another friend of mine on the same day that came from the same doctor as me. He is having to clean up all of my old doctor's messes! I like my new surgeon. They take a before and after picture of you although I am like this is really not my before, but oh well. He was proud of my progress because he said that I obviously get that the band is tool that works in combination of band, diet, and exercise. The Christmas pounds were kept off. I started with low carbs today--made an egg white and turkey bacon--but did not want it. I had coffee with non-fat milk before I ate and I guess it killed my appetite--PMS/TOM is giving me restriction and an ugly pimple. Leigha--I purged my pantry too. -

Amen to no more food holidays even though my family will definitely find a reason to eat. I reduced my carbs a few days ago. I felt better, loss the few pounds I gained, and it reduced my appetite. So guess I am just carb dumb. Starting Atkins Monday if the doctor does not give me fill(pretty sure he is not). 2be I definitely am tighter during TOM. In fact it is only during TOM that I have had my two PB/sliming episodes. Congrats MaineJackie -

Welcome everyone. New Year, new start. Forgive yourself for the bad food during the holidays. That is our official pardon I actually have been doing good this week and exercised three times. Going to the doctor Monday so had to try and maintain. Losing with all the banana pudding around was not going to happen.lol Leigha-- you are right. Besides I know how to beat the system. The dog is cute, but I just like admiring others instead of my own. -

Thanks Crystl and Denise. Truthfully my need to lose that amount has everything to do with my insurance. After April, if your BMI is over 40, you cannot get full insurance. You can keep it if you have weight loss surgery or joint a gym and fitness program. I am not sure since I have already done both will I still be allowed to keep my plan, so I need to get out of the 40's just in case. Personally, I am good with my progress and losing slowly because that 113 is without having major restriction, so I like to tell the the state employee's to bite me. Like so many people our state legislature seems to think skinny equals healthy. I know a great deal of skinny people who cannot workout pass 10 minutes. Oh well. I think by April I can easily get to 39 BMI. I am so over it becauseI looked so good in my jeggings yesterday, I totally got out of my funk. -

I LOVE THE THREAD. OMG! 111 pounds = red meat an average American eats in a year and prior to that a small horse? Really I carried around a horse. Know wonder my knees use to hurt! LOL They should put a sticky on this one. Hilarious but so very motivating when you look at weight like this. Sometimes we can be all about numbers. Great spin on it! -

Hello everybody! I hope everyone had a great holiday. I had a good Christmas and good times with the family. I ate well but we had the wii so I worked a good portion. I know why dancers and Michael Jackson stay so thin I have been reflecting on the New Year. I see my new surgeon on January 3. I am sure port revision surgery is coming down the pipe, but I will see--not to stressed about it. I am glad so my fills will not be painful. I also approach my one year bandiversary on January 14, 2010. Okay I know you all are going to beat me up--go ahead because I probably need it. I am pleased with my weight loss, but cannot help but be bummed that my goal of losing 100lbs by my anniversary post-surgery probably will not be achieved. The 100lbs I have lost includes pre-op weight loss. This week I am actually doing my pre-op diet just to re-discipline myself and really focus. I am hungry and have a headache--withdrawals. Mom is doing somewhat better, so I do not have to go as much, but I still we be glad when she is more self-sufficient. Any Happy New Year to all. -
Your emotions are okay. You will run through so many--doubt, shame, depression as you "break up" with food. I felt ashamed until I thought of obesity as a disease. If were terminally ill or really sick and they tell me they had a procedure, test or tool that could help save my life, I would not hesitate to do it. Well, I realized that getting this band was a tool to save my life and have nothing to feel bad about trying preserve my health. Also, food was an addiction and I thought you do not look at an alcoholic and say--just stop? If it was that easy, AA would not even exist. Reading this site will help you work through the emotion swings because so many went through the same thing, I felt so much better. You are doing the right thing and we are not lazy or taking the easy way out--everyone will tell you there is not ONE thing easy about what we do to work our band. I am so proud to be a bandster now because we are some of the most courageous people I know.

Absolutely! The gym I use has a login system that tracks all your activity and how many calories based on your weight, etc (you do a full physical when you join that is entered in the computer--you are given a personal ID number to login when you go). For the hour long Zumba class, I burn a 1000 calories! You absolutely will not be the only fat lady there. In fact, in my class, you see more, fat than thin because the key to being consistent in exercise (at least for me) is finding something you enjoy. Most of us are having such a good time, the hour passes by and trust we are sweating--I sweat harder in Zumba than I did the step aerobics class for some reason. I use to Taebo too!

I was banded on____since then I have lost____!
shadst8 replied to extraonme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on January 14, 2010. On my supervised six month diet, I lost 29lbs, 20lbs on the pre-op, and 64lbs since the surgery. In total about 113. I have not weighed in a minute and do not plan on doing so until my bandiversary coming up in 19 days--with the holidays that might be a good thing. Although I am a little behind where I planned to be, I am estactic about my progress especially since I have not reached my "sweet spot." To those just starting, celebrate every pound and do not compare yourself with anyone, and stick with it. -
I love Zumba. I ordered the tapes too just so I can mainly get the toning with the sticks that the class does not do. I am getting a wii, so may the wii one as well and give my DVD's as a gift except the toning. I find most DVD's you have to work up to them. Hang in there and do the rate you can do until you can pick it up.

I have the lap band as well. For me it was just positioned awkwardly because of my body shape so it just made it easier go turn.

I went on a cruise in October and had just got a fill. I had a ball and with the weight loss, I was so much more active. I also hit the gym while I cruised and took the steps a lot. I always ate my protein first then my veggies and maybe fruit. I rarely ate dessert, and the night I wanted my favorite dessert, I planned accordingly for those extra calories. You will be fine if you do not make your cruise about food (shopping tends to be my focus )

Hey everyone. I am just checking in. Finally mom has gotten to the place Monday she can be left alone. I am so glad so I can get back to focusing on me. Hope everyone is doing well. I am with you Leigha. The new forum is hard to get used to, but I know have to just adjust to the change. -

Welcome Jackie!!!! 40lbs is alot and does make a huge difference so kudos to you!!!!! Anyway, I am doing good but been in pain all weekend--severe constipation ( I know TMI but there is really no TMI on LBT is there?) The pain is better, but I am still so uncomfortable that I do not feel like even eating. I have a prescription for Miralax that I took--I am going to take a little extra--I need the flood gates to open. Anyway, DH and I were are all squared away. Really it is the stress of taking care of my mom--he is a good man as he babysit's his MIL all day long until one of us comes so he can go to work and/or be relieved--he has seen her butt more than mine he jokes--ugh! Stacie--hope all goes well!!! Melody--glad the scale is being a gentleman or a lady!!!! Bob--um, please warn us if you do the g-string thing! -

Denise--sorry to here about your MIL. Going through the same with mom--my sisters and I are still rotating, and it is so tiring--I cannot continue to do it. Sometimes, as I am learning, we have to make tough decisions for our elderly parents--ones that may get you out of their will:unsure: Thanks on the hair cut compliments--short hair really does look better on me, imho. Leigha--my face is thin--it looks great--I just wish my saggy booty and hips would follow suit as a fast. Lose weight in the oddest places like face and wrist! -
Scale Dilemma! What would you do?
shadst8 replied to RandomRan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not put weight on my ticker for that reason--when the scales are playing tricks, I just change beginning weight by adding the additional pounds so that it is still the same loss. -
Okay as if many of us are already dealing with self-esteem and body issues, you have to through the stress of my reputation in there?

Welcome Laura! Don't worry, your port will not be as intrusive later on, although I am with Stacie--I would have to have six figure-worth plastic surgery to wear a bikini:( Thanks Melody--I have had my hair short and down my back--I think I definitely just look better short--more manageable too. Crystl--thanks--My face does look a little skeletal. Makes me mad--can my hips look thin? Why does face fat go first? -

TOM cause tighter band???
shadst8 replied to PrincipalsOffice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely not in your head--my first stuck experience was also during TOM. Because of the water gain/shifting, I suppose, you can get tighter.
