2011 - banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
shadst8 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No Elfie not busy, just nothing new in my world. Went back to work today--not having a good morning. Get a little queasy sometimes when standing. Still no appetite, so that is good I guess, but I am going to go put something on my stomach. Also I guess I when I move, which I am doing slowly, I get this pulling pain--think I am just hitting scar tissue, but still wondering if I should call the doctor? I only feeling it every now and then. -
Spring Break Challenge
shadst8 replied to AmandaGW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had port revision last Wednesday so the liquids for a few days really help me do so much better than expected--down 11lbs in 5 days! With that I moved my goal to 20lbs to challenge myself the next few weeks knowing my success of dropping that much in week will be short-lived!! -
Sliders do vary. Slider foods are anything that I do not have to chew to get down. Mash potatoes slide, but a French fry chewed to mush does not slide even though it is almost the same consistency.

That is over a pound a week--nothing to laugh at. Celebrate it Just has my one year anniversary--down 75lbs. Didn't make the 100lbs I wanted to, but no way will I negate this success.

Love the avatar. Your making my incisions move from laughter. It is the weirdest battle not to have an appetite, but your mind being ticked off and feeling like you should be eating. The body is trying to curse the mind out and telling it you be grateful it doesn't want to eat. Well my mind is like, you will not make it on the calories and your stuck in the house, and missing out on some good food. I said I am just going to relax and take easy and stay out of it! -

Hang in their Bobbi. It will start coming off again. Leigha--I think you are just living a normal a life, not a lazy one. I think it is good to get to the point where your life is not consumed with calories, portions, burning calories, etc. everyday. 2be: great job on the 12. My goal is way higher than it should be for my height, but I already know now that below a 12, I will not Plook good. Everybody now don't even realize that I am still obese. They think I much smaller than I really am. They can't believe I still have 80lbs to go to reach my goal Denise: I cannot ever seem to get warm since surgery. My office is drafty which makes it worst. Maybe the doctor will be more understanding. Just turned cold again here and predicting snow for the neighboring counties. HB: wish I could do quilting. I am getting a little bored Well anyway, it turns out maybe my husband was right--I will never let him know this. Maybe I did not get an unfill. I half of the strawberry cheesecake shake I made, some potato soup pureed and I realized I was not really hungry for any of it, but ate just to get calories in. I think this morning was head hunger because I have not quite hit 600 calories yet and still not hungry. I guess sleepy dwarf should woke her behind up and gotten some info on her own status after surgery. Lol. I guess I need to ask my new surgeon a bunch of questions. -

Doing good. Hungry! Since I was drugged, my husband and are debating with one another! I know the doctor said something before surgery about drawing my fluids out to see how much I have and putting that much back at my follow-up. I was on the happy medicine but i clearly heard that because he was responding to my question would he fill me during surgery and he said no. My husband said when he came out to talk to him after surgery, he said their is still some fluid in there. I decided I am right because I always am . I know that I am right because these liquids are not doing the trick--I am hungry early in the morning. I have not been hungry in the morning since I got the band! Four more days of liquids, and I can slowly introduce food back! I started pureeing fruit into my shakes--that has helped. Tried yogurt last night--it was like cake! So good, but still sticking mostly to shakes until Tuesday. -
Still little sore after port revision, but feeling good. Doing liquids for 4 more days...hungry

I was at 75lbs for my bandiversary on the 14th. I had lost 30 before my pre-op putting me over 100lbs. I wanted to lose 100lbs by the 14th of Jan 2011, post op. Looking at the average, that is 1.4 lbs a week, so i should fill pretty good, even if I did not make my goal. Had port revision surgery Wednesday. My port flipped back in October and was turned awkwardly before that making fills painful, so my weight loss slowed. I am trying to get really focussed this year because I still have close to 90lbs to reach my goal!

Do you think people with more weight to lose reach resatriction sooner!
shadst8 replied to size10again's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have to agree. It usually is the opposite. Larger people like myself typically get large bands that often take several fills to reach restriction. I have had four fills and still have not reached good restriction. -

LOL. Tele tubby is funny. Let me clarify--still a little drugged. He had mentioned before the surgery that if my current port was looking worn he would go ahead and replace it. It was fine, so he just repositioned my old one. Port revision surgery is misleading. All he was doing was taking the flipped port and moving it to a more accessible spot. It was on my left side, flipped, and right in my belly fat that was hard to get to without very painful fills. Now my fills should go well. -

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking on me. I am doing great! I had to check-in at 8:00am yesterday but didn't go to prep until about 10:00. The surgery was only about 30 minutes if that long according to my husband. I was in recovery longer than that--for 2 hours! The recovery nurse said I was sensitive to pain medicines because I just kept falling back to sleep instead of deep breathing. Every time she would tell me to wake up, as soon as she turned her head, I was out. This cause my stats to drop, so I had to stay back there to the sleepy dwarf inside me got it together. When the sent me back to the room, I still slept. . They gave me a optisource protein shake and some apple juice, I am not sure what caused it, but I became nauseated, so much so i could not get up to urinate so I could fly the coop! They gave me nausea meds before and after surgery, but i guess they did not work. Finally they gave me phenergran, (sp?), tried and true. They knocked me out for about an hour (hey don't judge my dwarf lol) and after that no nausea and went straight to the bathroom. By then it was 8pm! I was home by 3:00pm with the regular surgery! Lol. Anyway they took all my fluid out and is going to put that much back in in 2 weeks at follow up. I guess I am swollen because I am not hungry He said my port was fine, so they just moved the old one right over my belly. Sore, but in no pain. Went back through the original port incision (it's the most sore because he also cleaned out any scar tissue and put a new incision at the new port sight--doesn't hurt at all:) Denise: congrats on the new size, HB: poot on that jerk. I work with small children who say I am old everyday and I just turn 38 next week(woo-hoo right on time--I will be off liquids. I am going to find a soupy dessert or purée the heck out of some cake). Strut your stuff! -
The discourse/converstion on this forum

Second on Miss diva. You are fab. Back to the OP. I agree witth you. Some people do not want the truth. However, we experienced bandsters do need to remember that our emotional relationship with food is the hardest thing that you battle and the emotional walls that you build to cope with being over weight and obese. Typically, when I see posters that get offensive so quickly, they sometimes were not told or researched the emotional side of the band and just how hard this journey is. I admit I do not even post because there is not much you can say that will not make them feel badly. Excuses and being the victim has been some of the crutches for years. I am not saying that the band works for everyone, but unless it is something medical like the body rejecting the band, the person may want consider other factors than blaming the band--but emotionally they cannot face it often. Also I am pretty sure there are thread "flamers" who post just to get people riled up! -

Yes it is what my mom refers to "spending all your life trying to live" syndrome. I just look at like this--at least all the extra energy is giving to me. Also one pound a week is not slow. I think that is a good rate--one that ensures you can maintain. -
I eat it and have had very little problems. Some don't because they consider it drinking which eating, but I find the cereal stays with me long, especially high protein cereal. However, I do not eat it often.

night time munchies....
shadst8 replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also try adjusting my eating schedule so that I eat later, sometimes 8pm. Then I am too full to munch. I get on the computer, play games, do housework. If I have to succomb to a snack, I make myself log it even if I have not logged any other food-- I then say if you are going to eat this, you are going to have to work them off! That works because some of the junk is not worth it. -
Did you do liquids after the surgery?
-
I assume you do a liquid diet? If so 2 days like after a fill or longer?
