    Pre-op visit 12-28-09

I was anxious and excited today. I think the reality was hitting that I am really going to do this. Now for some crazy reason, I made my OB/GYN annual check up for this day. By the end of the day, I had taking my clothes on and off so much, I felt like maybe I should be getting paid!:tt2: My pre-op lasted about and 1hr and 45minutes. I spoke with the surgeon who reviewed all my records, talked a little about the surgery, then he turned me over to the nurse who went of some reminders and had me to sign some papers. My doctor also had lap-band surgery, so he's really patient with you for the most part. I then went for some labs--chest X-ray, EKG, gave some blood, urine sample, and swabbed my nose for some test--not sure, hope he didn't find any boogers lol. I go back 12-30-09 to meet with the dietician--I start my pre-op on New Year's Eve (somewhat appropriate, new year, new life My husband is supportive but still nervous. Feels like I may leave him (he is obese as well). At this point, I have reassured him that I not going to turn into this evil skinny woman, but as I told him I am focussing on me and that there's nothing I can do about his insecurities--he would have to work them out. Selfish of me? I don't think so. He understands. His insurance is terrible and does not cover as surgery. We are probably going to add him to mind so that he can do the surgery himself, but right now, I have to do this for me first.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Same date here--very anxious too:biggrin: I had my pre-op yesterday and meet just with dietician on tomorrow to go over pre-op diet (starts Thursday) and post-op. Let's stay in touch.
  3. I was on the blackberry secretly:biggrin: Pre-op went well--all kinds of test and reminders. I have to go pre-register at the hospital on the 11th and report at 6:00am on the 14th for surgery!! I have to go back for special session with dietician to go over pre and post op diet. Hard to believe only 17 days:w00t:
  4. Checking in! My pre-op visit going on right now!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hopefully with the little small meal that I get, that it will not be so bad for the next 14 days or so--good thing I start a few days before I go back to work, but yeah feeling "yucky" and ill and trying to work has me somewhat nervous--I am an assistant principal--being ill and weak will not be helpful lol:wink2:

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Welcome--we have the same surgery date and the same nervousness. Reading this site has helped me not be so nervous. My pre-op appointment is tomorrow where I get my pre-op diet instructions--they already told me it is a liquid diet with one low fat/high protein/low carb meal. Be Blessed--and we can do it!
  7. My husband has been feeling the same way and saying similar things (also obese)--I have tried to be encouraging, but I can tell it bothers him--although he is very supportive. I have to remember that many people find security in my plus-size body. As I told him, I am doing this to save my life--for once I am putting myself first as I cannot continue to try and take care of everything and everyone and abuse my own temple. As Susan Taylor says, "Everyone is not healthy enough to have a front row seat in your life." So, when I get that thinner body and they cannot deal, I will send them to the back until they are ready to be VIP again!
  8. I, too, will be starting surgery over 300 more than likely unless during my pre-op I drop 60 pounds--not. My doctor is requiring 2 liquid meals and 1 small low fat, high protein, low carb meal. I have decided to do very low carbs the week prior to my pre-op to so that I can just get ready as I try to cut them down now anyway and aid in my shrinkage. I have to agree that 300 calories per day is highly unusual? I am proud for you for sticking to it--it has to be almost torture. An opinion from another surgeon surely could not hurt? I do not feel like you have to blindly follow a surgeon because they are the expert. I feel it is every patient's right to ask questions and give input about your body. They are experts in their field, you are the true expert on your body--you live with it everyday and if it is telling you that is starving by passing out--someone should listen!
  9. My friend was 391 after her pre-op diet. After two years, she has lost 168 pounds and counting. She lost the first 130 the first year!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Lol--mine is dual--we take a family cruise every October, so I am planning it and window shopping!
  11. Same here. I just seemed to have skipped passed the single digit sizes:tongue2: I, too, get nervous at times (and my husband really nervous as he is plus sized) wondering how a smaller me is going to change things. As with any change, their is a grief period--your mourn what you are losing. You will get pass this feeling as you begin to Celebrate more of what your gaining by losing. This website is great--it helps everyone to hang in there. You are doing the right thing. (I just pep-talked myself lol)

    liquid diet

Yes! Although I can't do too much celebrating:sad: It is fully expected when I go for the pre-op visit, that I would have lost weight on December 28th!

    liquid diet

I had the choice of doing the surgery December 3, 10, or 17. That would put me doing my pre-op diet during Thanksgiving or if the 17th recovering and on liquids still on Christmas or pre-op dieting. I worried about cheating, but moreso, I knew I would be out-of-town Thanksgiving and felt that trying to complete a diet away from home might be difficult. As bad as I wanted to have the surgery in December (really bad), I had to do what would ensure success. In this manner, I start my pre-op right after Christmas when I am already off work.

    Advice with giving up soda?

I was a Mountain Dew addict (that stuff is liquid crack/cocaine )--so I had to find something equally good-tasting. For me it was sugar-free Kool-aid. I also will drink iced tea with sweetner to give me a caffeine boost. When I just had those bad withdrawals, I would buy one of those 5hr energy drinks and take some aspirin. It does get better!
  16. I totally agree. Just think of these three months as enough time to gain the additional tools to be successful! Awesome Juli!!

What about sugar-free syrups? Alot of these recipes only use whey Protein mix, water and sugar-free syrups. http://www.lap-band-surgery-site.com/protein-shake-recipes.html

    I choose to live.

Good for you for taking the steps for you!!!!My husband had to come around too--the only difference is he is obese is well, but because he is 6'5" his weight is not as taxing on the body, in fact, he looks smaller than me. He is even going to try the pre-op diet now. I found with him, it was his own personal insercurity--thinking I will leave him for some skinny dude! lol Thank you to this site because I has given me the confidence about what I am doing. What I share now with non-obese nay-sayers who say just loose the weight is obesity is a medical condition that leads to death--how many severely or terminally ill patients do you say just treat yourself and do not seek medical treatment for your condition? None, in fact, you try to get the best medical care possible. The LapBand is treatment for a disease that can help you, other bandsters, and myself finally win the war!

    Another xcited & scared newbie

I know what you are feeling. My surgery is January 14, 2010 and one day I am confident and excited--then I almost ready to change my mind the next. I remember that I am doing this surgery for me--I have abused my body long enough. You will be fine--there is a lot of support here!

    Confussed about process

I was referred by regular doctor to the surgeon's seminar--at the end of the seminar, you filled out a form to have them contact insurance to see if they covered the surgery--I then filled out a weight history to see if I was a candidate--then I was accepted as a lap-band patient. After my first appointment I was assigned a patient rep who basically contacts your insurance to make sure everything gets approved and paid for--I met with her on the first visit. My surgeon set up my other appointments (sleep apnea, psych eval). After my last appointment, I was approved a week later!
