To tell or not to tell, that is the question...
shadst8 replied to LeighaMason's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My boss told everyone at work, so though I planned to tell them over time, now it is too late. I do wish some of them did not know, because I have some who try to give advice or say what they do--I do not need their help, and it's about me, so I do not care what you do. Some are naturally curious, and I respect that, and have genuine questions. I am just upfront and tell them how I feel. I said all of that to say, whomever you tell, be prepared for how you will deal with their response -
Gaining Weight on Pureed Food!
shadst8 replied to MarilynJ6354's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing happened to me--it came back off! I retain water because of all those creamy soups that had high sodium contents! -
The myth of exercise and weight loss
shadst8 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Because I suffer from Vitamin D defiency way before surgery, it is crucial that I exercise to strengthen my muscles. I can't weight to get back to my aerobics and strength training because it helped me so much. I think exercise and activity are confused. Like another poster said, unless you sit or lie still 24hrs, you are doing some physical activity just in your normal every day activities. I don't think the OP was trying to convince people not to exercise, but to encourage those who cannot do aerobics or run to know it is possible to drop weight. I cannot without doing some exercise routine, but every person is different. -
18 days post op... plateau already!!!
shadst8 replied to Acerbia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People should not confuse impatience and apprehension and some fear. We all did this journey because of constant failures. When the weight slows and stalls, that fear that maybe you are going to fail again and the pressure to succeed plays a huge part. Yes you know you cannot drop it as fast as you gain and that your body changes and adjusts, but still it takes some psychological adjustments with your body adjustments. I know that is what I am dealing with, so the OP, hang in there:thumbup: -
18 days post op... plateau already!!!
shadst8 replied to Acerbia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just told my told story. I am 28 days post-op and I stalled around the same time and have been the same weight ever since. I lost a pound finally when I weighed earlier this week, to only get back on the scale yesterday to see I am back at the same weight although I was really puffy and swollen yesterday around the ankles--water retention. I too, walk, count calories, eat only when I am hungry, I am not weak either, yet I remain the same size. Just through me searching, I have found this is normal. Like you, I still just feel baffled that I have not continued to lose. Some say that you could be loosing inches--unfortunately I jotted my pre-op measurements down, and now cannot find it, so I have no way to verify. Is this Bandster hell? I have decide to not to worry about it and just look forward to a fill and when I can do real excercise again. I figured the 60lbs, 30lbs alone in January was not too bad and to wait--the pounds will start coming again -
Pureed Soft foods - so full so fast
shadst8 replied to Chele6378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was the same way--I thought I no way will I be full off of 4oz of pureed soup, but sometimes I do not even eat all of that -
I have to agree--I do not count my weight but sometimes the scale lets me know. I notice my ankles was swollen--retaining water--sure enough five pounds gained. That let me know to watch my sodium intake.!!

250 pounds down in my sixth year and finally coasting
shadst8 replied to sandi2004's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You are so inspiring. Since I had such a high BMI, I know I have a great deal more weight to lose than some, but you have really encourage me. I know my goal is very achievable. Congratulations on the tremendous success:thumbup: -
This is a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
shadst8 replied to skinnygirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations. Hearing results like that inspire me. I am three weeks post-op and have lost no weight since the first week. I know this is normal and this time is about healing, but I cannot help but feel a bit discouraged. I upped my calories, started walking, increasing protein, but still the same. Thank you--I know I just have to wait it out and be thankful for the 13lbs the first week and 21 pre-op!! Plateaus are just that--eventually you cannot stay flat, at some point you will reach the end of the plateau and fall!! Congrats again:thumbup: -
Someone brought be food...
shadst8 replied to Chele6378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say I really appreciate this--do you mind if I share these treats? Then pass them out until they are gone or say I am watching what I eat or you don't want to spoil your appetite... Hey and if you do not feel like lying--do what I do take one and as soon as I can, throw it away!! -
I posted how my principal announced it at a faculty meeting!!

Love it--I use that one a lot! My mom, who is heavy mind you, everytime I was around all her conversation was about my weight. My sister finally said, you know people deal with their faults everyday--the last thing they need is to be reminded of them! Though my mother was doing that because she does not want me to end up like her with all those health problems, when she heard that, she found better ways to express her concern!

I would get one, I had become a little obsessed weighing two or three times a day--my second week post-op I had stalled. I tried to get my hubby to hide it and he just smiled and said, "In one month alone, you have lost thirty pounds--stay off the scale and feel good about that." I said he is right, so I have not weighed in days. Once a week will be good enough!

Mine growls quite bit--I know I am hungry when it is longer and more intense. I have stopped being embarassed about it--I figure I could be passing gas--I rather growl:biggrin:

Dumping after eating
shadst8 replied to LynnFromCT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have this experience after my gall bladder surgery and it would occur usually if I skipped out on breakfast or if the first thing I would eat was too greasy, salty etc. With the surgery, I suffer constipation some but no diarrhea -
I'm so hungry...help???
shadst8 replied to lamar44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on pureed--no chunks or chewing yet, so whatever I puree, has to consistency of mashed potatoes, apple sauce or sugar-free pudding. I now add some frozen bananas and strawberries to shakesand blend well. Those sugar-free syrups also help given them different flavors. I also did the creamy chicken soup--also pureed Hormel turkey chilli until it was mush. That and mashed potatoes (had to thin those out as I had trouble getting them down) have been the most satisfying. Also got a recipe for a sweet potato custard. I avoid soups with pasta and rice. I have not eaten cream of wheat or oatmeal, either. Sunday I transition to soft/mushie--I cannot wait to chew. -
I had to make it a regiment and it has gotten easier as other posters said as the days since the surgery has progressed--I have to be at work at 7am and have a 30 min commute. As as I wake up, I begin sipping so by 7:00 I am finish a 20oz bottle--I then eat my breakfast at work around 8:00am--about 30-45 min I begin sipping on another bottle to be finished by that by 10:00 in case I want to eat a snack. I then sip some more until 45 min to my lunch--I then sip so more. Now because I work as an assistant principal, my day does not always flow like that:biggrin:--so I grab that bottle wherever I go. If that happens I drink alot more after-school and on the way home and later that evening especially if "head hunger" happens.

Any GOOD fish recipes?
shadst8 replied to Tish5632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am exactly the same way--not a huge fish eater, and do not like the "fishy taste" if I do eat fish. Here is a link to a couple of recipes that I liked: http://www.lap-band-surgery-site.com/weight-loss-surgery-recipes.html Also in the store--I picked up a grill marinade where you just add oil and marinate the fish--So good! -
Greek Yogurt - Pricey and is it worth it?
shadst8 replied to Melinco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I paid almost $5 for a small tub, but it was organic! Expensive, but I invested in it because 1 cup of it was 23 grams of protein! -
If your stalled, this worked for me...
shadst8 replied to stephaniel71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks I am not a breakfast eater and the only egg I can tolerate is an omelette with a bunch of stuff in it or deviled eggs. My nutritionist was saying the same thing that when I move to solids that is just what I need to eat. I am not morning person, so whipping a shake up is easier than cooking an omelette everyday! -
Okay, I am a scale whore--I am determined not to weigh myself anymore for the remainder of the week.
-
I am glad you posted this thread. My family and I cruise every year--going in October. I was wondering how cruising would be. On last year's cruise, I managed not to gain like usual, so maybe with the band, I can loose some pounds.

We are both exactly a week post-op today--my shoulder pain pretty much stopped two days ago. I took the Gas X, but walking, as everyone else has stated, helped the most.
-
Good for you--one week post op today--another week of liquids. I can do this, right:thumbup:

I had surgery yesterday. I have been in very little pain, except for gas, and I have been walking and taking gas X. Port is area is sore, but certainly not painful. I am so glad I went through with the surgery (just burped, excused me, but burping aloud excites me:biggrin:) and made it through pre-op. I am a bandster and loving it. Thank you to everyone on this site. I was not even really nervous because of all the information that was shared. To those who have not had the surgery, it really is smooth as it sounds.
