My story begins on January 26, 1973--my birthday. I was whopping ten pound baby. I was the fat kid already in the nursery--lol. However between the ages of two to four, I actually was normal weight. By the time I started kindergarten, I was chubby but not very fat. By third grade, I was definitely overweight--heck I started wearing a bra! Basically not to go through my entire childhood (who has the time?), I am saying I have struggled with my weight for a long, long time. I am so very tired of the battle. When I visited my doctor and talked about how I was the largest I had ever been and that I was killing myself, she suggested weightloss surgery and referred me to my current surgeon who she said is one of the best. I knew many people who had the gastric bypass, and as much as I wanted to lose weight, I knew it was not for me, so I was thrilled to hear about the lap-band surgery. I went to the seminar and was glad I did. Now I am ready to make pernament changes in my life for me. I want to live, have children, and quit the abuse of my body. I look at my mom who is 74 years old and obese--she has lost a great deal of weight, but still at her size she struggles so much with co-morbidities high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, sleep apnea coupled with arthritis and osteoporosis. I must live to live!
