Anybody have to wear compression stockings?
jalivia2 replied to amey_idaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hmmm...I was told that I will only have to wear them during sugery and until discharge. -
I take Centrum chewables and they are awful. I may have to try what you are taking. Where did you find them?

I have BCBS of TX PPO and it took 2 business days for approval. 3 business days from the time that my paperwork was submitted to the time that my drs office called me to let me know that I had been approved. I keep hearing that BCBS one of the easiest ins companies as far as approvals go.

Hi there. I'm 29 with no kids. I live in Houston, TX and will be banded on 4/19. I look forward to receiving private messages from you! LOL! <---sorry that just sounds hilarious to me for some reason! -
Short Term Disability
jalivia2 replied to Stacey627's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Stacey - My doctor said that I could go back to work when I felt up to it as well. However, I want time to adjust to the band, and could really use a break so I requested 2 weeks off. I am using 7 sick days and 3 vacation days. At my company, STD is not an option until you have missed 11 work days. -
Thanks Drasan! I will be banded on Monday and think that questioning yourself about Water is excellent. I will definitely use that!
-
Hi Monique! I'm in Houston and will be banded on Monday 4/19. My surgeon only required a 5 day liquid diet for me, and this is day one. I know everyone is different, but so far I have not had any problems...just make sure that you have distractions. When you start to get hungry, have some Water and a quick chat with a co-worker, or take the dogs out...etc. It passes!

Congrats and best wishes for success!

Good Luck Devontie. Please keep us updated! -
I just called my insurance company to check on the status of my approval/denial. The told me that a letter was mailed to my dr on 3/25 stating that I met the requirements for the surgery!!! I'm SO happy and SO nervous!!

Thanks everyone for your kind words! I have a minor roadblock in my way right now, but I'm faithful that it will be fixed as well. When the drs office called to re-verify my benefits, they found out that for some reason my benefits were cancelled from October 2009-December 2009 (or something like that) even though I used them during that time and been covered by this policy since July 2008. It was an error on the part of my employer that they are having to work out between themselves and BCBS...otherwise, my pre-existing condition (morbid obesity) will not be covered until December 20, 2010. I look forward to posting a positive update to this tomorrow!

My nutritionist told me to start experimenting with them now so that I would know what I like. I ordered the sampler pack from bariatriceating.com and love them! The chocolate peanut butter fudge tastes just like a reeses peanut butter cup. The only problem is they aren't nearly as filling as the whey protein powder that I can get at walmart.

I have BCBS of TX and am currently waiting for an approval...this wait is the hardest part!

1st post op appt!
jalivia2 replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing great! -
I hope to be banded in April, but I may end up being banded in May. It all depends on when I receive insurance approval and when my boss returns to work from short term disability. The one thing I can say is the wait between nut visits, etc is nothing...the wait between the final visit and insurance approval is brutal!!

My surgeon found mine while doing my EGD and plans to fix it when he puts in the band. He told me that many obese people have them, so I don't think that it will be a showstopper for you.

Congratulations!!

hmmm...I didn't think to ask my doctor about that either. I know that they are $200 without insurance, but I never thought to ask him how much I would actually have to pay out of pocket!!
