I am not feeling great today either. I could feel it coming on the past 2 days but it hit full force last night just in time for bed. My nose is running and I am sneezing alot. I have nose spray that really helps with it but I still feel the pressure. Got on the scale this morning thinking yesterdays 3 pound loss was a mistake. I knew when I got on that scale this morning it was gonna be back up. How's that for being positive. Thankfully it really is gone. Have I mentioned yet that my brother is going to be a dad soon. His baby is due any day now. I am planning on going to visit his new little family the first of April. I haven't seen him since Oct. He lives near boston. I am going to be flying there. My goal is to lose atleast 15 more pounds by then. He has no idea I am dropping all this weight. I hope he will be so surprised. I also am hoping I won't need a seatbelt extender when I fly and that I won't invade someone elses personal space. I would just love to have all new clothes too. I have never been that far north before. I hardly ever cross into yankee territory, lol. We are also planning to take my son to Disney sometime this spring. We have been promising him for awhile and keep postponing it. I am thinking maybe it could be a celebration for me hitting onederland. That way I won't be at all nervous about how I fit on the rides. I should be close to it in april or may. June 1st is our goal for moving out. Jake and I will both be out of school by then. I can't wait to have my own place again. Buying what groceries I want and cooking what I want/need. Doing what I want when I want without having to explain to someone where I am going and why. I am ready to be independant again. Jacob is starting Teeball tonite. My first team was called the Lady Gators and his is the Gators. I thought that was kinda cool. I played ball for 12 years until I graduated highschool. It was a great experience for me and his first day of teeball feels like a big milestone for me. I am hoping that I can help the coach or something, be involved. I feel like sometimes people pass me over for stuff like that because I am fat. When I coached cheerleading people would always be surprised to find that out. They would get this crazy look and say Really? I know I don't look or sound like one but I love working with the preteen girls. Helping them through their little and big issues. It is rewarding. I hope yall are having a good day. I am suppose to be studying but I can't stick with it. So I am just taking a break.

Due for 1st fill - what does it feel like?
JeweI replied to BelindaLu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc didn't use any numbing agent. It stung a bit but not so much I can't do it again. He did have me sit up though and drink water while he adjusted it. Good luck. -
I had my surgery pretty quick too. They would have scheduled it earlier but I wanted to wait till the semester was over. Congrats on begining your new life.

In case you missed it. Jbflorida is the comedian of the lapsisters. She had us laughing so hard. Lady, that is so sweet of your hubby. I have missed yall on here the past few days it has been a little slow but hopefully things will get hopping again. I woke up this morning to a 3 pound loss. I was a bit surprised but enjoying it.

When I first started back on solids I did throw up many times. It took me a few days to learn the new full feeling, to eat small bites, chew well and eat slow. The band is wide open post op but the swelling of the stomach in the area makes it feel tight. Once the swelling goes down you are hungry again and praying your first fill will come sooner. I just had my first fill tuesday. I can see a difference in how much I am eatting but the full feeling isn't lasting long. I know I will need another one. Good luck on your surgery.

Finally went to the ER!!!!
JeweI replied to Bell1138's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my goodness. Good call on your part to get to the doc. Glad it was something they could fix. -
Good luck. It is scary. I remember telling myself surgery is a huge risk to get my health back. Now I know it was worth the risk. My body is already reacting to the new life.

2 Months Post Op & Struggling
JeweI replied to tiane2317's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have weeks where I lose tons and then weeks I don't lose at all. It all averages out so just keep working it and the scale will catch up. Journaling is great it really helped me the first few months preop. If you do find your eatting alot don't hesitate to call and schedule a fill. My doc sees me every 4 weeks the first year. To feel full longer you have to be sure not to drink with your meal or immediatly after. My doc says to wait 30 min after I eat before I resume drinking. Also eat Proteins. If your already doing this then It couldn't hurt to call the doc. -
I went through a spell where I thought I was crazy too. You are so right though I want an extraordinary life. I got so tired of hiding from the world. I have decided it is time for me to change so I can live a full life. My husband was actually a little jealous that the ladies here inspired me to make travel plans, plans to visit the country. Shoot maybe even do a trip outside the country. Hubby and I always talk about it but we never follow through. I am making major changes in my life right now and the lapband is part of that. It feels like I hit my midlife crisis early. Hopefully he will love the new me even more and he will see that it's not just me that's gonna get out but him too. My whole family is gonna beenifit from the changes I am making.

tuesday 16th february is my day ..i need support
JeweI replied to jasmine mino's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 1/4/10 also. I am so thankful I went through with my surgery. Leading up to it though I thought all kinds of things. Alot of what if's... i didn't consider what if this goes great and I lose the weight and I am not tired and I can be active again. So many people are living that what if right now and now I am one of them. The crossover from preop to postop is not easy and is scary but it is worth the trouble. You are worth the trouble. -
I took me awhile to get the hang of eatting postop. I was eatting too much and too fast. I would have to go lay down for an hour or so till the pain passed. Just slow down and wait for that full feeling in between each bite. You will learn what it feels like right before it is too much. My doc told me not to drink the whole can of the protein shake so don't feel like you have to finish it. I really struggled with this because in my mind I was hungry after being on liquids. I wanted the taste and was not satisfied with just a couple bites. I thought I couldn't possibly be full already so I would take another one. After a few days I realized full feels different now and never take that one last bite. Good luck and keep trying.

You look fantastic. It doesn't even look like the same person. Your doing a great job.

I had this. When my endo first suggested the band I was angry. My horomones were all screwed up and I need my endo to fix it not some WLS surgeon. Then I felt bad. I also thought I was a loser, waste of space. A huge failure. The people on this site have really been such a great support for me. I had just gotten stuck in this trap that I deserved to be punished and deserved to be fat. I didn't deserve the lapband. How are we any different then those around us. We all screw up but that doesn't mean we deserve to live a miserable life. Maybe I was just making excuses so I didn't have to participate in life. I didn't have to risk anything. I was holding myself back from life and using the excuse that I was too fat and had a bad childhood. Having the surgery was a huge risk because if I lost the weight I would lose my excuse. I made a conscience decision that I am not going to miss out on life anymore. I started back to college and decided I was gonna do whatever it took to get this weight off. Losing the weight so I could be active with my family and not be so tired. So I would gain confidence in making friends. So I wouldn't be afraid to leave the house. So my first interview for a nursing position I couldn't cop out because I was too fat. One thing people don't realize is how much being fat gets into your head. I call it my fat brain. Everything we do is altered by having these fat thoughts. That will take longer to fix than just our weight. But it is worth fixing.

I don't feel the band inside me. If I try I can feel my port but with regular movements and stuff I would never know it's there. I believe this is a lifelong deal. I plan to keep mine as long as they will let me.lol. It not only helps get the weight off but helps keep it off too. It is just a tool though. I am learning how to use it properly and so far it is working. It took me awhile on solids to learn how much to chew, what my bite size should be, and what my portions are gonna be. It is possible to defeat the band. Eatting slider foods and drinking with your meal, snacking. You still have to watch things but the band has increase the rate at which I am losing. On the preop diet I lost less than 2 pounds a week. Now I average 3 pounds a week. Just because I feel full after eatting a little. I still get hungry though after about 2 hours. I will keep getting fills til I reach that sweet spot of feeling full for 3-4 hours. I have met ladies that have reached goal but are still using the band for maintenace and thats what I intend to do. The band is kinda a new thing so there really isn't anyone out there who has had it for 30-40 years. I am so grateful I have mine. Losing this weight has been worth all that it took to get the band. I am so excited about what my future holds.

Terrible pain with a lot of gas (sorry)
JeweI replied to mgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have had it. Maybe not as bad as you but I have gone to lay down after overeating when I first started solids. I couldn't move hardly but I have learned my lesson. Glad you got checked out by a doc to be sure. -
Banded 2/11/10...temperture??
JeweI replied to oceansunset24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really it sounds like you have just gotten sick and it couldn't be at a better time huh? Hopefully you have already taken time off work to recover. I don't believe that the dripping is gonna make anything slip. You may feel better if you tried some liquid tylenol for the fever. I didn't drink alot of protein drinks. I did mostly chicken broth. You may want to try that heated up. Good if your sick and could help relax the band. I didn't have a BM til I got back on solids so your not alone there. Are you allowed sugar free cocoa, apple cider or warm tea? All of these might feel good in your tummy and around the band. Just trying to think of anything that might help. Hope you feel better soon. -
Easter Challenge Anyone?
JeweI replied to mrsgriffin2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now that my valentines challenge is over I am ready to set an easter goal. I think 20 is a good goal for me. That would put me at 212. I have been averaging 3 pounds a week. I have 2 fills between now and then so maybe I could actually be in onederland by then who knows. Good luck to you all. -
You guys look so great. Thanks for posting the pictures. what wonderful memories.

I didn't have any nausea. Just gas pain. I was back in school within 7 days and was riding a motorcycle day 9. I felt like it was alot of pain but now that I look back it was just a few days. I stopped taking pain meds day 5. It did take longer for me to sleep on my left side. Once I started on solid food I did start throwing up. I wasn't chewing enough and taking small enough bites. I fiqured it out though and now am 6 weeks post op and can get anything down. The post op recovery is short term compared to the rest of you life. Just take it one day at a time. It may be tough but it's not impossible.
-
Sounds like you are healing quickly. Walking around will help the gas feeling too. Just start out with 5-10 min. You don't have to start at an hour. I had a bit of trouble with gas because they put alot more in me than usual. It's all worth it though. Congrats.
-
I use alleve for my sciatia and ice. My doc actually sent me to physical therapy for it and I only struggle with it now if I have been on the motorcycle for hours. Sorry you gained weight. I know the feeling of working hard to get it off and then poof there it is again. Just don't give up. You are worth fighting the frustrations your feeling. Hold on to that feeling of victory and you will see it again.

Awesome insight. Thanks for sharing.

Port In/Near BellyButton
JeweI replied to philippians413's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My port is in the same place. I hung out in my robe the first few days and it wasn't a bother. When I did get my jeans back on I had lost enough weight that they were pretty big on me. The only trouble I had was about day 9 postop I went on a motorcyle ride. I just had to adjust it a bit to keep it from rubbing. -
I am beginning the journey towards lapband surgery with Dr. Gould in NH
JeweI replied to t1m1a1c's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I love my wii fit and I have alot of walking around my college campus. The wii fit plus has such variety on it. I can do yoga, step aerobics, obstacle courses... When My dad had a pool I would go over there almost everyday and swim. (It's was heated) I miss that. I do like variety in my workout. Yesterday, I walked up and down the road while my son road his bike. I hate to admit it but I like Richard Simmons too. He just wants you to move, get your heart going. There is no fuss over doing it just precisly the way the pretty little models do. He has real women having fun. My doc only requires 15 minutes a day right now. I don't feel so overwhelmed to meet that goal. What really keeps me at it is getting on that scale and seeing I am not 260 anymore. That motivates me. Then all the nonscale victories, buying new clothes, looking at all my old pictures, people not recognizing me. My doc even said he saw a bikini in my future. It seems like everyday I feel some sort of victory from this. Even if it's just at the end of the day knowing I actually made it through the whole day without binging. I have had that optimistic feeling for awhile now. It never gets old. Just the thought that there will come a day when I won't look like a fat chick. I haven't heard of that book. If your reading in that much it must be good. Check out this thread. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f260/im-here-help-64725/ The ladies on that thread have been such and inspiration and soft place to fall. Most of them post everyday and if I have a question or need support I always get a response within the day. We all just had kind of a reunion in florida this weekend. Everyone is traveling from that right now so it is a little slow but by tuesday the thread should be jumping again. I would love for you to come in and get all the support that I have. -
You can go to lapband.com and there are videos there that explain how it works. Yes it does work atleast for me. Everyone is different with the skin thing. Some people have it some don't. I think it depends on age, how long you have been over weight, and how much excess weight you have. Some people may have it just in their arms or just in their tummy or all over. Personally I would rather the skin than all the problems that come with being over weight. The band is just a tool. You can be a success or not. It depends on how much work you put into it. Hopefully if you check out that website you will see the complications and stuff but for the most part if you work it, it works. You still have to govern what and how you eat and excersize. I am doing low carb and do about 15 min of excersize a day (that is all my doc ask right now). Preop I lost less than 2 pounds a week, post op I average 3 pounds a week. I haven't hit my sweet spot yet though. I expect after a few fills to lose more than that a week. I deffinatly recommend the lapband. I hope that my father will get it. I just warn people that it does take effort. It is not the magic bullet. If you live anywhere near NE FL I recommend DR. Cywes. He is worth the drive for me.
