Don't knock it till ya try it but I mix my tuna drained in cottage cheese instead of dry or with mayo. The mayo bothered my stomach. For a real treat pineapple cottage cheese.. I know I know it sounds nasty but it's not.. I have it probebly 2-3 days a week for lunch.

I am only 3 weeks post op but at what point do you stop thinking about ways to cheat the band, realize that last 3 bites is going to make you really uncomfortable and you choose not to take them anyway. Remembering not to drink for 2 hours following meals.. I realize the band is just a tool and it's up to me to work it. Now that the physical appetite is under control how do I get the mental one under control? I am seriously wondering if I need to consider counsling, OA something. I know it's early, heck I havn't even had a fill yet but I'm already starting to think I can't do this..

It will be amonth on the 14th and I am only down 22 pounds.. all of which was preop and maybe 6 post op. I am already discouraged with the lack of wt. loss and find myself already slipping back into old habits. Another week until my 1st fill... am hoping that will be the shot in the arm (or belly) to get it together and work with this band as I should. I hate to think I went thru all this for 20 something pounds..

2 Weeks Post Surgery and ...
KAS1971 replied to hocuspocus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not not doing a whole lot better and told my nutritionist so when I saw her yesterday. She reminded me rome wasn't built in a day and it took you 10+ years to develop such crappy eating habits and you can't expect to be perfect from the second the band goes in. Old habits are hard to break and new ones even harder to get to stick. She also reminded me I have yet to have a fill so whatever decent choices of weight loss I have is due to my "dieting" and not thanks to the band yet. They are more concerned with healing in the 1st 6 weeks until my fill.. working on seperating liquids from meals, less white carbs and heavy sweets etc.. cant expect everything to change at once. -
This sounds weird but I am 3 weeks post op and I almost feel like my stomach is now in my back. I am used to feeling hungry and that real full feeling as a stomach discomfort. Now it is feeling more like a back discomfort. When I take a too big a bit, dont chew enough etc.. I feel it in my back. I mentioned it to the nutritionist today (who has never had a lap band) and she had never heard of such a thing. Am I alone in this?

Used to be a huge fan and would often use them instead of bread with tuna, cottage cheese, chicken salad etc.. also love them all crumpled up in soup. I realize my love of crackers is now sorta gone by the wayside .. Of course my favorites were the nice buttery Ritz. I realize no cracker is going to have much in the way of nutritional value but I sure would love to still have them for my soup. Anyone found a nice whole wheat low fat cracker?

My doc has said 60-70 as well for protein intake. I plan 1 snack a day but again that was his instruction. I do have the unflavored protein powder from GNC. I do my best to get most of it via food .. eggs, quiche, tuna, cottage cheese greek yogurt however also add it to the cottage cheese, tuna, even DD ice tea.. it litterally has no flavor so I can make almost anything high in protein.

What do you eat for breakfast everyday?
KAS1971 replied to spoiltmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I made a low fat quiche from the lap band recipie site .. the textuse is not a lot like quiche but the flavor was surprisingly not bad at all. I eliminated the parmasean cheese and added a little fat free feta instead... made 8 slices, each slice 12 gm Protein .. and quite filling 1 (8 or 9 inch) low-fat pie crust 2 slices low-fat Swiss cheese 2 cups fat free cottage cheese 2 ounces lean deli ham slices (about 5), diced 1 onion, chopped 2 eggs, beaten together with 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup fat-free shredded cheddar cheese 2 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese fresh ground black pepper Directions 1.) Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. 2.) Bake pie crust until slightly browned. Remove and set aside. 3.) In a medium bowl, mix cottage cheese and diced ham. Place Swiss cheese slices on the bottom of the crust. Scoop cottage cheese mixture on top. 4.) In a small skillet sprayed with non-stick cooking spray, saute onion until light brown; place on top of cottage cheese. Pour eggs on top and sprinkle cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese over entire quiche. 5.) Bake about 40 - 50 minutes, until edges are slightly browned. -
We have had a beautiful relationship for many years now. Your availablility at my local deli has been wonderful, sometimes pre-packaged and not even making me stand in line. Your ability to share the bread with lettuce & tomato is amazing. I have never met a chicken salad I loved more. Your nice big chunks of white meat, your creamy mayo dressing, that slight hint of brown sugar, the chopped onion and egg yolk .. MMMM .. there will never be another quite like you. Sadley I have just read your nutrition label and I'm afraid I will need to break things off . You just won't be accomodating to my new found lifestyle. Despite your wonderful Protein content your 420 cal. & 35 fat grams per 1/2 cup are no longer welcome in my life. We have just had our last fling .. I hope it was good for you cause MMMmm it was good for me .. I'm sure you will make some size 2 toothpick who can afford to have a relationship with you very happy. I'm afraid I'm just not her. So I'm in the market for a new chicken salad or recipie .. any suggestions???

I do a pkg of instant oatmeal with no sugar added and a scoop of unflavbored protein. As I am still on mushies it's one of the few things I find "sticks to the ribs" and keeps me satisfied a while.

I was just reading your journey and your just such an inspiration. I am only 2 weeks post op and still VERY overwhelemed w/ all the changes I need to make. Slow but I'm sure I hope it will all come together and I can be half as successful as you have been. Any tips for a brand new newbie??

I add a scoop of unflavored whey protein and I think it makes it even creamier and less like sour cream .. delicious !

Lots of talk preop and 2 weeks post op of exactly how much of this how much of that. This weekend I move on to mushies then soft. Do people litterally keep a notebook of what they eat every day? Do you track protein? calories? Fat? This is suddenly feeling very overwhelming and what felt very strict 2 weeks ago is suddenly a little less strict and scary.

1 week Post Op & not HUNGRY ...
KAS1971 replied to glam_gabbi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Enjoy it while it lasts cause it won't be too much longer. I am now 11 days out from post op and hungry way more then I want to be. And it's not just head hungry it's 2am stomach growling and your not falling back to sleep if you don't eat hungry. I hate it. -
Well I wasn't much of a cook before my surgery and realize it will be something I will have to try and learn to like after. Luckily I am only 1 wk. post op and have a little time. Wondering if anyone has seen a cookbook for us real newbies, simple instructions, simple small ingredient lists.. the basics really that are low fat and high protein.

Was sort of an "oh by the way" there is a good chance you have a hiatal hernia and we just fix that up, will only take an extra 20 min or so. I guess this isn't too abnormal?
-
what did you take before your band? Benedryl personally knocks me on my butt, but almost everything is OTC now, Claritin, Allegra etc .. ask the pharmacist for suggestions
-
Good to know I'm not the one out of the loop. I noticed it yesterday as well and had no clue so figured I'd mind my own bussiness..

Ok lets talk sleeping
KAS1971 replied to lovemysgt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 9/14 and was told nothing specific Re: sleep. It has been most comfortable in a straight back chair w/ a footstool to be honest. Getting into a laying position in bed w/ ports pulling, dressings coming loose, and the never ending gas/back pain that makes me feel like I am suffocating has been worth skipping the bed. I am hoping by Mon. I will turn the corner and next week will be better -
sounds like I am right where I should be.. still uncomfortable, scraed to take much of anything and when I do it feels like it dosnt go down for hours. At times I get more of a back pain with this. I am also finding posioning difficult. Definately not comfortable if I take a few bites of yogurt then lay back to watch a little tv. Feel like I need to stay straight up and down
-
Called the surgeon just to ask and he thinks it has more to do with a small clog of the eustation tube from the tube being down. Stated to try some liq. decongestant like dimetapp.

I was just banded 9/14 and today feel as though I could have an ear infection. Think that could still be gas pain? I never had the shouder pain just the elephant on the chest feeling which is resolving, but why the ear all of a sudden? Its day 2 with ear pain now.

My banding is this Tuesday.. I think I picked up most of the basics needed for when I get home Gas Ex, found the heating pad, food wise I think I'm good. Anything you realized the 1st few days home something you found you needed or would have helped

I hear your pain Fenton. I am doing water aerobics now at 320 pounds .. I'm not loving the bathingsuit part but I am loving the class. I am not by any means the biggest one there. Heck we have people who need their cane just to get in and out of a pool .. so if their cane dosnt stop them I surely cant let 300 pounds stop me. I am also doing some walking and am happy to report that just getting the sneakers on is no longer a work out..lol Seriously I was out of breath just doing that for a while and have all I can do to bend over and get them on. Just little bits at a time and eventually it will all come together. I get my band this Tues 9/14/2010 and am looking forward to the extra "help" in getting this weight off.
