  1. I would definately call you doctor. I am over a year out and fell on ice this week. Some !#$#@%#$%#$ either dumped or droped a full cup of coffee in the parking lot at the conveinance store but did'nt go in to tell anyone. I jumped out of my suv (did'nt look down; but there is no ice/snow on the ground yet here) and down I went on this huge ice patch. Someone could have really been hurt. Anyway my port area was sore for 2 days so I am not suprised yours is painful so close to surgery.

    Am I Overeating?

My doctor has never give me instruction based on 1/2 or 1 cup of food. He did however say I should have 3 oz of solid protein per meal; plus a veggie and fruit. If you have not yet done so buy a good digital food scale so you can weigh your protein.
  3. My doctor never said I could'nt have alcohol. I am not now nor have I ever been a drinker however. If I was given the choice between 200 calories of alcohol and 200 cal. of cake there would be no competition.
  4. If you are at 600 calories a day I would not worry about croutons! In fact 600 in my opinion is too low. Though I guess I would ask how much exercising you are doing. I do an hour of moderate + cardio a day and I would not function well on those few calories (and still be able to work full time). If you really want potato could you try baked rather than mashed? Also could you use sweet instead of white?
  5. I think that calorie count is crazy. Thin people get their nutrition from food and maybe a multivitamin. I take a chewable children's multi with Choline (per my doctor), chewable calcium, chewable vitamin D, and chewable fiber. Nowhere near those calories. You would have to eat a lot of veggies to get to 100 calories; and get a whole lot of vitamins in the deal.
  6. My doctor required that I loose 10% body weight before surgery (started at 332). I was recovering from a blood clot which led to my surgery being postponed. I ended up loosing 50 pounds before surgery. So is it impossible for you to do the same no. I will say that I had already started an exercise program after I had a STROKE at 39. 39!!!!!! Because of a really painful knee problem (due to my weight). The only exercise I could do for an extended period was swim. I bought myself a fat lady swimsuit (with skirt), a waterproof mp3 player and swam. An hour a day 7 days a week. Is that a huge commitment sure. I still did no consider the lap band until my one of my doctors asked if I had ever considered weight loss surgery. I would find a doctor whose presurgery requirements include therapy sessions on over eating. I learned so much from those sessions! While I see the band as helping me eat like a normal person; I had to learn new eating patterns and choices. I now try to live by the 90/10 rule. If I eat conservatively 90% of the time I can have treats at Christmas or my Birthday. I can not however have a treat everyday. Do not think the Band will be miracle. This will be work. Took me 6 months to get restriction so the band did'nt give me any help until then.
  7. At day 9 I was still on full liquids; so I would say having wine at that point would have have a no.
  8. I have asked my doctor's office to run additional thyroid tests when I do my blood work for my yearly physical. In the past my thyroid levels have been low. However the Nurse Practioner was like "oh it's not that bad". I think most doctor's offices don't want to admit a fat person can actually have a thyroid problem. They think we will use it as a crutch. My loss has also slowed to a stop. I am always cold, I have hair loss and am fatigued.
  9. I would not move to solids until Thursday. Also if you go to KFC they do have grilled chicken. Take off the skin and it is pretty healthy. You can use BBQ dipping sauce if it is too dry.
  10. After reading on this site that most doctors frowned on my coffee I asked my doctor. He was a bit suprised and said I could drink coffee if I wanted. I have reg in the morning and try to mix in decaf through the day as we have free coffee and work and I drink more than I should.
  11. I would recommend having healthy options available when you get really hungry at an unexpected time. Such as string cheese, veggies (stuff that does'nt take any preparation sugar snap peas, mini peppers, baby carrots/hummus). When I am caught unprepared is when I get stuck making the wrong food choices.
  12. Took me 6 months of getting fills every 3-4 weeks to get restriction. If you have not done so yet buy a good digital food scale. Measure out your protein (my doctor says 3 oz) and then eat low cal/ carb veggies (no butter/cream). I don't think enough doctors tell people this is a will power diet at the begining.
  13. If you doctor does not required therapy sessions on mindful eating find a psychologist who specializes in eating disorders. I had three group sessions and they were much more helpful than I would have expected. Being banded is at least 50% mental. I view the band as eating like a normal healthy thin person. Start that journey now. You need to develop healthy eating habits. And they are habits. The more you live these habits the more automatic they will become.
  14. I try not to eat a lot of dried fruit as it is high in calories for volume. I do not however have any trouble with dried cranberries and dried cherries (costco brand is moist and a good price).
  15. Hard to say. Some people recommend chewing papaya tablets. Are you eating solids? My doctor did not allow solids until week 5. If you had a bad stuck episode you may be very swollen tomorrow. I would go back to full liquids for one day, and then eat mushies for another week. I was on mushies week 3 and 4. Week three was cottage and ricotta and week four canned chicken.
  16. If I had to choose to have surgery outside the US I would probably feel more comfortable having surgery in Belgum than I would Mexico. I did however live in Europe so that could explain my opinion.
  17. My doctor has never said how much volume I should eat. He did however say I should be getting 3 oz of solid protein at every meal in addition to non starchy vegetables and fruit. That would never fit in 1/4 of a cup and probably not 1/2.
  18. I told my family, one of my friends and a couple plus size women at my gym. I started a new job 6 months after surgery. While am still over weight these people did not know me at my largest 160 pounds ago (I lost about 100 pounds before surgery). I choose not to tell these people because you know they will be sure to remember the one munchkin you ate at the coffee station but forget the baked skinless chicken breast and veggies that you have every day for lunch.
  19. Ask your doctor if they left any liquid in the band. I've seen many people write in with similar issues and it turns out they have liquid in their band. If so get it out and you should do much better.
  20. I want to clarify that I did not do my liquid diet for the whole seven months. When my surgery was postponed I did go to one shake a day with two meals. As my sugery got closer I went back to 2 shakes a day. I also was swimming presurgery which helped with weight loss. My doctor recommend a 500 calorie a day liquid diet that I did for 5 days and had to stop. One I was OBSESSED with my next shake. The largest reason I stopped however was the shakes gave me a tingely feeling in the back of my throat like a food allergy. My brother has deadly food allergies so I was'nt going to mess around with that.
  21. I really liked Pacific branch Sweet Red Pepper/tomato soup (sometimes found in the organic section). I would add Mrs. Dash salt free Chicken season before heating in the microwave. This would reconstitute the minced spices and the taste was fabulous (after being on clears). I would make the soup and then wait it out for an hour or so and then have the protein shake. Spreading out my eating helped with the head and stomach hunger.
  22. Mattz I hear you. I also work an hour from home so I don't get to the gym until at least 6:30. I often don't get home until 8:30-9:00. Personally I swim. Keep in mind when I started I would have told you I hated swimming. First of all I have terrible chlorine allergies; and get ear infections at the drop of a hat. I use a snorkle (so no Water in my eyes or nose); and attach a water proof MP3 player. Makes all the difference in the world. Many gyms today have TV's on each machine which helps with the boredom.
  23. I had a fill 3 days ago and the nurse practioner said "If you can't eat solid protein and veggies/fruit at every meal; you are TOO TIGHT". Sounds like you need a slight unfill. I am a year out and knock on wood I have never vomited, frothed or slimmed.
  24. I had a fill recently, first in 7 months. After my mushie lunch I went to BJ's and they were giving out warm sugar cookie samples. Boy did those suckers smell! Anyway. I really was not at all temped. I was full and the idea of eating anything more kind of grossed me out. In general when I'm full I don't have the desire to eat anything more.
  25. Hi. Please don't think I am saying this to be mean spirited. If you gained 10 pounds while you thought you were dieting I think you should avoid fruit in your smoothy. The reason I say this is it sounds to me like you need to be more focused on serving sizes. I know it's a drag but start measuring everything that you eat. Even in the smoothy. Measure out 8 ounces of fat free milk, don't just glug it in. Over weight people are notoriously bad (myself included) at accurately determining serving sizes. Also measure out 8 oz pour it into your drinking glasses and coffee mugs. I discovered one of my mugs was 12 oz when I thought it was 8. So I would have been having 1 1/2 portions. I was on my own preop diet for 7 months and lost 50 pounds. The week presurgery I did 1 Protein shake for Breakfast and another for dinner, with a low cal/fat high protein lunch. I was including fruit in the smoothy but my nutritionist said post op NO fruit. Post op your stomach is healing and it should not be moving around trying to digest fruit.
