How many CC is your Lap Band Filled until you're not hungry?
honk replied to Carfigure's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got restriction at 10.6 CC's and 6 months later needed to have .3 added. 11 CC band -
If my math is correct you have lost 2.5 pounds a week since surgery. That is a lot. My doctor says the average is 1-2 pounds a week. Since that's an average you can be more or like me less. You may need to reevaluate your expectations.

Kind of like when the 20 somethings put on a bikini to do laps at the gym's pool. Seriously?

Tell Me About Your Feet After Losing Weight
honk replied to GLove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did'nt neccesary have foot pain. My knee is another matter. I was getting knee injections to deal with horrible pain (could hardly walk anywhere). I can now walk 3 miles with no problem. I have the worst flounder feet. 130 pounds lost and my feet are still as wide as ever! -
I can eat any food I want and I am at restriction. The biggest thing for me is choosing when I will eat something. I don't eat hamburgers or pizza on a regular basis anymore. In my opinion we need to reevaluate our eating habits. Having red meat daily is not healthy. Having it once a month is fine. I don't think you have to give up food you like forever; you just should'nt be eating daily.

All Scales Are Not Created Equal!
honk replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just bought the Eatsmart scale but have not used it yet. My other scale has been doing the 5 pound shuffle when you get on and off in a 30 second time frame. -
Staff Giving Confusing Information About Projected Weight Loss
honk replied to bev712's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor never gave a preferred size of bite. Regarding weight loss I was told you could loose half of your excess body weight. Remember depending on you age (which affect metabolism) you may never get back to what you weighed when you were 20. Even thin people don't weigh at 40 what they did at 20. -
This holidays got me, how about you????
honk replied to DeeDee40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could have water weight if the party type food you ate was salty. Do you have an exercise program? I am trying to take advantage of my current unemployment and going to the gym twice a day. -
Pre Surgery Liquid Diet Failing - Ideas, Help?
honk replied to kymie9899's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How far off are you in the required weight loss? If it's 5 pounds or more I would go to 3 protein shakes a day. 200 calories each (I made mine fat free milk). -
Am I Already Intaking ...
honk replied to rachelcummings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't neccesarily think you are eating to much; though my question is when are you allowed to move to mushies? I was not allowed to have yoghurt until my 4 th week. -
My doctor said to weigh the mushies out to 3 oz. No crackers they are not mushie they are solids and nothing but processed carbs. Yes I know it sucks.

Vitamins And The Clear Liquid Diet
honk replied to BeLikeBey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would stop taking your vitamins. My doctor said to stop them 2 weeks prior to surgery. -
Don't really have any advice on making it taste better. Premier brand ready to drink found at costco is quite good 160 cal. 30 g of protein.

Food Question For Sucessful Banders
honk replied to Kristen1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am at restriction and can eat anyting I ate before with two exceptions. I can only eat raw carrots with the help of hummus, and cheap white bread rolls like you get at low end restaurants for an app gets stuck big time. As part of my presurgery journey I had to attend 3 mindful eating therapy sessions where we discussed trigger foods and the emotional roots of over eating. Took me 6 months to get restriction. This very well could be a very mental battle for MONTHS from your first appointment. Do you have a thin family member or friend whose eating habits you can study? What I try to do is live by the 90/10 rule. Eat very healthy 90% of the time excerise 7 days a week. At a family birthday or Christmas I can have dessert or crackers and cheese. -
Most preop diets are all protein with VERY Limited carbs. If you MUST have solids I recommend ditching the bread and noodles in the soup. The are all carbs. A better form of carbs would be carrots, peppers which would give you something to chew and have low calories.
-
Yes I retain a lot of water during TOM. And NO do not start solids early. Solids are solids. Period. I asked if I could move from full liquids to soft mushies (cottage cheese) 2 days early and my doctor said absolutely not. I would suggest having your soup (say tomato) waiting a few hours and then having the protein shake. Helps with the head hunger.

Started Solids Early.... Concerns (warning Tmi)
honk replied to BylawTom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How early is early? My doctor's program did not have solids for 4 week! Please return to your doctors food plan. Being on liquids and mushies is sucky but it is doable. Your stomach is healing from surgery! I would hold off on solids at this point. -
Anybody Else's Dietician Make Them Feel Like Crap?
honk replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would absolutely NEVER see this person again. I would send a written letter to the surgeon and if appropriate send a copy to THEIR boss if they have one (hospital administrator). Totally unacceptable. -
Gotta Quit Smoking...
honk replied to KathyOfAlabama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about those e cigarettes. Near me they have kiosks at the mall. I think you get a small amount of nicotine and you use a small device that you use like a cigarette. -
4 Years Later.. Better Late Then Never
honk replied to BlueTattoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a sit down job and was back to work after 1 week off (but with weekends 9 days). My only concern is hitting the port incision which is the largest at like 3 inches and does hurt the longest. I would hurt pressing that against the table. -
I have lost 130 pounds and have gone from a 52D/DD to 42 D.

Gotta Quit Smoking...
honk replied to KathyOfAlabama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your doctor going to give you a test weekly? Otherwise how would they know you are using patches or gum to quit? Seems short sighted to me that they want you to quit cold turkey with no help. -
Does Anyone Else Eat Sugar Free Protein Bars?
honk replied to Angela the Breeder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If you are eating the bars as a meal I would'nt worry about the 320 cal. After all that would be only 960 cal per day which I don't think is that high. Esp. If you are working full time and doing cardio. If you decide to have the almonds I would measure them out into 1 oz portions so that you know you are'nt over eating. -
Does Anyone Else Eat Sugar Free Protein Bars?
honk replied to Angela the Breeder's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
May not help you but for Breakfast at work I would have a chobani yoghurt (non fat with fruit) to which I would add the following. The night before I would put these add-ins into a mini baggie half a scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder, 1 tsp benefiber non flavored, spendra. In a second baggie 1/4-1/2 high protein Kashi go Lean. about 250 cal and 25 g protein. If you can't get the time to mix and eat that than there's a problem at your job. You have the right to time to eat. Talk with HR if you have to. As for nuts my guess is your doctor does'n want someone eating a whole can of honey roasted almonds. Nuts are high in fat and so telling you not to eat them ever is a way to prevent someone gorging on them. I have started to cut back on the amount of Kashi and adding some raw pecans to my yoghurt. -
I don't see why not if you band has never had any fill. Took me 6 months of fills to get restriction. As part of your new life style I would buy a digital food scale (walmart/target). Ask your doctor how much solid Protein you can have per meal (mine says 3 oz others do 4oz). Measure it out and tell yourself no seconds. I am about 16 months out and I still measure all my food at home and what I take to work. As I mentiond took me 6 months to get restriction so this is going to be a mental battle for now. As I'm sure your doctor will tell you the first 24 hours after the fill should be full liquids (Protein shake no fruit and smooth Soup like tomato), and the second 24 mushies (canned chicken or tuna I mix it with low fat laughing cow cheese)>.
