I was allowed to wear undies. A bra would get in the way of the surgery. One of my incisions is right below my bra line in the center.

Try adding Mrs Dash salt free flavorings to the broth and or stock it makes a big difference.

Surgery In 5 Days And Haven't Told Anyone.....
honk replied to Brandi18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't feel the need to tell coworkers. Once you are healed you will eat solid food like everyone else. If you can't eat 3 oz of solid protein you are too tight. Knock on wood I have never had a PB or thrown up. Weight is the one area that people feel they can mind YOUR business. I don't need anyone acting like the food police. -
If you're not eating many calories probably not. The idea of the preop diet however is to greatly reduce carbs however and potato is all carbs. I would take something to help you upset stomach.

Does your college have a pool. I had a really bad knee problem and the only exercise I could do was swimming. I highly recommend a water proof mp3 player makes time go by so much faster (available on Amazon.).

A couple months out I started to loose hair. I have reallllly thick hair so no once else notice; but I was still concerned. I started to take Biotin 5000 (caplets are tick tack sized) and my hair loss really slowed down. When I asked the weight loss nurse about the hair loss she said I wasn't loosing fast enough for that to be the cause. Jeez thanks!

I Need More Protein. Please Help!
honk replied to Sammatha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have access to a Costco, Premier Brand Ready to Drink (chocolate and vanilla) are quite good 160 cal for 30 g of protein. -
My doctor has NEVER told me to eat by cup volume. He said to weigh 3 oz of solid protein and eat low call veggies until mostly full and then perhaps have fruit. The protein is close to 1/2 a cup by itself.

I was on clear liquids for 7 days and full liquids for another 7. It sucks but those are the rules.

Which Pre-Op Diet Is Best??
honk replied to Sazparella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask your doctor about whether they want you to add protein powder. As for yogurt Greek style has A LOT more protein. I buy low fat Chobani that have fruit and add splendra because it tends to be more sour than regular yogurt. -
8 Months Out And Have Barely Lost Any Weight. Help!
honk replied to Ruth613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like you don't have enough restriction. Also it's impotant to exercise. I am a slow loser even though I try and stay below 1000-1200 cal a day and am doing 2 hour of cardio a day. -
My doctor said to weigh solid protein to 3 oz. For lunch I would go to 3 oz and make up the rest of your lunch with low fat veggies.

I think about food more now than I ever did. Mostly because I have to plan my own meals. I used to just stop by McD's or somewhere else and eat crap. For me lack of planning is my biggest down fall. If I have a meal planned I don't have an excuse to eat something unhealthy.

Old Time Bandsters, I Need You On This One
honk replied to GLove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My question for you would be can you live like this forever? And I do mean forever! I am very good at losing weight on very restrictive diets. I've done it 3 times in my life. Never eating candy, cake, french fries, ANYTHING fatenning. After a year or so it starts to get me down. I say to myself well I can have X today and that will be fine. Then the next day I do it again and before you know it I am well on my way to regaining that 100 pounds. Recent research has shown that the all or nothing mentality makes you doomed to failure. As part of my presurgery process I had to meet with a psychologist about my eating habbits and triggers. I learned a lot about what triggers me to eat. I've really created a new philosophy about food. Do I eat the items listed above? No. But they also don't call out to me. The band helps me with my illogical desire to eat all the time. It helps the rational side of my brain during the "Are you sure your hungry" discussions with the irrational side. If I've just eaten I am not hungry enough to need to eat something else. Once every 3-4 months when I do have a piece of someone's birthday cake I have a normal person size piece of cake. I don't need to eat half of the cake. -
Extremely Frustrated And Concerned....
honk replied to tammyg1969's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My question would be portion side. I have never done Atkins so forgive me if I make any mistakes. A serving size of red meat is 3 or 4 oz. A hamburger at a restaurant however could easily be 8 oz. So you may think you are following the program but are in reality eating way to much. Are you measuring your food? I highly recommend buying a digital food scale. Availble at Walmart or Target for $20. You will need it post op (at least my doctor says to measure all your mushies or solid Proteins to 3 oz). Again eating out (and I don't know if you are or not) makes it really hard to know how much you are getting. I once ordered a grilled chicken and veggie sandwich (pre surgery) at a pizza joint and asked for lite cheese. They asked me how many slices I wanted, I asked "Well how many do you normally use". They said 3!!!! That's like 240 calories and 21 g of fat. Way more than I would have thought. I said one slice thanks. Also for Breakfast bacon has a lot less fat and calories than sausage. Chicken breast has a lot less fat and caloris than red meat or pork. As to a previous statement about the post op diet. My doctor had me on Clear Liquids 7 days, full liquids 7, thin mushies 7, thicker mushies 7, and then back to full solids. -
One Week Post-Op What Are You Eating???
honk replied to kr8160311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked Pacific Brand sweet red pepper/tomato soup to which I would add Mrs Dash non salt chicken flavoring (before heating so the herb bits would reconsitute). I would use a stick blender to mix up fruited Greek yogurt (I added splendra because Greek yogurt is sour); add fat free milk if it is too thick. If you are going to eat ready made suger free pudding cups but name brand versions they are so much better. -
Feeling A Little Weak And Dizzy In The Morning..........
honk replied to fitfrlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a medical professional. My guess is your blood suger is low. My surgery was long ago. Recently I got up in the morning and waited to eat until I decided whether to go to the gym (trying to plan my hour post eating before I could drink water). Long story short it was now 12:00 noon and I have not eaten since 6:00 the night before. I stood up quickly to answer the door and thought I was going to pass out! -
There are a couple opinions: the slower you loose, the younger you are and / or if you exercise you will be less likely to have excess skin. During my lifetime I have lost 100 pounds (only to regain) and have not had loose skin. Now at 42, including a period before surgery I have lost about 165 pounds. My only loose skin per se is under my chin. I am a slow looser but I do exercise daily for an hour sometimes twice a day.

For me week three was mushies like cottage cheese, yoghurt, ricotta. Week four was canned chicken or tuna.

Do you have a smart phone. Large chains either put the calories for their foods online or a third party does it for them! I would try to share meals if you can; otherwise you will end up throwing half the meal away. Mexican places are usually safe for me as I get chicken fajitas. For breakfast ask for egg whites.

I am the least picky eater ever and my mother has never understood why I don't like Lentils!

Plain Greek yogurt is like eating sour cream! 1) 2 % Greek Yogurt is not as sour as the 0%, 2) For a snack I would add splendra which helps a lot. Also choose one with fruit it in that helps a lot. It dissolves so you don't get a grittiness (which I got with Truvia). For Breakfast I have Chobani Greek yogurt (with fruit), non flavored benefiber, 1/2 scoop whey isolate vanilla Protein powder, and splendra. Mix well. I then add 1/4 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean. I am a fit of a Chobani flavor snob: my favorites Cherry, Apple Cinnamon, Raspberry, Pinapple, Peach.

Pbing A Lot With Having No Fill Yet
honk replied to Iliciia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You must tell you doctor about this. I agree you may have a fill in there from surgery. You should not be PBing. Knock on wood I have never had a PB incident in over a year and a half. -
One Week Post-Op What Are You Eating???
honk replied to kr8160311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On day 8 I was only allowed to move to full liquids. Sounds like you can move to mushies. My first week of mushies was yogurt, low/fat free cottage cheese, smooth spagetti sauce (no meat or veggies). -
How Long Am I Going To Have To Wait For Restriction?

Six months for me!
