Just looked 120 Cal for 3 g of Protein. I would give them a pass. Look for Pure Protein Bars about 180 Cal for 20 grams of protein. Or just eat an apple if on the go. Considering the crap I used to eat; I'm not going to sweat the natural sugars from an apple!

Am I In The Green Zone Or Sweet Spot?
honk replied to SkinnyMiniMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't count calories during the day but I do often look back in the evening and see approx. how many I've consumed. I stay in the 1000-1200 range. I do think 800 is too low. Keep in mind the more solid your food the longer it will keep you full. Egg salad won't keep you as full as chicken breast. My doctor says you are in the green zone if you can go 4.5 hours before being hungry. I am bit torn as to the advice to give you. If you can't consistantly go 4.5 hours before you are hungry; I'd say you need a fill. However if you are loosing some weeks 3-5 pounds I'd say you don't need a fill. Also you mentioned rarely feeling pain. You should not feel pain at all! I am at restriction and don't get stuck episodes unless I do something stupid. Like eating raw carrots plain which I KNOW is a problem. I would have a frank discussion with you health profession and ask their advice. That is afterall why you pay for their expertise. -
Doctors are afraid you will drink way more calories than you realize. Though my Nurse Practictioner says once you are at restriction you may need to be have a shake in the morning. Since I usually have a long time between lunch and dinner (since I go to the gym after work) I have a premier protein shake 30 g protein for 160 calories.

My doctor never said I had to take an antibiotic before dental work. My mother does that but she had two hip replacements.
-
NO!!!!! My doctor said no vitamins or remedies for 2 weeks prior to surgery. As mentioned earlier these items can affect blood clotting and affect healing times.
-
If your doctor said clear liquids than stay on clears! Try stock vs. broth it tastes better. You could also strain the liquid out of canned soup. Mrs. Dash saltfree flavorings are great. Add them before heating the stock.

Low fat cottage or ricotta cheese. Mix tuna or egg with low fat laughing cow cheese instead of may. I would say no to peanut butter. I justified that it was a mushie and had protein and was eating way way way to much of it. It has way to much fat and sugar. I used a stick blender to mince up the fruit in greek yogurt. Added splendra because it is pretty sour.

Okay don't take this as being mean spirited. In the future plan to buy a hamburger no bun or fries and eat it while your daughter eats. I find the best defense against temptation is a plan. I'm sure you thought to yourself "I'm not going to eat anything this place is unhealthy." But by not ordering something you were tempted to eat bad choices. I have a friend that managed a fancy bistro. Mothers would come in buy really unhealty food for their kids and a green salad no dressing for themselves. The mother would eat all the kid's food and leave their salad. I'm sure their mentality was "I ordered a salad" yeah but they ate nachos and fried chicken fingers too.

Foods Aren't Really That Hard To Eat And I'm Two Weeks Out.....
honk replied to alliemichelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try spacing out your eating. Are you at the beginning or end of 2 weeks? At week two I could have full liquids: so I would have smooth soup wait as long as I could and then have the protein shake. At week three: have smooth soup wait as long as possible and have the yoghurt. It gave my head the feeling like I was eating more. If I ate everything at one setting It felt like an eternity before I got to eat again. -
Don't keep any of that stuff in your house. If you have to get in your car, drive to the store, you will be able to marshall your will power and say no.

Foods Aren't Really That Hard To Eat And I'm Two Weeks Out.....
honk replied to alliemichelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now you don't have a pouch at all! The band is just sitting there around the stomach. When you get fills the band actually expands like a balloon when the saline is added. This creats the pouch by creating a something akin to a funnel. I am not a medical professional, that is just how I view the band. Buy a scale and measure your Protein. At two weeks I would have 8 oz of smooth soup (tomato or sweet red pepper), and then a container of yogurt. At three weeks I could have 3 oz of cottage or ricotta cheese. This is a will power diet for now. I wish more doctors gave patients realistic expectations. -
A Month And Half Post-Op, I Need A Guide
honk replied to TiffanySeacrest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. How you purchased a digital food scale? Availble at Target / Walmart. I still measure all my Protein at every meal keeps me honest. Eat the protein first and then veggies until full. I live by the rule if I would be embarrased for my doctor (or the nurse practitioner God help me!) to see me purchase something then I should'nt be eating it! Do you have thin friends or family that you can observe to see what they eat? -
Colon Cleanse Before Surgery
honk replied to Ready2BFit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read that cleanses are actually bad for you. Your intestines have a delicate eco system (good bacteria). First night home after surgery I spent the night in the toilet, cleansing to beat the band. I would'nt spend the money to be truthful. -
First Fill Tomorrow...shrugs...do I Really Need It?
honk replied to phatkatblue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most doctors say full liquids for 24 hours then mushies for another 24 after a fill. If you had a bad fill donor eat solids today! -
I have 10.9 in a 11 CC band.

Probably Common Sense...but My 1St Fill Experience

As mentioned by previous posters if you provide some details we may be able to advise you. I wish doctors were more frank that this is a will power diet at the beginning. I got to restriction after 6 months of fills. I am a slow loser. I think it is because I had lost 100 pounds presurgery through exercise and diet. What are you eating? At this point in your journey in my opinion you need to be on a very strick low cal/fat diet. Choosing grilled chicken and not chicken with gravy or cheese, or some sauce. Veggies with herb seasonings and not french fries, or mashed potatos. What kind of exercise are you doing for how long and how intense? Is it an hour really pushing it so you are tired when you get off; or a gentle stroll for 30 minutes.

Yikes! Liquid Diet Starts Today!
honk replied to magicfanpjc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would look for stock it has more flavor than broth. Also non salt Mrs. Dash flavoriings add alot. Put it in before heating so the herb bits reconstitute. -
Solids Week Out From Surgery
honk replied to BandedNeakyMinx12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your doctor not tell you about the post op food plan!?!? My doctor had me on clear liquids for 7 days, full liquids (tomato soup) 7 days, 7 days smooth mushies (yogurt), 7 days lumpy mushies (cottage cheese). PLEASE STOP ANY CHEATING!! You can damage your stomach at this time. The post op diet sucks but you need to follow it. I know you are new to the board. Please don't take my post as being mean spirited. I really am a supportive person. When it comes to someones long term health I will be very pointed. Being able to eat solids does not mean you should. -
How To Bring Lap Up To My Doctor?
honk replied to apelt001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you checked with your insurance to see if they cover the surgery? That would be the first place I would look before speaking with the doctor. -
I only have trouble with low quality doughy bread. I think half the prolem doctors have with bread is the stuff you eat with it: butter, jam, gravy. All those things are either high in fat or carbs.
