Drinking protein is not going to keep you full. The band is meant to work with solid food. I do recommend trying to 5 day pouch test as I found it really works for me. The test however is really more about your stomach constricting. Protein shakes aren't magical they don't make you not hungry. I think a lot of people think back to their pre op diet when they lost a lot of weight and think that shakes make you lose weight. The reality was pre op a lot of us weighed 300 pounds and lowering calorie consumption to 700 calories a day makes you lose weight.

Please be very careful with diclofenac. After taking it for a year I had a mini stroke. The doctors couldn't really say why I had it. Later I read several studies that showed people that take prescription strength NSAIDS have a much greater chance of having heart attacks or strokes.

Has anyone ever changed Docs in the pre op phase?
honk replied to Mamoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor's office had 2 nutritionist the first 1 I didn't like the second 1 I got along much better with. Regarding your test. I would call and ask specifically for the nurse practitioner with whom you're going to work. I would ask is there a reason you should wait to take this test. If there's no reason to wait I would ask they schedule it right away. Find out will she schedule it or do you schedule it. I find doctors offices to be like any other business if you don't set expectations and find out who is going to do a task it will go Undone. If once you've established a relationship with the nurse practitioner and they don't return call then you have a problem. Consider did they not return a call the same day or was it the next day or the day after? A nurse may not consider a call from a pre op patient urgent. I will say that your relationship with the nursing staff is very important. My doctor does not do fills they are done by the nurse practitioner. I really really really like my nurse practitioner. I like my surgeon and I got what I wanted from him an excellent surgery but I don't know if he really would succeed doing feels all day. I don't think you would say that was his calling. -
Surgery Day Approaching..what to expect?
honk replied to CHANged's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had absolutely no gas pain and I mean 0. I was only on liquid tylenol no prescription painkillers. Things that were annoying included spending the first night on the toilet when I got home. Second thing I was allergic to the surgical tape that they used to mark off the surgical field. So I had this large rectangle on my abdomen where everything place the tape had been I had very itchy welts. -
Are you measuring your portions? Research shows if you don't measure you will underestimate how much you're eating. Buy a digital food scale and start weighing your protein my doctor says 3 ounces.

Aleive is an NSAID so my doctor said no.

Ate too much... Oops....
honk replied to CatLady0626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you just eat the inside of the enchilada or did you eat the wrap? If you ate the outside that wasn't a mushy and that could be your problem. -
Once you are healed you should really focus on solid protein versus mushies. That said I do have Greek yogurt for breakfast though I do add half a scoop of protein powder and some high protein cereal. I eat a lot of skinless chicken breast. I buy a roasted chicken from Costco and have chicken breast for lunch everyday.

Original poster are you outside of the US? Last I heard Benefiber was no longer sold in the US. I buy a flavorless fiber powder at Costco that I add to my daily yogurt. I also take a couple Vitafusion gummy fiber chews.

Weight Loss Challenge at Work - Unfair Advantage??
honk replied to Redesigned_Curves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I don't think you should do this. You will see in general many people see this as the easy way out. I can guarantee you that if you win it will look very unethical if your coworkers find out about the surgery. It will be very ugly. Whether you get any help from the band that early it won't matter it will look very bad. You mentioned your boss asking you to join does your boss know you're having weight loss surgery? I work in HR and your reputation is your most important thing at work. And if anyone were to find out about the surgery they might perceive you as a liar if you won the money and didn't tell anyone about the band. -
Protein Shakes....please help
honk replied to KeeSh32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its a type of whey protein. Look for 100% whey isolate. Whey concentrate is a lower form/type of protein. For example optimum nutrition brand gold standard 100% whey is a very good protein. More isolate than concentrate. Double chocolate is very good; 24 g protein for 120 cals, 1 g fat, 3 g carbs. -
Protein Shakes....please help
honk replied to KeeSh32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whey isolate is the highest quality protein. Personally I feel GNC is a rip off. Vitamin Shoppe has much better prices. Isolate is a little more expensive but worth it. -
Progress tomato basil soup with grated Romano.

Taking in too few calories? Weight loss stalled for 2 months!
honk replied to ValAnn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In the same boat. Met with an oncologist to discuss possible thyroid/pcos. Have to wait until my next period to do hormone/ blood tests. I do at least an hour of cardio 7 days a week and stay below 1200. -
I would confirm the dosage you are taking with your healthcare professional as some biotin is only 1,000 mg whereas I take 5,000 mg.

I have a long morning commute. I have a hot coffee while driving. By 9:45 I start mixing 1/2 scoop protein powder into a Chobani yogurt, add some walnuts and Kashi go lean. In the afternoon I have lunch. The later the better since With my workout I don't get dinner until 8.

What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?
honk replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it is also important to remember there is a lot of yardage between frank discussion and being mean spirited. I can always trust the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office to be perfectly frank about my weight loss or lack thereof. I also know she is never rude. Not necessarily this thread but some members of this board don't know the difference. -
I don't know if the band is tighter, but food just isn't tempting.
-
My doctor says if you can't keep down 3 oz solid protein you are to tight.
-
I don't cook so I buy a large roasted chicken at Costco and take 3 oz breast with me for lunch. In 1/2 cup container put a pinch low fat cheese and fill with salsa. Add to chicken and microwave. Super fast/easy/low fat lunch!
-
I told the dietician my schedule had me eating dinner at 8 and she said that was fine. In her opinion the issue with eating late is people are rushed/ starving and make poor food choices, and because they are starving they over eat. Between an hour commute, an hour work out, a shower and drive home. I'm not going to get home any earlier! Are you weighing out 3oz of protein? If you don't measure you will over eat.

Progresso tomato basil is quite good Pacific brand soups are good. Mrs Dash non salt flavorings added before heating soup adds a lot of flavoring.
-
Just say no to from frozen yogurt!!!!!! If you want yogurt in a Protein shake add Greek yogurt a couple ice cubes (you can even make fat free frozen milk cubes) and mix in a blender. Hampton Beach personal blender is fabulous on ice. Add splendra to sweeten. Don't fool yourself that adding frozen yogurt to a Protein Shake makes it healthy.

Who have you told and not told?
honk replied to phdizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish people wouldn't perpetuate this myth that banded people can only eat three bites per meal. -
