    Swimming After The Band.

Please speak with your doctor. I was allowed back at the pool at 2 week. I was doing lap swimming; I would be careful about doing agressive water aerobics for a few more weeks.
  2. I would expect that if you have doctors note that you need light duty your employer would need to respect that. I know in MA that after 5 days you would be eligible for short term disability if your employer offers that. I would expect they would rather give you altered duties than have you be out on disability. Business of course wants everyone to be at 100% all the time. However the reality is if someone had a heart attack or broke a leg they would not be at 100% for quite a while. Go to HR and tell them you are having surgery and will need light duty for several weeks. Tell them you will be able to supply a doctors note. You doctor should give you a note that just says you had abdominal surgery not neccesarily say WHAT kind of abdominal surgery. You do not have to tell them what surgery you are having due to HIPPA law.

    Teenagers Getting Wks?

I strongly disagree that children are not eating because of emotional reasons. My family looked very normal from the outside. My father died when I was 11 from a massive heart attack. We went to church and 2 hours later he was dead. Less then a year later my brother moved back home from a failed marriage (he was 19) and brought a baby with him. I'm sure you can guess how horrible my ex sister inlaw was that he got custody; this being 1981. He was a high functioning alcoholic. Super stressful with a lot of verbal abuse. Over the next 5 years one aunt and 3 uncles died of cancer. Long drawn out illnesses. I was an emotional wreck. I was definatly an emotional eater! I strongly believe that some kids deal with their pain by taking drugs and others are eating themselves to death.
  4. Hi. My doctor says full liquids the first 24 after a fill.

    Scars

I have five scars: 4 are less then 1/4 an inch and after a year and a half look like a small bug bite; port scar is about 3 inches and VERY LIGHT. It is in fact lighter and smoother than my gall bladder scar that is 22 years old! I have so many stretch marks from 40 years of weight loss and gains you really can hardly see them!

    Second Fill

You are too tight! My docto says if you can not eat 3 oz solid Protein and have veggies you are too tight! A fill can subside within the first two weeks however. Please call your doctors office asap however. They may want you to get a very small unfil .2 cc's. A unfill does not have to be a lot it can be small. If you have to drink Protein drinks to get your nutrition you are too tight. Being to tight will backfire on you eventually. Up to and including having the band slip!

    No Pop Ever. Really?

Most doctors say no carbination. You will see people on here that still drink soda. I had stopped drinking soda when out long before banding because of the cost! I was unemployed and soda at a restaurant was $2.00-2.50. Unbelieveable. I have to say I don't really miss it. I can hear your eyes rolling. Seriously. I don't miss it. I did however drink soda right up to the last minute. I would get a jar after being banded and everytime you have a soda craving put a dollar in the jar. After a month see how much money you have in the jar. You will probably have enough money for a new shirt.

    Teenagers Getting Wks?

My concern is whether they are even physically "grown" yet. I know my brother left for college shorter than my dad and came back at Christmas and was taller than dad. "Teen" can mean lots of things anywhere from 13-19. Would I approve of a 13 absolutely NOT. At 19 however I had already lost and regained 100 pounds twice. I would be more likely to approve of the band as you are not cutting out half of the digestive system. I do however see the band journey as being at least 50% mental. My doctor wants me to be able to eat most things, just smaller amounts. However when I go to KFC I get the grilled chicken breast and take the skin off; rather than having fried. I think it would really depend on the maturity of the teen. I was an old soul even as a kid.
  9. My opinion would be you may need more fiber than you are getting if you are having hemroid issues. I take gummy fiber chews both in the morning and at night. I also add benefiber to my Greek yogurt at breakfast.
  10. My doctor does not believe in Snacks. He wants me to eat 3 meals a day that's it. My quesiton for you is have you made preplanned eating times in your day and you eat whether you are hungry or not? My normal eating plan is: Breakfast- Chobani fruited yogurt, half scoop whey isolate vanilla Protein powder, benefiber, about 1/3 cup Kashi high protein cereal. \ lunch - 3 oz skinless chicken breast with either laughing cow cheese, or salsa and low fat cheese, or spagetti sauce with parmasian, raw mini sweet peppers, grapes/cherries/small dole fruit cup Snack- Premier Protein shake (prework out) Dinner-3 oz skinless chicken breast, veggies, fruit I do have a prework out protein shake (160 cal) as I usually have a long time between lunch and dinner (6-8 hours). This is a will power diet until you get restriction. I find the best defense against the munchies is a plan. Have an apple or banana if you need a snack in the evening. Sure they are 100 calories but the pizza was probably 2-3 times that.

    Slow Weight Loss

That's excellent! Almost 11 pounds in 4 weeks is great. In the US doctors say you can loose 0-2 pounds per week. So you are losing more than can be expected. Some people don't loose before their first fill. I am a slow loser; which I attribute to having lost 100 pounds presurgery.
  12. As mentioned above you are way to tight if you cant eat 3 oz off solid protein and veggies.

I'm Too Out Of Shape To Exercise

You are so not alone. At my heaviest I stopped walking to the cafe at work for lunch because it was wayyyyy on the other side of the facility. About 1/2 mile from my desk. I had a really really bad knee problem. I ended up going to a ortho surgeon only to be told I had to loose weight because there was nothing he could do because I was too young for a knee replacement (38). He told me to consider swimming. I bought a fat lady swim dress, swim cap, snorkle (makes swimming easier), Water proof MP3 player and off I went to the pool. If I can walk out of the locker room at 366 pounds dressed like that in front of the high school swim team; ANYBODY can. Swimming or water aerobics are great for heavy people. Now 147 pounds lighter I am doing a 3 miles walk daily (sometimes longer); and going for hour of water aerobics in the evening. As mentioned previously some of us are carrying around AN EXTRA PERSON. No wonder we are tired all the time.
  14. Do you weigh your protein? If not buy a digital food scale and start. I weigh out 3 oz of solid protein and eat low fat/cal. veggies until full. This is a will power diet until you get restricton. In the future if you are going to have pizza have a small salad this will help you have only 1 piece of pizza. Also make sure the pizza has protein like chicken breast. Remember protein helps you feel full.
  15. Stuck is a very heavy painful feeling in the middle of your chest. PB is when you get a wet regurgitation of what ever you just ate. Please note I have only ever been stuck on raw carrots (which are hard as a rock) and cheap doughy white bread. I am at restriction and have never had a PB.
  16. I am a year and a half out and very satisfied I very rarely get stuck only have problems with raw carrots and really CHEAP doughy white bread. Other than that I can eat anything I want. As mentioned previously some keep their bands WAY to tight which causes stucke episodes and vomiting. Knock on wood I have not vomited once since surgery. Please note this will be a will power diet until you get restriction. I was a bit of an outlier took me 6 months before I hit the green zone. Also most people need to exercise to be really successful. Find something you can make yourself do fo 30 days. After that it because a habit. I highly recommend swimming or Water aerobics. If I can come out of the changing room in a fat lady swim dress, goggles, bathing cap, snorkle in front of the high school swimming team; ANYBODY can go swimming!
  17. Are you on broths and Protein shakes? No more chips!!! You could damage your band. Your stomach should not be churning which it does when you eat solids. Call your doctor and ask for food options for this stage of recovery.
  18. Here is my favorite Breakfast Chobani yogurt get vanilla (plain is pretty sour) add in half a scoop whey isolate vanilla Protein powder, benefiber (unflavored), Spendra to taste. About 200 calories for 25 g of protein. Mrs Dash nonsalft flavorings add to stock before heating. Stock has a lot more flavor than broth.
  19. If you have health insurance don't pay any "fees". My first seminar was with a hospital that had a $400 "Fee". This was not for any real services just extra profit for the hospital. I went to a BETTER hospital and did not have to pay anything above insurance costs.

    Stress & Lap Band

Normal yes but you need to stop using it as an excuse to eat ice cream. Buy some ready to drink protein shakes or some powder.
