Hey Does Anyone Notice That They Are Able To Eat More When Your Menstrual Comes?
honk replied to JanellesMommy8210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During PMS I am tighter. Once I start however I am ravenous. I make sure to measure the protein and eat raw veggies until full. -
Did Your Surgeon Tell You This?
honk replied to goodkel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The same thing can be said of joint replacements. They are not lifetime guarenteed either. -
At 7 days out I was on full liquids (tomato soup and protein shakes). It could be yogurt is too much for you at this time. I did not get that until day 15.

Oh My Goodness!!! I Suck!!
honk replied to Idaho Jenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What's done is done. Those of you eating solids STOP! Your doctor told you to eat liquids, mushies for a reason. As to eating pizza. I am at restriction and can eat thin crust pizza. I just don't make it a habit. If I am in a situation usually out with family where pizza is my only option (maybe once a quarter) I eat it. -
What's done is done. I will say you CAN NOT, REPEAT NOT CHEAT POST OP. No excuses, no reasons. NONE. You can do yourself serious damage eating solids before you are supposed to. For now I would do the preop diet with a vengenence. Possibly eat less than you are allowed.
-
I did not have that problem.
-
My doctor does not believe the band should stop you from eating certain foods. I am at restriction and can eat bread Pasta or rice. I choose not to. Are you eating to many white carbs? If so cut them out.

Not to be a downer, but don't expect weight loss daily. If you do you'll be disappointed.

2 Days Post Op And Starving!
honk replied to jesscaba's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even during Clear Liquids I was allowed Protein shakes. Plain though no fruit added! Yes you would be hungry on just broth! -
I agree that I would research and ask your doctor some pointed questions. I also do not encourage breaking your doctors orders. After reading here many doctors forbid coffee I asked "So I guess I can only have decaf from now on?" To which he replied "Why?" My nutritionist said there is some evidence it is a diuretic and can stimulate hunger; but she did'nt see it as a huge issue. I have one cup of regular in the morning and switch to decaf. My coffee consumption is higher at work when I am bored. At least I am drinking calorie free coffee (I take it black with splendra) rather than eating the cookies that get put out.

I am not saying this to be mean. Please follow your doctors orders. Whether you think solids are fine or not your doctor knows best. I know some people do eat cereal for breaksfast but for me it is counter-intuitive. Unless you are going to drink the milk before you eat the cereal you will be drinking while you are eating. For this reason I rarely eat Soup now that I am healed. I drink the liquid and then eat the solids out. Also remember a serving of cereal is usually a cup or less, most cereal bowls hold at least twice that much. After you are cleared for solids this is what I recommend for breakfast. I have a Chobani Greek yoghurt with fruit, 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate powder, walnuts, 1/3 cup Kashi Go Lean high Protein ceral, unflavored benefiber, Splendra.

I'm Beginning To Get Worried!
honk replied to chriskatsmi7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said even at mushies to weight the protein. In my opnion mushies at this point would be cottage or ricotta cheese, yoghurt. I would not consider even pureed ravioli a mushie; and not a based potato. Runny mashed potato yes. Remember your stomach grinds/churns in order to digest food and the more dense your food the harder it has to work. Back to measuring. I bought a digital food scale they are are available at Target and Walmart. I went to a WW store because their scale you can type in the food and it will say how many calories are in the serving on the scale. I still measure out 3 oz of protein at lunch and dinner. I have Greek yogurt for breakfast. -
I know it sounds mean spirited but I don't think the kids need any last bites of candy. Easter is now officially a week ago. As WW would say it's a holiday not a holiweek. Yes bring the rest to work. Yes, this is easy for me to say because I don't have any kids, but they did have Easter and then another 6 days of candy.

That is really a question for your doctor. Mine didn't really do liquid diets but wanted me to loose 35 pounds from the time of consult to the operation.

If your fill is a week old and you can not eat solid protein you are to tight. Go get a small amount taken out say .1-.2 cc's.

Weight Gaining!!! Help!!!
honk replied to LiLEgYAnGeL03's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Until you have fills the band is doing nothing for you. It took me 6 months before I hit the green zone. You mentiond not being very active. If necessary start slow 10 minutes a day of walking; and work up the time until you can do at least 45 minutes. I highly recommend swimming because it's better for those of us with joint issues. If I could start swimming at 365 pounds ANYBODY can! Waterproof MP3 player is a must. Consider getting a digital food scale (available walmart or target). My doctor says to weight out 3 oz of solid Protein. -
How Often Do You Get Stuck?
honk replied to songbird5769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never, only raw carrots and cheap white bread give me problems. -
Feels Like Something Is Stuck In Back Of Throat. What Does That Mean

My nurse did do a complete unfill and there had been minimal evaperation of the saline solution. It does evapurate just slower than water. So there was no leak. Some of us just need a lot more liquid to get restriction.

I can eat pasta; I just don't. It's not really a huge favorite for me. At this point in your journey I would not suggest pasta. Really just a bunch of processed carbs.

Stopped Losing After Week 7
honk replied to russburchfield's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say it's normal. You lost A LOT of weight in the pre/post op. Your body is adjusting to being on solids now and is seeing this as a new normal. 43 pounds is A LOT. Once you start loosing it can slow down. I am a slow looser. -
Going Through Some Depression And Regret
honk replied to Boniluuu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three days out is a hard time. You are still hurting and tired of Clear liquids. It just gets better from here! At 39 I had a stroke. 39! I was working out 5 days a week and trying to eat better. I had lost about 30 pounds. Did not prevent me from being in ICU for a week. I wish I had done lap band years ago. It may have prevented the stroke. It will get better. As you loose weight it will help you stay motivated. -
Daddyof4 it is no ones $%#^ business why you are out of the office!!! I had a coworker who was out for well over a month having a breast reduction. No one discussed why she was out but it was pretty darned obvious when she returned. These are coworkers: not family, not friends (most of them), not fellow church goers (which in my church WERE LIKE family). I told my immediate family and two close work friends. Key word there friends not just coworkers. If I would'nt discuss a serious ailment with them; I don't need to discuss this.

You might want to look for stock instead of broth; it has more flavor. Also, I tried low salt broth and it was disgusting! I don't think this is the time to try and go salt free. You could also ask the nurse if you can add Mrs. Dash no salt flavorings to the broth. My only concern with the herbs is that presurgery they warn you about taking supplements as they can modify how you body reacts to medications during surgery.
