  1. Sorry to be a downer but my doctor said no liquid meals after you've healed. Otherwise you would'nt have needed the band in the first place
  2. I find the only time I really have a problem with this is when I eat really salty food. Lower your salt intake and it will get better!
  3. I was in the bathroom my first night home. All Night! Luckily that was the end of it. Protein shakes do make me gassy so if you are having a lot of shakes that might be causing your problems.
  4. My surgery was for 10:30 but they said I could have apple juice in the morning. My surgery did not end up happening until like 3:00. There was an issue in the surgery before mine.
  5. Are you exercising now? Did you exercise in the past? That can affect the sculpting of the body. By this I mean you could be adding muscle.
  6. I am at restriction and my last fill I def. felt tighter immedidately following; and the band gets tighter and looser depending on stress, etc.
  7. Yes!!! The only thing I would do is have pushed for more aggresive fills. Took me 6 months to get restriction. Maybe I did'nt take really large bites presurgery because I don't have trouble with having to think about smaller bits.

    Protein Shake

Vitamin Shoppe lets you return protein if you don't like it; and exchange for something else. I also find their staff knowledgable and willing to tell you what flavors are popular. GNC tends to try ans sell you whatever is on special that month.

    Need Help

Are you allowed protein shakes as well? Try spacing out your eating: so broth and then an hour later the shake. I realize you will be hungry after the broth but if you wait to have the shake it will help you with the mental game of knowing it's only another hour before you can eat again. Instead of it being 3-4 hours.

I second that Premier Brand Ready To Drink Protein shakes are very good.

    Am I Too Full?

My doctor says 24 hours full liquids then 24 hours mushies. Did you move to mushies before 24 hours? I would say if by day 3 you can't eat 3 oz of mushie protein you are to tight.

    Upset And Antsy!!

That seems crazy to me. My doctor has the nurse practioners give the fills so they are easier to get appointments with. Could you try calling and asking if there are any cancellations? I got several of my fill appointments that way; people often cancel on Fridays. They don't want to do liquids on the weekend!
  14. Do not drink with solid food. EVER. While on mushies try spacing out you food. This may help with head and physical hunger. I would have 8 oz of smooth soup and then an hour later have cottage cheese or ricotta.
  15. I had hair loss at about months 2-4. I started taking Biotin (get 5,000 mg tick tac size) and the loss stopped. It was not super bad but I noticed it while washing my hair. I was taking other medications post op and did not want to take Biotin until I spoke with my hematologist. I buy it at drug stores but look for buy one get one free sales.
  16. I did have pain in the port site, but I was only using liquid Tylenol. I am allergic to codein, morphine. Since my port is on the left hand side I found it easier to get out of bed on the right hand side. In my overnight in the hospital I was in the bathroom all night urinating. Which was super annoying but which meant I did not gain any weight from the IV. My first day home I "ate", slept, and walked around the house. Spent the first night at home in the bathroom with diarrhea; but upside did'nt get backed up like some. NO GAS PAIN AT ALL!!!!! Dr. Brahms Lahey Clinic Burlington MA. Was a passenger for an one hour drive to my mothers on day 3. Day 4 started back at the gym on the treadmill for about 45 minutes (My mother is a gym rat and she goes swimming everyday. Forced me in a good way to get my work outs. I was exercising everyday preop doing an hour of lap swimming so it was'nt a huge shock to my system.) For that first week after going to the gym I would come home and have an hour nap. We would go out to stores like costco so I could walk around but then go back to the car for a break.

    Consultation Appt

My first consult was with a Nutritionist, Nurse Practioner, and Psychologist. I did not meet with the Surgeon for about a month. My insurance did not require a diet but the nurse felt my abdomen and told me I needed to loose 35 pounds before they could do surgery. My insurance company approved me in a week. The called to discuss the surgery with me before I even got the approval letter. My doctor required a recent pap smear, mammogram, cario ultrasound. Since I had just done them I just need to have the results sent to the surgeon. My doctor did require several sessions with a eating disorder pscyologist. If your doctor does not require one I highly recommend you see one on your own! The band is at least a 50% mental battle. Especially the first 6 months until you get restriction. The band will never stop you from eating candy, ice cream those sessions helped me learn new eating habits.
  18. If your doctor does not require sessions with a psychologist who specializes in eating disorders find one! These sessions really really helped me. I had 7 months between first consult and surgery. This gave me a long time to learn new habits. In my opinion thin people have healthier natural eating habits. We need to relearn how to eat. I do think some of it becomes second nature. I once had lunch with a thin friend who had a bag of oreos. He ate all but one and put it back in his lunch bag. I asked him if he was going to throw away a perfectly good oreo! "No, I'm just no longer hungery. I'll save it for later." How many fat people would have done that? The band helps you make that decision to stop eating because you feel satisfied.
  19. I would say I think about what I eat so far as I choose to eat healthy food. For example preband if I was hungry while out shopping I would stop by McD's and get a Quarter pounder with cheese, large fries and a Diet Coke. Now I would choose a Wendy's chili and apple slices. Do I consider that a huge imposition? No. Preband I would stop everyday and get a breakfast sandwhich at McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, Honeydew Donuts. Today I have a Chobani Greek Yogurt with add ins. So yes I have to preplan that and bring it with me (Due to commute I eat when I get to work at 8:00). Do I consider it a hassle? No. It also saves me about 5 bucks. I don't really worry about stuck episodes because I only get them when eating cheap white bread and raw carrots. I also only notice not drinking while I eat if I eat out and the food is really salty. I eat pretty low salt when eating at home.

    Hernia Repair

I had a hiatial hernia repaired and really did not have a lot of pain. I was one of the lucky ones who did not have gas pain either. Surgery was Thursday afternoon. I went back to work the following Monday, so 10 days.
  22. Weight loss is so personal it's hard to say. The Premier ready to drink protein from Costco is very good. If it makes you feel better my doctor wanted me to do a 500 calorie a day liquid diet but I think I was allergic to them. The lean cuisine I would look for higher protein with lower carbs. Many LC are very high in carbs.

    Welll... Yeah....

Anglkrys2, My doctor told me to measure out 3oz of protein during the mushie stage (cottage cheese or ricotta). I was never told 1 Tablespoon would keep me full!

    Weight Gain

I eat mostly chicken as my protein. Do you have a digital food scale? I measure out 3 oz of chicken and then eat raw veggies, and a fruit. Do your stores sell "Greek Yogurt"? This is a kind off yogurt that is much higher in protein and thicker. Can you buy protein powder? For breakfast I have a greek yogurt with, half a scoop Whey Isolate protein powder, Splendra (artifical sweetener, Greek yogurt is sour), 1/3 cup cereal, walnuts. At my heaviest I went swimming everyday. I highly recommend a water proof MP3 player; makes the time go by so much faster. Now that I have lost weight I am able to walk.
