  1. Do you have a digital food scale? If not buy one (availble walmart, target, etc). My doctor says measure out 3 oz of protein and then eat low fat/cal veggies until full. This is bandster hell. You will feel this until you get restricton. Took me 6 months.
  2. Many times when people post their band has slipped they mention they knew it was way to tight for months. Their weight loss was so good though that they didn't want to loosen it. Shrug.

    Advice On Diet

What is your doctor's post op diet progression? I was not allowed solids until week 5. Cherrios are really empty calories, no Protein (milk does have some). I have Greek yogurt with fruit for breakfast with the following add ins: unflavored benefiber, 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate, 1/3 cup Kashi Go lean (high protein), and some walnuts. Not sure on calories but maybe between 300-350, but close to 30 g or protein. My doctor says 3 oz of protein so I would have 2 oz of tuna with the 1 oz of laughing cow. Looks like you have having most of your protein in one meal. Try spreading it out over your day.

    Bmi Too High...

I was at a BMI of 57 when I went to my consult. I was told I had to loose 35 pounds. I lost that weight but had to wait for surgery because I had a blood clot in the brain that had to be completely dissolved. Basically had a stroke at 39! So you can believe I was motivated. Before starting this journey I had already started watching my food intake and exercising and had lost about 60 pounds. Does you doctor have a psychologist in his practice that handles eating disorders? If not find one. My sessions with one really helped me understand why I was overeating and what foods triggered me to overeat. Some suggestions. At 365 pounds I bought myself a fat lady swimdress, snorkel and waterproof MP3 player (look on Amazon) and joined the gym. If I can do it, ANYONE can do it! The snorkel makes it easier for you to swim for longer periods. Water aerobics are also great. You can ask the instructor for suggestions on how to make the exercises harder as you get more in shape. Exercise is a self fulfilling prophecy. When I started I literally could hardly do my grocery shopping because my knee pain was so bad. As you loose weight the easier it is to exercise, the easier the exercise the more weight you loose! I was doing my own diet. It was 8 months from consult to surgery. Having read this site I would have a whey Isolate Protein shake for Breakfast (with fruit) and then low fat/cal protein based lunch and dinner. Some days I would do a shake for both breakfast and supper. This is the time to develop a new relationship with food. I can't stress enough how important that is for you. The band will NEVER EVER stop you from eating cake or candy. Now is the time to start new food habits I was 332 on consult day and 282 the day of surgery.

    Delayed Restriction?

Very normal. My doctor won't give an additional fill for at least 2 weeks because the effect can be delayed.
  6. I am at restriction and the only foods I can't eat are plain raw carrots and cheap white bread. My doctor does not want me to be so tight that I "can't" eat certain foods. I highly recommend meeting with a pychologist who specializes in eating disorder ie overeating. These sessions were really helpful to me. While you could see the band as a regulator/governer for your eating; until you get restriction you are on your own. It took 6 months for me to get restriction; and that entire time was a willpower diet. I wish doctors were more upfront about that. Until you get restriction plan on using a digital food scale. I am at restriction and still measure out 3 oz of Protein per meal. When the food is gone you have to stop eating. Yes, this will be hard. See previous paragraph about this being a will power diet for a while. Here's another biggie. The band will NEVER stop you from eating candy, cake, crackers, ice cream, McD's shakes. NEVER-EVER! I'm not trying to be negative or anti band. The band was the best decision of my life. For warned is forarmed!
  7. I told immediate family, very few friends, and some ladies from the gym. In general I tell people that I am watching what I eat and exercising. Since I stay below 1200 cal a day and have been doing 1-2 hours of cardio a day it's the truth. I really can't stand food police. Since I am very restrictive in my food choices if I decide to have a REALLY small piece of birthday cake at work: I don't feel guilt about it. You can be guarenteed however that some food policeperson will be there to call me out about it. Remember you can't unring a bell. If you tell someone at work EVERYONE will know. I personally don't need the headache.
  8. I was allowed protein shakes from the beginning. You should be fine as long as you don't add fruit to them.

Day 12 Post Opp. An Hungry

Please follow your doctors post op eating plan! The hunger and desire to chew is real. Trust me I know. This will passs. It would be better for you to eat your allowed foods more often (smooth Soup every 2-3 hours) than to eat solids. Your stomach is healing and must not churn; which it does when you eat solids. FYI about 12 days post op I went in for a check up and asked if I could move to mushies 2 days early. The answer. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! So trust me I feel your pain.
  11. Do you need a fill: probably. If you can't go 4.5-5 Hours after eating before you need to eat again you need a fill. You statement " I can eat anything" is one I hear to often on the board. The band is not intended to stop you from eating certain foods. It is meant to help you eat less off them. Yes I do have problems with raw carrot and cheap white bread. Everything else no. Do I wait to eat Breakfast because I am no a early morning person (have never eaten as soon as I got up)? Yes. So that means I don't have trouble eating my breakfast yogurt. Some, have trouble eating solids early morning once at restriction. Small nag. Your body may have adjusted to it's new reality of less calories and without excerise may refuse to give up any more weight. I used to HATE, HATE, HATE swimming. I discovered a Water proof MP3 player which connects to your googles. What a difference that makes. I use a snorkle which makes swimming for those of us who are fabulous swimmers able to work out longer. Water aerobics is also really good. Talk with the instructor and they can tell you ways to make the work out harder; depending on your ability.

    Constipation

I put unflavoured benefiber in Greek yogurt; and take Vitafusion chewable Fiber morning and evening.
  13. I had 6 business days off and two weekends so 10 days. I think you need a week off.
  14. Divine_Woman, not to hijack this thread but perhaps you could get a rolling backpack for your laptop for the first few weeks. I had a collegue that had a very difficult gall bladder surgery (out of work for 3 months, which is not normal people so don't freak out) and she got a rolling backpack for her computer.
  15. Call on Monday and get a very small unfill. Being too fill can lead to a Band Slip. My doctor says a fill can take 2 weeks to take affect . Also says is you can't eat 3 oz of solid protein than the fill is too much. A lot of people on here keep their bands WAY to tight; and then post they've are having complications. Do yourself a favor and see to this on Monday. This is so important to my doctors' office they say call we WILL fit you in that day. You can easily become dehydrated.

    5Th Week Post Op

My doctor never told me to eat by counting calories. Instead to measure out 3 oz of protein and then eat low fat/cal veggies (mostly) and then even some fruit. I don't eat white carbs (or crackers, rice cakes). I do put about 1/3 cup High Protein Kashi Go Lean into my breakfast greek yogurt. For those with the most trouble at night (welcome to the club) try having more protein at dinner (4 oz instead of 3). Hopefully you'll be more full by the time you get to the veggies etc.
  17. Is the band more work then some other surgeries? Yes. My experience is that I have to put a lot of effort into this process. Some people get the band and then don't want to put forth any effort. I would do some soul searching and decide whether you are willing to make significant changes to your eating habits: baked chicken instead of fried, low fat veggies instead of fries; and setting exercise goals (I work out 7 days a week). I don't mind eating healty and after 4 years of exercising daily (I had started before banding) I actually LIKE exercising. I'm not trying to be a downer. Some bandsters loose weight much faster than I; and some of them even eat unhealthy food and don't exercise. I am very happy with my decision to be banded.

    Tired Of Hearing About Failures...

I think when you have more to loose your weight loss is more dramatic post op. When I was pre op my doctor wanted me to go on a 500 calories liquid diet. His main selling point was that I could loose a pound a day. He planned on me being on this diet for several months! So I would'nt let your friend worry you for now. However, expect that your weight loss will slow down! My doctor said post op that you could loose 1-2 pounds per week. I've been slower than that.
  20. I do think mixed tuna could be slider like. Personally not a mayo fan (never have been). I have mixed tuna with low fat laughing cow cheese. Since it's cheese you can also heat it in the microwave. Instead of using bread or crackers try a romaine lettuce leaf as a "wrap".
  21. Having a support group is great. Developing a new relationship with food is required to be succesful with the band. The band will never stop you from eating a shake from McDonalds or a Snicker bar. I have heard that some leaders at WW are anti band. Sooooo you might want to think about whether to tell them about the band.

    Food Porpotiions

My doctor says 3 oz of solid protein plus low fat/cal veggies. Sounds to me like yoiu need to eat the protein first and then veggies until satisfied. Digital food scales can be found at Target/Walmart.

    Scared To Eat Solids

I was not told to eat eggs until week 4 or 5. I started out with really thin yoghurt. I took Greek Yogurt and used Milk to thin it out. Other Mushie options are low/no fat cottage or ricotta cheese.
