  1. I want back and did treadmill starting day 4, and did that for 7 days, 3 days on the elliptical and then back to lap swimming at day 15 postop. I had been swimming before surgery so it was'nt a shock to my system.

    Pre-Surgery Freakout!!

Who tells someone they might die in surgery? First think of who is saying this to you. Are they really concerned about your health? Or are they concerned that fatest person they know will end of being much thinner then they are? Even thin people look at others and say "As long as I am thinner than So And So I'm fine." If somone they think of as fat looses enough weight to match them it causes them emotional trauma. And who wants trauma?

Normal To Eat More Than 4Oz?

Original poster, for Breakfast I have a serving of Greek Yogurt (Chobani fruited) with the following add ins: 1/2 scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder, flavorless benefiber, Splendra, some walnuts, 1/3 cup high protein Kashi Go Lean. about 300-350 cal. but about 30 g of protein. As mentioned by previous posters you need to up your protein and lower the carb intake.

    Anemia

I forgot to mention make sure to wait an hour after taking the Iron before taking calcium suppliments. The iron conteracts the calcium and your body can't absorb it correctly.
  5. Looking at your profile I don't think you will loose a lot of weight without exercise. You would need to really reduce calories alot to get a 3500 calorie deficet required to loose one pound. And if you have a really low calorie intake will you get enough Protein. Lack of protein will lead to the body burning Lean Muscle which should be read as Heart Muscle. Long before being banded my desk at work got moved FAR AWAY from the cafe. Because my knee hurt so bad I started to bring lunch because I didn't want to walk to the Cafe. I lost about 20 pounds just from changing my eating habits. I was however about 380 pounds; I don't see that happening for someone at your weight.
  6. 40 and wished I had done it sooner

    Band Vs Diet

Prior to the band I lost and regained 100 pounds three times in my life. I am an EXCELLENT dieter. I have INCREDIBLE will power. I was always an all or nothing dieter. The problem with that is eventually you get tired of eating super low fat/cal food and I mean super. While I am very conservative in what I eat on a daily basis. When I do have a special occation or a holiday I now feel like the band will help me eat less. Bye the time I've eaten my Protein and veggies I only have a small amount of room for dessert. Here's a depressing statistic. Only 5% of the people who do not have WLS who loose significant amounts of weight (say 100 pounds) keep the weight off long term

    Sweet Tooth

I don't keep anything in my house too much of a temptation. My doctor says if you eat it every day for a week you've created a food habit; that you will eat everyday at that time whether you are hungry or not. Unlike some doctors however mine does not have a problem with plain fruit so I do have one for lunch and dinner. One thing I do on occation is go to costco and have a sample or two. They only give you half a bite so it's not like you're getting a large serving. Helps me with cravings.

    You Are What You Eat!!!!

If so I am a very large chicken eating 0% Greek yogurt.
  10. Regarding pricing here in the Greater Boston, MA area their prices are lower than our regular grocery stores. Sad but true.
  11. I did not get restriction until 10.6 cc's. This will be a will power diet. I wish more doctors were clear about that. Buy a digital scale and measure out 3 oz of solid protein (or whatever your doctor wants) and then eat low fat/cal veggies until full. You probably really aren't more hungry now than you were. Head hunger is a powerful thing.

    Hospital Stay..how Long???

My surgery got delayed after I got to the hospital. It started at like 4:30 and took like 1.5 hours. I stayed overnight and was discharged by 12:00. My doctor said if I got a "blood Pool" at the port site I would have to stay longer (I had been on blood thinners before surgery). I did not and as I said went home the next day.

    Anemia

I was diagnosed with mild anemia post op and have been taking OTC 65 mg. I would highly recommend taking Vitafusion Gummy Fiber to help keep you regular. I also add unflavored Benefiber powder to my Greek yogurt. A lot of Bandster have constipation issues so make sure to get in a lot of fiber.
  14. Also, are you doing any exercise? My doctor said I should be walking as much as possible post op. At two weeks I was allowed to go back to swimming (which I had done before surgery).
  15. Can you tell us what kind of full liquids? A low fat/cal tomato soup is better for you than a cream of chicken. Also are you measuring out 8 oz? I had to use the coffee cups from my dish set because my coffee mugs held twice that amount. How many cals are in the protein shakes. The protein powder I used was 120, made with fat free milk about 80 so 200 cals. Some protein shakes esp the premade have significantly more. I really like Premier Brand Ready to Drink from Costco 30 g of protein for 160 cals.
  16. It's kind of odd that they are telling you will have the consult and won't be back until surgery. I had a longer journey because of a preexisting blood clot. However, in general here are my doctors requirements: consult (Nurse Practitioner, Psychologist, Nutritionist), first meeting with surgeon (did not met him at the consult), second meeting with surgeon, 3 group sessions with a psychologist specializing in eating disorders, Meeting with Anesthesiologist, training session on "diet" for immediatley post op and the food progression for the next 5 weeks (and then basically for ever). I also had to provide results from that years Mamogram, and Pap Smear. I highly recommend going to Youtube and watching some real surgeries. Not at all gross. They use a cauterizing tool so there is no blood. Really shows you why doctors want you too 1) lose weight presurgery 2) reduce the fat in the liver. They just flip the liver out of the way to get to the stomach.

    Thanksgiving Dinner

Just a question. Does your doctor consider yogurt the same as creamy soup? I could have creamy soup at day 8 but it was another week before I could have yogurt. Also I thinned out the Greek yogurt at that point with fat free milk because it is really thick.

    No Weight Loss

It does'nt sound to me like you need another fill. Some people have trouble with bread (the only bread I can't eat is cheap white bread). I do however have chicken twice a day. Also the fact that you have to drink your calories is normally a sign that you are too tight. Are you eating too fast? Are the bites to large. I would guess that your lack of weight loss is due to drinking calories.
  19. Are you truely on solids? You mentioned smoothies and Soup. I would'nt call those solids. Fills do not intrinsically cause problems. The issue is when people keep their bands so tight they can't eat solids. Did your doctor leave some fill in the band during surgery. Some do that so it's a while before someone needs an additional fill.
  20. Long after surgery, Burger King started selling soft serve ice cream. I am not a big ice cream eater which makes this all the weirder. I started to have dreams where I was gorging myself on soft serve! So odd.
  21. I think the most difficult part of telling lots of people is that the lap band is not a quick fix. The research says you can loose up to 2 pounds a week but some of us are more like 1/4-1/2 pound a week. I eat very conservatively and exercise up to 2 hours a day; so I am certainly putting in the work. Most people only know bypass so they expect you will loose weight much faster. So you could be loosing at a reasonable rate but people may comment that you are'nt loosing fast enough. This is a life marathon not a sprint.
