Laney, why can't you eat veggies? You need veggies to live. Veggie carbs are a different animal than candy carbs. I use hummus to eat raw carrots. I found I needed to buy individual servings however becase I would eat to much of it otherwise.

Can Not Getting Enough Protein In Diet, Lead To No Weight Loss??
honk replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ready to drink shakes tend to taste better. Just read the label so you are not getting to many cals. Premier and Muscle Milk light are pretty good. NOT regular Muscle Milk it has tooo many cals. -
Anyone Drink Ensure "high Protein" During Their Liquid Diet?
honk replied to Lola Granola's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ensure high protein is 230 cals for 12 g of protein which seems high to me. Muscle Milk Light or Premier brand Ready to drink have much better numbers. Yes Premier you have to buy at Costco but I find the membership price worth it. I buy Premier post op for fills and for my prework out snack (I have a long time between lunch and dinner (sometimes 8-9 hours). Also great soups for post op and fills, great ready made roasted chicken (large size and 4 bucks cheaper than the grocery store), great prices on walnuts, berries and fruit. -
Dietician And Nurse Appointment This Thursday- Advise/info
honk replied to swollen2swanky's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Each doctor has their own requirements. While my insurance did not require a 6 month pre op diet my doctor required that I loose 10% body weight. So if you have to loose a set amount that can delay your surgery. I would be brutaly honest with the Nut. they know your food habits. I discovered that while I chose low/non fat crackers and chips etc that I was just eating way to many of them. We all know portion control. However I idea of what a single serving is, is usually really wrong. At my first meeting I said "I'm the healthiest eating fat person I know!" And I was eating pretty healthy I just was eating enough for two people. -

Just Did Something Stupid...advice Please
honk replied to magicfanpjc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think you hurt anyting. I do however congratulate you on feeling bad for not following the rules. I was moved to mushies at week 3 so you should be fine. One bit of warning. After I was healed I took to eating honey roasted Peanut Butter by the spoonful because I figured it was Protein right? Huge food problem for me. Peanut butter is full off sugar which is why I was enjoying it so much. When I noticed the peanut butter jars piling up in my recycling I realized I had to stop. My advice would be to try PB2 which is defatted peanut powder that you mix with Water. It can be used for a lot of things and is great in Protein shakes. Shipping is a flat rate so it's better to buy several jars and store it. Comes in plain and chocolate flavor. http://store.bellplantation.com/PB2-Powdered-Peanut-Butter-s/3.htm -
Pain On My Left Side Chest
honk replied to Regina J.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please stop eating solids! At day 8 I was just moving to full liquids. Solids was another 4 weeks out. You can do serious damage to you stomach eating solids at this stage. Yes I am being pointed and direct. Significantly less pointed or direct however than my nurse practioner however who can be a bit of a dictator. -
6 Month Supervised Diet - Frustrated And Annoyed!
honk replied to Scooterbug's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Were you weighed at each office. I know my PCP and LapBand Surgeon's scale are off by several pounds. One, I've reached a point in my life where I don't put up with bullying by anyone. Two, bring a letter from your PCP saying you've lost 11 pounds since January. What kind of pissing match are they playing at? When I innocently asked my doctor if he required patients to do a liquid preop diet he said "Oh you want to go on a liquid diet?" Well not exactly, that's not what I said. He ordered for me to go on HMR a liquid diet that was 500 cals a day and that had to be bought from the hospital. I bought 200 dollars worth and ended up not being able to drink it because it made the back of my throat numb (which for my brother is a sign of food allergies so I was'nt taking any chances.) So that could be their idea of drastic measures. Personally I did'nt loose any weight on that 500 diet (my doctor said I would loose a pound a day). I was also doing an hour of moderate cardio daily. -
First Experience Lap Band Prejudice And Ignorance From Nurse
honk replied to Fishes1971's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Totally unprofessional. I would definately write directly or speak with whoever is the top manager for the clinic. The idea that a medical professional would look down on a patient for dealing with a medical problem is beyond the pale. -
How much Biotin are you taking. I use 5,000 mg. I know if comes in 1,000. I would take a higher dose for now. My hair loss has gone back to normal levels not sure if the Biotin is the cause but I'm not going to stop taking it to find out.

Recovery Period Weight Loss/gain?
honk replied to MissManda85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always gain at TOM. I would reduce your calories perhaps to 1200. Are you measuring out your protein? My doctor says 3 oz solid protein. -
Are you weighing your protein? My doctor says 3 oz of solid protein per meal. Eat the protein and then low fat/veggies until full. Your biggest issue looks like food choices. Junk food is high in calories. I have food trigger. I can't keep even low fat chips, cracker, sweet children's cereal in my house I will eat them mindlessly. What are you food habits. Are you eating out of habit vs. being hungry? Perhaps you need to set a timer that you can't hvae another meal until five hours has passed from your last meal.

Huge difference! While some on here get surgery at my weight (216), being this weight is a hugggge victory for me. I started out about 380. At my heaviest no one ever opened the door for me and did not go out of the way to hold it open either. Now 99% of the men open/hold the door for me. Some rush ahead to get to the door before me. I got layed off in 2009 and I'm sure I got choosen because I was fat. My boss hated fat people.

Questions Prior To First Fill
honk replied to Catfish2012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people do not get restriction from their first fill. I had this fantasy I would! Not so much. You should be able to drink a glass a water after your fill with no problems. Most doctors say to do full liquids for 24 hours and mushies for anotehr 24. It can take up to 2 weeks for a fill to take effect. Once your doctor moves you back to solids if you can not eat 3 oz of solid protein you are too tight. Do not be afraid to ask your doctor for a small unfil say .1-.2 CCs -
So others know for single incision you have to be lower BMI. I asked and was told not at your weight 282

Omg....cant Lse The Pr-Op Weight!
honk replied to hopeo71's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure to give your body time to flush out any liquids before your weigh in. IE don't drink a large coffee right before you walk in. That will add 2 pounds Water weight easy. -
Hi. I don't normally start new topics but I wanted to get this out there. I've read several posts that people are using the Boost high Protein as their pre-op diet. While at the store yesterday I saw it and took a closer look. My recommendation is to stop drinking this stuff!!! If you read posts from a lot of experienced bandsters we highly recommend the Premier Protein shakes (ready to drink). Below are a comparison of some important Nutritional facts. Boost High Protein Ready To Drink 8 oz 15 g of protein Total Carbs 33g Sugars 27 Cals 240 Fat 6 Premier Protein shakes 11 oz 30 g of Protein Total Carbs 5g Sugars 1 Cals 160 Fat 3 Your doctor has you on a high protein/low carbs diet to force your body to burn protein and then fat. The Carb levels in Boost are out of this world. I'm sure they taste great but no surprise look at the sugars level. Yes I know Premier is at costco and BJ's (and possibly online) but there are other RTD shakes available at walmart, and health food store that are better than Boost. Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.

Two Lovers, Trying To Meet, But Something Stands In The Way...
honk replied to SashaWLS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Brandi, Hello. It's sounds to me like your band is too tight. What are you eating for Protein? No eggs, or chicken? My doctor says if I can't eat 3 oz of solid protein I am too tight. I eat chicken twice a day every day. I am at restriction so I can't understand why you have some many foods you can't eat. Does your doctor know you can't eat these things? Having a too tight band will eventually lead to you fallin back on high calorie soft foods or liquids. The band is not meant to stop you from eating solid foods. On the contrary it works best with solids. They keep you full the longest. -
Hiw Much Can The Doctor Fill You In One Session?
honk replied to lsj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with former poster the doctor probably has a plan. Since they started out with 2 CC's I doubt they will give you 5 now. Most give larger fills at first and slow down over time. That said I did'nt start to get restriction until 10 CC's in a 11 Band. For now are you weighing out your Protein? Otherwise you will eat much more than you should. -
How Much Longer Do I Wait?
honk replied to Princess Jaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was approved in like a week. The big question is whether your doctor asked you to loose any weight. My doctor wanted me to loose 10% body weight. So that can affect how quickly you have surgery. -
Question About Starting Solids
honk replied to Shannon28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I would stay away from wraps; empty carbs and high calories. Look at the package probably 100-200 cals for one. I use romaine lettuce leaves as a wrap for sandwiches. -
Tomato or sweet red pepper soup is quite nice. I added Mrs. Dash salt free seasonings (Baked Chicken Flavor is great) to the soup before heating which gave the soup added flavor.

Don't know if I have great answer for you. First question when did you return to swimming? My doctor said to wait two weeks. I do agree about using one of the Water proof bandages; ask the pharmacist. I thing they are kept out back. As to hunger. What stage are you at soft mushies or full mushies? Starting day 15 I could have thin Greek yogurt and smooth Soup like tomato. At day 23 I could have cottage/ricotta cheese and smooth soup. I would space out my food to help with the head hunger. So 8 oz soup first, wait as long as I could and then have the yogurt. If I ate everything at once it seemed like an eternity before I got to eat again. My doctor does not believe in Snacks. Do you have a digitial food scale? If not get one. It is the only way to know exactly how much food you are getting. My doctor never said to eat by volume (ie cups) but to weight my food.

My port scar about 3 inches is so thin I can hardly see if compared to my stretch marks. I have a gallbladder scar that is over 22 years old and it is much darker. Different surgeons I guess have different abilities. My other 4 scars are so little it's hard to really complain about them. They look like a small bug bite.
