Protein Shakes after Surgery
honk replied to bar2373's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your logic is flawed. You haven't lost weight thus you need more shakes. Shakes are not special. The band is meant to work with solid food esp. Protein. My doctor says if I can't get my protein (solid) in I'm too tight. Most doctors say if you rely on liquids you will gain weight since they tend to be higher in cals. -
By keeping the lights on I mean your basic metabolism: breathing, energy to run your organs. Your body is a marvel of engineering and machines need fuel.
-
Is this cals burned "keeping" the lights on + exercise? If so that's pretty normal. I burn around 2200 a day. 1800 metabolism and at least 400 from exercise.

When you to move to canned chicken/tuna low fat laughing cow cheese is a great substitute for mayo. -

Cottage cheese, ricotta and smooth spaghetti sauce heated in microwave were HEAVENLY at that point. -

I did not but they were not on my approved list until day 15. Couldn't hurt. -
Day 6 first lesson learned!

Strickly my opinion but you are very soon from surgery to have very full feeling after eating. Personally I would either measure your Protein or step back from mushies like canned meat. I would try Greek yogurt, cottage or ricotta cheese. Many on here were on Clear liquids for 7 days then full liquids for another 7. Personally I would eat more servings of soft mushies rather than fewer servings of firmer mushies. Again just my opinion. -

Are you weighing your protein? My doctor says 3 oz. I understand you are following orders. How many days post op are you. I was not allowed mushies until day 15 and that was yogurt. Canned meat not until day 21. Everyones body is different so even if your doctor okayed canned meat your body may not be ready. -
To me the band is forever. I could always loose weight. I lost 100 lbs 3 times in my life only to regain. I'm 43 and pre and post op have lost about 170 lbs. I do have another 50 to go but I don't have hanging skin.

Normally you would do weights 3 days a week, with rest day between workouts. My doctor wants at least 30 minutes cardio 7 days a week.

I recommend using romaine lettuce leaves as a wrap. Even at restriction crackers will be a slider. Also they will be salty and you will need a drink.
-
I don't really crave anything. I occationally miss salty crunchy carbs like crackers. Those are a trigger food for me do I don't keep them in my house.

Took 10.6 in a 11 cc band.

Doubts - & Wednesdays the Day!
honk replied to Redesigned_Curves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 43 bmi you are on the low end. RE shakes what are the stats cals, fat, carbs? Not all shakes are created equal. I would stay below 230 cals for min 25 g protein, no more 4 grams fat, carbs. -
Doubts - & Wednesdays the Day!
honk replied to Redesigned_Curves's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did a 500 cal shake only diet with 1 hr cardio for 5 days lost nothing! Went back to my own diet lost 50 pounds in 6 months. -
It can take two weeks to fill to take effect. If post period you can't eat 3 oz solid protein by lunch you are too tight. Remember .1-.2 cc can make all the difference.
-
Well do you want an honest answer? While I can controlled it; I'm definitely more gassy.
-
I get a very mild version of that occationally. Not really unpleasant just there. Clearly not stuck though.

Im so hungry and surgery is on Feb 7
honk replied to honorablebeauty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would eat more of the foods you are allowed rather than foods you are not. broth has like 10 cals so even 10 a day is only 100 cals. -
I went to not your average joes for their bread because I heard I would not be able to eat bread after surgery. I split dinner so I didn't overeat. I can eat bread so that was kind of pointless. You'll be able to eat most things once healed; you'll just want to eat fattening things on rare occation.

Trust me food will be there after surgery. A lot of people put on the site how they can never again eat pasta or chicken or even bread. The only thing I have trouble with is Raw baby carrots and cheap white bread.

Does your doctor require meeting with an eating disorder therapist? I thought the appointments would be a huge waste of time and boy was I wrong. Do to other health issues my surgery was delayed for 7 months. I used that time to really get it in a good place mentally and develop new eating habits. It's easy to see surgery as the finish line. In reality this is the start of the rest of your life. You should use this 6 months to develop new eating habits and exercise habits. Trust me I know how hard that wait can be. I was about 6 days from surgery when it ended up being delayed for 4 months.

Somewhat off topic I went to meet with an oncologist this week who had a medical student working with her. I was very impressed with how much the head oncologist knew about banding. As she explained how the band worked to the medical student.

9 Days Post Op - Hungry and Can Eat Much More than 2-3ozs?
honk replied to Nate A Erickson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand your doctor moves quicker than most through the post op diet plan. To which you should be thankful because my doctor required 1 week of Clear liquids and then 1 week of full liquids such as tomato Soup. As mentioned above just because you can eat normal portions doesn't mean that you should. Since your band is empty there's nothing stopping you from eating like you did before surgery at this point. The band is just sitting there around the outside of the stomach doing nothing. Think of the pouch the doctor created as a funnel. The larger the hole in the funnel the quicker the Fluid you're putting in it flows through. Right now you're eating and everything you eat just goes from the pouch into the bottom of the stomach. The bottom of the stomach will hold a lot of food. By the end of my first week yes I was still hungry after 8 ounces of Protein shake and 8 ounces of broth. Those were my allowed foods for each meal. It's also important to remember there's a difference between volume and weight. If your doctor created a pouch that holds two ounces that means by weight not by volume. As I've seen on here a lot it seems like your doctor did not give you much Education on the band. Many people come out of surgery thinking that immediately they're going to start eating like a bird. And that's just not reality. Please keep in mind I'm not trying to be mean spirited. For now this is a Willpower diet. And while there's lots of opinions on what that means personally I think you need to cut out cheese balls and french fries. If your doctor is letting you have mushies and solids then you need to buy a food scale and start weighing out your protein. My doctor's says 3 ounces. -
2days post op and feeling full?
honk replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well your doctor moves pretty fast. I was on clears for 7 days and full liquids for another 7. And not oatmeal until day 22.
